San Mateo Logo Design

Every new San Mateo venture knows they need a logo, but few new business owners fully are aware of the key role their logo can take in their financial success, or precisely why one business logo functions more effectively than another. A logo has an instant and long-term influence on the growth of a company, go with the correct one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, go with the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the life span of an organization. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help San Mateo businesses prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t demand consideration, they can be realized in just a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable business logo will be legible and just as emotive at virtually any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a company logo needs to be timeless and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.

Retro logo design of a bicycle developed for a San Mateo coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and cafe were actually opening up in an older part of the area and wished to cast a nostalgic atmosphere without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I accomplished both of these tasks by means of creating a business logo design that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo design with a microscope slide and bacteria created for San Mateo medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that analyzes the root causes and effects of diseases, especially the branch of healthcare which deals with the laboratory examination of samplings of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is really the only instance I call to mind in which I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Normally I attempt not to be overly literal with a design and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it serves rather literally, but it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more interesting, more focus grabbing and a lot more meaningful.

logo style with a jumping eco-friendly frog created for a household fun center in San Mateo.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental professionals, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the business has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to feature a couple of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better lively high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a group of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, and a tree - made for San Mateo travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche profession due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to capture places or things but instead communicate emotional experiences through the images they capture. The idea behind this logo design was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of most good photographers in that they oftentimes share entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be revealed with just words. I made an effort to do something similar to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  San Mateo logo but also to reveal the depth in her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

San Mateo logo design with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design projects that I take on I truly savor and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A however the client, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man really hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family did not share his hatred for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I urge all of them to discuss it with colleagues and family as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get unbiased viewpoints on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his whole family and they really loved the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Business logos are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire a professional to create their business logo recognize how crucial a logo design is for their company so they are way more invested in the final result. Every logo job possesses it’s allotment of challenges, however the largest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo in the background, design for San Mateo publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin piece of real estate to work with, yet it is the most critical part of a published book because it is ordinarily the primary thing a person sees in the bookstore. Regarding a publisher, it’s the best opportunity they will ever get to spotlight their label and get their logo design in front of the people that buy actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo designed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with the bars changed to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart but it seems that in many occurrences 1 of the aspects people tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller start-up commuter/shuttle airline company located in LA and although I’m not certain it really “took off” their logo design didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to imparting a feeling of airline flight and it was definitely a success.

San Mateo logo design utilized for advertising and marketing as well as a label design for Vintage Situation features an archaic font style design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for music instruments, which seemed to be vintage cases. For this logo design I tried to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid vintage feel to it and could be utilized for anything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different point in time.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in San Mateo, design consist of an arc with lines intersecting through it to suggest metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can be one of the most challenging logo jobs considering that it appears that every dentist features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business marketing, if dining establishments approached their branding in the same way dental offices do every one of their logos would be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would most likely include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I actually love doing dentist business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this particular design over to the client the only smile that was evident was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo created for a household nonprofit, the logo design features 4 personalities staggered in height to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the people in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be very literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design which communicated that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to explain precisely how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If people have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that explains itself won’t have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo style produced for a hair style workshop including a script font a hummingbird and an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo design that projected a feeling of serenity and class for their new hair salon. I created a concept which did not go the obvious route of crafting simply a stylized orchid but instead crafted a business logo which implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the logo design using the figure of a hummingbird floating above the image itself. The obvious path in designing a logo is oftentimes the wrong path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the emphasis on the perception that they wanted to forecast to their patrons.

Arabian steed logo style created for an equine ranch that concentrates on reproducing Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Las Coffee shop logo layout a tiny dining establishment, style contains a changed script font style which hovers above a group of luxuriant lines as well as dots.

Logo layout for a software application designer the design functions and also iconic aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and disk managing. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that serves as a bridge in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it represented something to the owner of the business and in quite a few cases the symbolism behind a business logo is equally as important as how it serves the organization it represents.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This San Mateo logo design job was carried out for a leadership specialist that aids business professionals to become more efficient at handling people, expectations, and profitability.

A logo layout including a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly knew the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting store that functions as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a place to sell their pre-owned products to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their San Mateo logo design dsign utilizing an image which garners the interest of vehicles and projects an image that arouses the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.
Logo layout MQ ranches, this logo design has actually an area integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem design wasn’t really developed for an San Mateo regional farm it was in reality devised for a commodities broker, and this logo was one of several which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was really to develop an identity that projected self-confidence, success, and luxury.
Logo created for the use of an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font that is reminiscent of a renowned sports group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed loads of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking in which I worked closely with the business owner to create a business logo which worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
