Laguna Beach, California Logo Design

Nearly every new Laguna Beach business knows they need a logo, but few entrepreneurs thoroughly recognize the crucial role their logo can play in their success, or exactly why one logo design performs far better than another. A logo has an instant and lasting influence on the prosperity of a company, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the wrong one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of a company.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Laguna Beach, California companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 traits in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not demand contemplation, they can be understood in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from labels to signboards a scalable logo design will remain legible and equally emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo must be timeless and should feel as relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.
Retro logo layout of a bicycle developed for a Laguna Beach, California coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually opening up in an old part of the community and wanted to project a nostalgic tone without appearing as monotonous or low energy. I fulfilled both of these tasks via developing a company logo concept that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide and germs made for Laguna Beach, California medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which researches the triggers and consequences of diseases, especially the branch of healthcare that deals with the clinical assessment of samplings of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the sole instance I remember in which I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Normally I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it serves rather literally, but it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more captivating, more interest grabbing and even more meaningful.

logo style with a jumping environment-friendly frog created for a family members fun center in Laguna Beach, California.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of jobs that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental offices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the name of the business has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to feature a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better lively high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I created was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

photography logo including a group of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, and also a tree - made for Laguna Beach, California travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche profession because travel photographers tend not to shoot places or things but rather project emotional journeys by means of the photos they capture. The thought behind this logo concept was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they frequently share entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be revealed with just words. I attempted to do something similar to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Laguna Beach logo design but also to illustrate the depth in her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Laguna Beach logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I honestly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the letter A however my customer, even though he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular guy really disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his friends and family did not share his hatred for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I urge all of them to share it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get honest judgements on the worthiness of a design concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they adored the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a weird creature in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire a professional to design their business logo understand how crucial a logo design is for their business so they are much more invested in the final result. Every logo design job has it’s allotment of hurdles, but the biggest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, style for Laguna Beach, California book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin parcel of real estate to work with, yet it is the most crucial part of a printed book due to the fact that it is usually the first thing a person views in the book shop. With respect to a publisher, it’s the absolute best opportunity they will likely ever get to spotlight their label and get their logo design in front of the people that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart however it looks like that in many instances one of the aspects people often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest new venture commuter/shuttle air service located in LA and although I’m not certain it actually “took off” their custom logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to conferring a spirit of flight and it was definitely a winner.

Laguna Beach logo design made use of for advertising as well as a tag design for Vintage Case includes an archaic typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for musical instruments, that appeared to be older cases. For this brand concept I sought to come up with a logo that offered a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could be utilized for every thing from a web site to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another point in time.

Logo developed for an orthodontist in Laguna Beach, California, design include an arc with lines intersecting through it to indicate metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can be one of the most difficult logo jobs because it seems that almost every dentist includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business marketing, if dining establishments approached their branding in the exact same way dental practitioners do every one of their company logos would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would likely include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I actually love doing dental business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a concept that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 personalities staggered in height to stand for a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the people residing in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be far too literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution hopes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a logo which conveyed that they were about families without being overtly tacky about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to explain precisely how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If you have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo design that illustrates itself will never have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo design created for a hair style workshop including a script font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design which carried an atmosphere of contentment and class for their new hair salon. I created a design that did not go the obvious direction of designing merely a stylized orchid but instead crafted a business logo that implied a flower in the formation of a swirl featured into the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the logo design using the figure of a hummingbird floating over the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a business logo is usually the wrong path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the attention on the perception that they really wanted to transmit to their patrons.

Logo layout for a software application programmer the layout functions and also famous component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and hard drive management. The kernel unites the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a bridge between the software and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it symbolized something to the owner of the business and in quite a few cases the substance supporting a logo is just as important as how it serves the organization it stands for.

A logo layout featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly understood the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a spot to sell off their previously owned goods to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Laguna Beach business logo dsign utilizing a graphic which grabs the attention of traffic and sends an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.

Laguna Beach Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo design attribute for ostensibly encountering arrowhead and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design that they would like, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the freedom to discover any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye in the absence of understanding where exactly the target is. Fortunately, in this case, I struck a bullseye with the 1st shot.

Logo design created for using an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font style that is similar to a popular sports group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted dozens of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking where I worked directly with the owner to produce a logo design that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
