TIPS FOR IDENTIFYING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo design is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design company presents a money back guarantee try to remember that they simply cannot reimburse the amount of time you invest which is much more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some design firms talk a good game but in the end a design agency can only be determined from the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their portfolio does not feature real life examples odds are they will not be able to deliver a premium logo design.

VISION

A logo’s goal is to be recognized and be unforgettable, and it’s objective is to reflect your unique vision for your business. If a designer is not focused on realizing your vision, the thing they are really focused on is how soon they can get paid.

Bessemer LOGO DESIGN

For over 20 years ImageCo has been helping start ups and entrepreneurs develop unforgettable brands. We have performed brand design work for builders, educational institutions, diamond miners, wedding singers, diners, retailers, and just about every other kind of business concern you can envision. What makes ImageCo unique compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every brand identity project as if it will be utilized as an electric sign. Because of our sign first approach our brand identity designs can, and have been used in everything from garment labels to neon signs. Our sign first approach insures that our logo designs are just as reliable whether they are used in television commercials or web headers, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and always remembered no matter of scale or application.

American Made ★ Design

Something that truly sets ImageCo apart from other design companies that you may have encountered on-line, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are brought on board to do, we perform ourselves. No matter the kind of project we take on, logo, business website, trade show exhibition, or commercial sign, we do not, and never will job-out our client’s work to contractors located outside the US. Whenever you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that answers the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a middleman that increases the cost of your design project and imposes the terms of how we do business.

QUALITIES OF AN EFFECTIVE LOGO DESIGN

It’s likely that every new Bessemer entrepreneur knows they require a logo, however few new business owners fully understand the crucial role their logo design can perform in their financial success, or the reason that one logo works more effectively than another. A logo design has an instant and sustaining influence on the prosperity of a business, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, go with the wrong one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of a company. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Bessemer companies prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not require scrutiny, they can be understood in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from clothing labels to posters a scalable logo design will remain legible and equally emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the item or company they brand.
  5. Relevance: a logo needs to be ageless and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from today.

understanding branding

Brand – It is a verb and also a noun, it’s an identifying mark as well as the act of marking something to ensure that it could be distinguished, its origin comes from the mark branded onto animals. These days a brand signifies practically anything with an objective, whether it be earnings or politics, a brand is an inherent aspect of defining the value of a specific thing in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like advertising and marketing’s attractive cousin, they are both from the exact same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity contest aimed at a target market, it’s goal is to produce an image that the audience will connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated through advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When someone says the brand names Porsche or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can transport us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, elegance, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and that is what makes people want those brands. Brand image is why individuals purchase specific brands, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can identify with.

Branding Firms – If you look back at the origin of the majority of branding agencies you’ll discover that they are often re-branded advertising and marketing firms. When a person says they are in advertising many people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or listened to are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a designer that specializes in a type of visual design that helps shape the perception of a company, a product or a company. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, signage designs, product packaging, and collateral products such as cards, stationery, and also brochures. Some identity designers also design websites and software interfaces. The essential function of a brand identity designer is to establish the visual cues as well as an emotional tone with the objective of influencing activities, results and perceptions.

select signs/logos

Retro logo layout of a bicycle created for a Bessemer coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffee bar were actually launching in an old part of the city and wanted to cast an old-fashioned tone without coming across as monotonous or low energy. I achieved the two tasks via creating a business logo design that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo design with a microscope slide and germs designed for Bessemer medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which researches the causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare which deals with the laboratory evaluation of samplings of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I recall in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Typically I try not to be overly literal with a concept and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents fairly literally, yet it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more captivating, more interest grabbing and more memorable.

