Laguna Beach Logo Design

Every new Laguna Beach venture understands that they need a logo, but few new business owners entirely recognize the essential role their company logo can play in their success, or exactly why one logo design works more effectively than another. A company logo has a critical and long-term influence on the growth of a company, pick the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of a business. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Laguna Beach companies succeed, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these five features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not require deliberation, they can be understood in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable business logo will be legible and just as emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the company they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a business logo must be timeless and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from today.

Retro logo design of a bike developed for a Laguna Beach coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and bistro were actually opening up in an old part of the community and wanted to project a vintage feel without coming across as boring or low energy. I accomplished both tasks via creating a sign concept that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide and also germs created for Laguna Beach medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which researches the root causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare that works with the laboratory evaluation of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the sole instance I recall in which I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Generally I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents rather literally, yet it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more captivating, more attention grabbing and much more meaningful.

logo layout with a jumping green frog created for a family members fun facility in Laguna Beach.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental experts, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the title of the business has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to incorporate a handful of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better dynamic high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they used for advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Laguna Beach traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche area because travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but rather communicate emotional journeys by means of the images they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to make use of negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of the majority of professional photographers in that they oftentimes tell whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be conveyed with mere words. I attempted to do something the same to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Laguna Beach logo design but also to illustrate the depth of her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Laguna Beach logo design with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of custom logo design projects that I take on I genuinely enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A however the customer, while he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular guy seriously despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family didn’t share his scorn for this particular kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I urge all of them to talk about it with friends and family as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get unprejudiced assessments on the worthiness of a design. Fortunately, he talked about it with his whole family and they really loved the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logos are a weird animal in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire a professional to design their logo design understand how important a logo is for their organization so they are way more invested in the final result. Every logo job possesses it’s share of challenges, however the biggest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for Laguna Beach book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender segment of real estate to work with, yet it is the most essential part of a published book since it is ordinarily the first thing a person sees in the bookstore. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the absolute best opportunity they will ever have to promote their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that buy actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches changed to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go however it seems that in many occurrences one of the things folks usually tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small start-up commuter/shuttle air service located in LA and although I’m not sure it actually “took off” their business logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to imparting a spirit of flight and it was surely a winner.

Laguna Beach logo style made use of for advertising and marketing as well as a tag design for Vintage Situation includes an old font design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for musical instruments, that appeared to be much older cases. For this logo design I sought to come up with a logo that had a fluid retro feel to it and could be used for everything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different era.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Laguna Beach, layout consist of an arc with lines intersecting through it to suggest steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logo designs can easily be one of the most challenging logo design jobs due to the fact that it seems that every single dentist incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dental practices do every one of their logos would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I actually love doing dental logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular design over to the client the only smile that was obvious was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a family nonprofit, the logo design features 4 personalities staggered in elevation to represent a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the people in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be far too literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wishes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo which communicated that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The objective of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to summarize exactly how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If viewers have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo that explains itself won’t have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo design developed for a hair layout workshop including a script font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo design that conveyed a feeling of simplicity and class for their new hair salon. I came up with a design that didn’t go the obvious route of making simply a stylized orchid but rather delivered a company logo that suggested an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the title and by placing attention on the logo design with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering above the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is more often than not the incorrect path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead put the attention on the feeling that they wanted to project to their patrons.

Arabian steed logo design created for a steed cattle ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian show steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Logo design for a software designer the design features as well as iconic component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and disk operations. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection in between the software and computer hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it represented something to the business owner of the business and in quite a few cases the meaning behind a company logo is just as important as how it serves the business it represents.

A logo design including an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly knew the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a spot to sell off their pre-owned equipment to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Laguna Beach business logo dsign utilizing an image that pulls in the interest of vehicles and sends an image that wakens the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.
Logo design MQ ranches, this logo layout has an area included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms logo design wasn’t actually developed for an Laguna Beach area farm it was actually developed for a commodities broker, and this particular brand was one of many that fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to design a graphic that projects esteem, success, and prosperity.
Logo design made for making use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant script font that is evocative a famous sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed quite a lot of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked closely with the owner to design a logo design that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
