STRATEGIES FOR FINDING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design firm offers a money back guarantee try to remember that they simply cannot refund the amount of time you invest which is much more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many designers talk a good game but in the end a design firm can only be evaluated from the quality of their design work, if the work in their portfolio does not contain real world examples odds are they will never be able to produce a premium logo design.

VISION

A logo’s aim is to be understood and be unforgettable, and it’s goal is to echo your unique vision for your company. If a logo designer is not focused on fulfilling your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how soon they can get paid.

La Mesa LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping entrepreneurs develop notable brand identities. We have done brand design work for builders, universities, diamond miners, party planners, restaurants, retail stores, and virtually every other kind of business you can think of. What makes ImageCo unique compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every logo design project as though it will be utilized as an electrical sign. Because of our sign first strategy our designs can, and have been used in everything from garment labels to electrical signs. Our sign first approach ensures that our logos are equally successful whether they are used in television commercials or web headers, they are consistently identifiable, comprehended, and always remembered irrespective of scale or application.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference that really sets ImageCo apart from many of the design companies that you probably have stumbled upon in Google’s search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are enlisted to do, we perform in-house. No matter the kind of project we accept, business logo, web page, trade show booth, or electrical sign, we do not, and never will farm out our client’s projects to companies based outside the USA. When you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that marks up the price of your project and determines the terms of how you and I conduct business.

QUALITIES OF A GOOD LOGO DESIGN

Virtually every new La Mesa organization knows they need a logo, yet few start-ups thoroughly realize the key role their logo design will play in their becoming successful, or exactly why one logo design functions far better than another. A company logo has an instant and long term influence on the viability of a company, pick the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the wrong one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the longevity of an organization. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help La Mesa businesses prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t need consideration, they can be grasped in just a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable business logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at every size.
  3. Versatility: logos which work on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the item or business they brand.
  5. Relevance: a logo should be enduring and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It’s a verb and also a noun, it’s an identifying mark and the process of marking something so that it can be identified, its foundation comes from the mark branded onto livestock. Nowadays a brand symbolizes basically anything with an objective, whether it be profit or political parties, a brand is an innate aspect of defining the value of something in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s sexy sister, they are each from the same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing have to do with making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest directed at a specific audience, it’s goal is to develop an image that the audience will likely relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated by advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When someone states the names Ferrari or Corvette what we think of is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a vehicle with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, elegance, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and that is what makes individuals want those brands. Brand image is why people buy most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Companies – If you reflect on the history of most branding firms you’ll find that they are quite often rebranded advertising agencies. When somebody says they are in advertising and marketing many people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or listened to belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that focuses on a kind of visual design that helps form the perception of a company, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, sign designs, packaging, and also collateral products such as business cards, stationery, and sales brochures. Some identity designers also design web sites as well as software interfaces. The necessary duty of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues and an emotional tone with the goal of affecting activities, end results as well as assumptions.

select logos & signs

Retro logo layout of a bike created for a La Mesa coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee bar were opening up in an older section of the city and wanted to project a retro tone without coming across as boring or low energy. I achieved both tasks by designing a logo concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo design with a microscopic lense slide and bacteria developed for La Mesa clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which investigates the root causes and outcomes of diseases, especially the branch of medicine that works with the laboratory assessment of specimens of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the only instance I call to mind in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be extremely literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it represents quite literally, however it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that helps make it more captivating, more interest grabbing and much more unforgettable.

logo design with a leaping green frog developed for a family fun center in La Mesa.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dental practices, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the name of the company has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to include a couple of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not really reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more lively high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they utilized for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo design including a flock of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, and a tree - created for La Mesa traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector because travel photographers don’t shoot places or things but instead communicate emotional experiences through the pictures they record. The thought behind this logo concept was to utilize negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they oftentimes convey entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be communicated with mere words. I made an effort to do something similar to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  La Mesa logo design but also to reveal the depth of her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