logo layout with a leaping green frog made for a family members fun center in Bessemer.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental professionals, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the title of the company has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to integrate a few springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a much more enthusiastic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they utilized for marketing and advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I designed was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo design including a group of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, and also a tree - designed for Bessemer traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche area because travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but rather reveal emotional experiences by means of the photos they capture. The thought behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is representative of almost all good photographers in that they frequently share whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be revealed with mere words. I made an effort to do something the same to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Bessemer logo design but also to show the depth of her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Bessemer logo design with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of custom logo design projects that I take on I really enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however my client, even though he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular guy genuinely disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members didn’t share his hatred for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage all of them to discuss it with colleagues and family as well as with people that they don’t even know so as to get unbiased judgements on the value of a design. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family and they really liked the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Logos are a weird creature in the design world because the people that tend to hire an expert to design their logo understand how vital a logo is for their company so they are much more invested in the end result. Every logo design job has it’s portion of difficulties, but the largest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, layout for Bessemer book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin slice of real estate to work with, however it is the most critical part of a published book since it is usually the first thing a person views in the book shop. Concerning a publisher, it’s the opportunity that they will ever get to advertise their brand and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches modified to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go yet it seems that in many instances one of the traits consumers often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small start-up commuter/shuttle airline located in LA and while I’m not certain it actually “took off” their logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to imparting a good sense of flight and it was surely a winner.

Bessemer logo style used for marketing as well as a tag design for Vintage Case features an old font style layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for music instruments, that appeared to be much older cases. For this logo design I strove to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be used for everything from a website to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another era.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Bessemer, style consist of an arc with lines intersecting with it to suggest steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental business logos can easily be one of the most difficult logo jobs considering that it seems that every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business marketing, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the exact same way dentists do every one of their logos would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would likely include an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I really enjoy doing dentistry logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and ultimately I created a layout that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this particular design over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a family not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 personalities staggered in height to stand for a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be depictive of the devotion that William McNally had for the residents in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be overly literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wishes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design that communicated that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to explain precisely how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If people have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that describes itself won’t have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo layout developed for a Bessemer hair style workshop including a script font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design that conveyed a feeling of serenity and connection for their new hair salon. I came up with a concept that didn’t go the obvious course of making just a stylized orchid but instead crafted a business logo which implied a flower in the formation of a swirl incorporated in to the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the logo design using the figure of a hummingbird hovering above the logo itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is generally the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead put the focus on the feeling that they really wanted to project to their clients.

Arabian steed logo layout developed for an equine cattle ranch that concentrates on reproducing Arabian program steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo created a one-of-a-kind business logo design customized to embody the unique physical traits of the Arabian breed of horses. By having a different head shape and higher tail posture, the Arabian is one of the very most easily recognizable horse breeds in the world.

Las Cafe, A Bessemer Coffee shop logo design a small restaurant, layout contains a changed script font which hovers over a group of luxuriant lines as well as dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo style a little restaurant, style contains a modified script font style which floats above a team of luxuriant lines as well as dots.

Logo design for a software programmer the layout attributes as well as iconic Bessemer aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive management. The kernel connects the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a bridge between the software program and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it intimated something to the owner of the company and in quite a few cases the substance supporting a logo design is just as important as how it serves the enterprise it stands for.

Develop logo layout created for a Bessemerindoor designer, design feature a collection of red circles that intersect and replace the letter O in the center of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Bessemer interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is somebody who prepares, researches, coordinates, and manages such ventures. Interior design is a multifaceted occupation that includes conceptual development, space planning, location inspections, programming, investigation, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction management, and implementation of the design.

logo layout provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Bessemer, the personalities for letter V and also A in middle of the word progressed have been changed to tie straight into words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Bessemer logo design assignment was completed for a management expert that helps business leaders to become more successful at handling people, expectations, and productivity.

A Bessemer business logo layout featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the owners of On the Fly recognized the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a location to market their used goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I created their Bessemer logo design along with an image that grabs the attention of vehicles and projects an image that wakens the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.

Logo style MQ farms, this Bessemer company logo layout has a field included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem design wasn’t actually designed for an Bessemer area farm it was actually created for a commodities broker, and this particular company logo was one of several that fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to design a graphic that projects self-confidence, success, and opulence.

Bessemer Logo design for a not-for-profit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo style attribute for outwardly encountering arrow and also the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design that they would like, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the opportunity to discover any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye in the absence of recognizing where the target is. Luckily, in this case, I struck a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo design made for using an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript typeface that is similar to a famous Bessemer sporting activities team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed loads of restaurant custom logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the US, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great undertaking in which I worked directly with the proprietor to produce a logo design that worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
