TIPS ON SELECTING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A business logo is an investment in both your time and your money so whenever a design firm offers a money back guarantee try to remember that they can’t reimburse the time you invest which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some designers talk a good game but ultimately a design agency can only be judged by the quality of their design work, if the work in their design portfolio does not feature real life samples chances are they won’t be able to deliver a premium logo design.

VISION

A logo’s objective is to be understood and be unforgettable, and it’s objective is to echo your unique vision for your company. If a logo designer isn’t focused on actualizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how fast they can get paid.

Hercules LOGO DESIGN

For over twenty years ImageCo has been helping small business owners establish unforgettable brand identities. We’ve done logo design work for farmers, schools, heart surgeons, wedding singers, diners, retail stores, and just about every other kind of business you can think of. What makes ImageCo unique compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every logo design project as if it will be utilized as an electrical sign. As a result of our sign first approach our identity designs can, and have been utilized in everything from clothing labels to billboards. Our sign first method insures that our logos are equally reliable whether they are used in television commercials or web apps, they are consistently recognizable, understood, and remembered irrespective of scale or use.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference which truly sets ImageCo apart from many of the design agencies that you might possibly have found online, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every design project we are hired to perform, we do ourselves. No matter the type of project we undertake, brand identity design, business website, trade show booth, or commercial sign, we do not, and never will contract out our customer’s projects to companies located outside the US. Whenever you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that picks up the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that marks up the price of your project and imposes the conditions of how my customers and I do business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A POWERFUL LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new Hercules entrepreneur understands that they probably need a logo, yet few new business owners fully recognize the vital role their logo will make in their financial success, or the reason that one logo performs more effectively than another. A logo design has a critical and long-term effect on the success of a business, pick the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, choose the wrong one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of an organization. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Hercules businesses prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t need deliberation, they can be grasped in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from label to retail signs a scalable logo design will be legible and just as emotive at any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the product or organization they brand.
  5. Relevance: a business logo needs to be lasting and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from today.

understand your brand

Brand – It is both a verb and a noun, it is an identifying mark and also the act of denoting something to make sure that it could be recognized, its foundation comes from the brand branded onto animals. These days a brand indicates practically anything with an objective, regardless if it be profit or government agencies, a brand is an inherent aspect of specifying the value of something in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like advertising and marketing’s attractive sister, they are both from the same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing have to do with making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest directed at a target audience, it’s objective is to produce a mental image that the target market will likely connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated by advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When a person states the names Lamborghini or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a vehicle with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and that is what makes individuals buy those products. Brand image is why individuals identify with most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Companies – If you reflect on the beginning of a lot of branding agencies you’ll find that they are often rebranded marketing firms. When someone claims they are in advertising most people will likely have an idea about what they do. However when a person claims “I’m in branding”… it just sounds much more attractive, perhaps it’s since lots of people don’t understand what it implies to be in branding so it comes off as mysterious and kind of sexy.

Brand Identity – Is a comprehensive term that defines the visual components of a product or company that influence perceptions. This mainly includes the name, the logo design, the packaging, the colors utilized but can also include audio, lighting, texture, signage, really anything that can be seen, touched or heard are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a type of visual design which helps form the public image of a firm, a product or a business. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, sign designs, packaging, and collateral material such as cards, stationery, and also sales brochures. Some identity designers also design sites and also user interfaces. The crucial role of a brand identity designer is to establish the visual cues as well as an emotional tone with the goal of affecting actions, outcomes and also understandings.

select logos & signs

Retro logo style of a bike produced for a Hercules coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually opening up in an old section of town and wanted to visualize an old-fashioned atmosphere without appearing as boring or low energy. I achieved each of the tasks via creating a trademark concept that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide and also germs created for Hercules medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that researches the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare which deals with the clinical examination of samples of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the only instance I remember in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Generally I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it serves quite literally, however it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that makes it more captivating, more attention grabbing and more meaningful.