La Mesa logo layout with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of logo design jobs that I take on I seriously savor and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A however the client, while he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy genuinely hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members did not share his contempt for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I urge them to talk about it with colleagues and family members as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get impartial point of views on the worthiness of a design concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family members and they really loved the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logos are a weird animal in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire an expert to design their logo recognize how important a logo is for their company so they are way more invested in the final result. Every logo project possesses it’s share of obstacles, however the biggest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, style for La Mesa book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin piece of real estate to work with, however it really is the most crucial part of a printed book due to the fact that it is usually the primary thing a person sees in the bookstore. Concerning a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity they will likely ever have to spotlight their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches customized to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go yet it looks like that in many instances one of the aspects individuals often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller startup commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and while I’m not sure it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to conferring a feeling of airline flight and it was undoubtedly a winner.

La Mesa logo design used for advertising and marketing and a label style for Vintage Instance includes an old-fashioned typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand-new cases for music instruments, that looked to be older cases. For this custom logo concept I tried to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid retro feel to it and could easily be utilized for anything from a website to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another generation.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in La Mesa, style include an arc with lines converging through it to imply metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logos can be one of the most challenging logo design projects because it seems that each and every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental business logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to company advertising, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dental offices do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I actually love doing dental care logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and ultimately I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a household not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 characters surprised in elevation to stand for a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be far too literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wishes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo design that communicated that they were about families without being overtly tacky about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to illustrate exactly how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If people have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo that illustrates itself won’t have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo style developed for a La Mesa hair layout studio featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a company logo that communicated a sense of tranquility and class for their new hair salon. I came up with a design which did not go the obvious path of crafting just a stylized orchid but rather crafted a business logo which implied a flower in the formation of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the logo design using the figure of a hummingbird floating over the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a business logo is oftentimes the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately put the attention on the perception that they wanted to transmit to their customers.

Arabian equine logo design created for an equine cattle ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo created a one-of-a-kind organization logo concept tailored to illustrate the unique physical traits of the Arabian type of horses. By having a different head shape and higher tail posture, the Arabian is one of the very most easily recognizable horse lineages in the whole world.

Las Cafe, A La Mesa Coffee shop logo style a small restaurant, design consists of a modified script font which floats over a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo layout a tiny dining establishment, layout consists of a customized script font which hovers above a team of elaborate lines and also dots.

Logo style for a software designer the layout attributes as well as iconic La Mesa element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and disk managing. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a bridge between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it symbolized something to the owner of the company and in quite a few cases the symbolism supporting a logo is just as important as how it serves the company it represents.

Develop logo style developed for a La Mesainterior developer, style function a series of red circles that intersect and also replace the letter O in the middle of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a La Mesa interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is somebody who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such tasks. Interior design is a multifaceted occupation that consists of conceptual development, space planning, location examinations, programming, analysis, corresponding with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction supervision, and implementation of the design.

logo layout provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in La Mesa, the characters for letter V and also A in middle of words advanced have been changed to connect straight right into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular La Mesa logo design job was completed for a leadership guide that enables business professionals to develop into more successful at supervising people, expectations, and productivity.

A La Mesa business logo design featuring a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly knew the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a place to sell off their pre-owned equipment to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their La Mesa logo design design utilizing a graphic that garners the interest of traffic and sends an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo layout MQ ranches, this La Mesa company logo layout has actually an area included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo design wasn’t really designed for an La Mesa area farm it was really developed for an investments broker, and this logo was one of multiple that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was actually to develop an identity that projected trust, success, and affluence.

La Mesa Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo style feature for outwardly dealing with arrowhead as well as the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what kind of logo design they would like, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the flexibility to discover any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye in the absence of recognizing where exactly the target is. Luckily, in this instance, I struck a bullseye with the 1st shot.

Logo design designed for the use of a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript typeface that is reminiscent of a renowned La Mesa sports group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have crafted dozens of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the US, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked closely with the owner to develop a logo design which worked very well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