logo style with a leaping eco-friendly frog created for a family members enjoyable facility in Hercules.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the sorts of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental professionals, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the company has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to integrate a some springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not really reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a much more lively high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they utilized for advertising and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo design featuring a group of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, as well as a tree - created for Hercules travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector due to the fact that travel photographers don’t capture places or things but rather project emotional journeys through the photos they capture. The idea behind this logo concept was to utilize negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of the majority of good photographers in that they oftentimes convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be conveyed with mere words. I attempted to do something very similar to this logo by using the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Hercules logo but also to show the depth of her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Hercules logo layout with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design jobs that I take on I really savor and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the character A however the client, while he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This guy truly loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his friends and family did not share his contempt for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage them to talk about it with friends and family as well as with people that they don’t even know so as to get neutral viewpoints on the merit of a design concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his whole family and they adored the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a weird creature in the design world because the people that tend to hire a professional to design their logo recognize how important a logo design is for their company so they are much more vested in the final result. Every logo project possesses it’s portion of challenges, but the biggest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo in the background, design for Hercules publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow piece of real estate to work with, however it really is the most crucial part of a printed book given that it is often the initial thing a person views in the book shop. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will likely ever get to publicize their label and get their logo design in front of the people that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches changed to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go nevertheless it seems that in many occurrences one of the aspects folks often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest fledgling commuter/shuttle airline company located in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their logo design didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a sense of flight and it was certainly a victory.

Hercules logo layout made use of for advertising and also a label design for Vintage Situation includes an archaic font style design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in all new cases for music instruments, that seemed to be older cases. For this logo design I sought to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid vintage feel to it and could be used for anything from a web site to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another era.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Hercules, style consist of an arc with lines intersecting with it to suggest steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can be one of the most difficult logo jobs due to the fact that it seems that every single dentist incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business marketing, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dental professionals do every one of their company logos would be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care profession.

I really enjoy doing dentist logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a design that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a household nonprofit, the logo includes 4 personalities startled in height to represent a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be depictive of the devotion that William McNally had for the residents in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be very literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization hopes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design which communicated that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The objective of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to describe how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If you have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo that describes itself will never have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo style produced for a Hercules hair design workshop featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo that conveyed a feeling of calmness and elegance for their new hair studio. I created a design that did not go the obvious route of crafting simply a stylized orchid but rather designed a logo design which suggested a flower in the formation of a swirl incorporated into the letter O in the name and by placing emphasis on the concept using the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a business logo is generally the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the main focus on the emotion that they really wanted to project to their clients.

Arabian steed logo style developed for an equine cattle ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo crafted an original company logo concept tailored to epitomize the unique physical traits of the Arabian breed of equines. With a distinctive head form and higher tail posture, the Arabian is one of the highly immediately recognizable horse lineages in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Hercules Coffee shop logo layout a small restaurant, design includes a customized manuscript font style which hovers above a group of luxuriant lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo layout a small restaurant, layout consists of a modified script font style which hovers over a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Logo style for a software application developer the layout attributes and also legendary Hercules element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and disk management. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a bridge in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it represented something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the significance behind a logo is equally as important as how it brands the organization it stands for.

Develop logo design produced for a Herculesindoor developer, design attribute a collection of red circles that converge and change the letter O in the middle of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Hercules interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is someone who plans, investigates, collaborates, and manages such tasks. Interior design is a multifaceted occupation that includes conceptual development, space planning, location inspections, programming, analysis, interacting with the stakeholders of a project, construction supervision, and execution of the design.

logo design done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Hercules, the personalities for letter V and also A in center of words progressed have been modified to connect straight into words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Hercules logo design assignment was undertaken for a management coach that enables business leaders to develop into more effective at overseeing people, expectations, and productivity.

A Hercules business logo design featuring an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly understood the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a location to market their pre-owned products to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Hercules logo design design using an illustration that grabs the attention of vehicles and projects an image that evokes the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.

Logo style MQ ranches, this Hercules company logo layout has actually an area incorporated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms logo concept wasn’t actually designed for an Hercules regional farm it was really designed for an investments broker, and this particular business logo was one of multiple which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was really to generate a brand mark that projected self-assurance, success, and luxury.

Hercules Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo design function for outwardly dealing with arrowhead and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design they preferred, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the freedom to investigate any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye in the absence of recognizing where the target is. Fortunately, in this particular instance, I struck a bullseye with the first go.

Logo designed for the use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script typeface that is reminiscent of a popular Hercules sports group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created quite a lot of restaurant logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking in which I worked directly with the business owner to create a business logo which worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
