TIPS FOR IDENTIFYING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo design is an investment in both your time and your money so anytime a design company offers a money back guarantee try to remember that they can not refund the time you commit which is much more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many designers talk a good game but inevitably a designer can only be determined from the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their portfolio doesn’t feature actual examples odds are they will never be able to deliver a quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s goal is to be understood and be unforgettable, and it’s goal is to mirror your personal vision for your company. If a designer isn’t focused on realizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how soon they can get paid.

Merced LOGO DESIGN

For over 2 decades ImageCo has been helping entrepreneurs develop unforgettable brands. We’ve undertaken brand design work for farmers, colleges, heart surgeons, wedding singers, restaurants, retailers, and just about every other kind of business you can think of. What makes ImageCo unique compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every design as though it will be used as an electrical sign. Because of our sign first method our brand identity designs can, and have been utilized in everything from clothing labels to neon signs. Our sign first technique guarantees that our logo designs are just as successful whether they are used in TV commercials or website apps, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and remembered irrespective of scale or purpose.

American Made ★ Design

The thing that seriously sets ImageCo apart from other design agencies that you may have stumbled upon online, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every design project we are contracted to do, we do in-house. Irrespective of the kind of design project we take on, logo, business website, trade show banners, or electrical sign, we do not, and never will job out our client’s work to agencies based outside the United States. When you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that picks up the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that increases the cost of your design project and dictates the conditions of how my customers and I do business.

QUALITIES OF A GOOD LOGO DESIGN

Every new Merced organization understands that they need a logo, however few start ups thoroughly recognize the key role their business logo will perform in their financial success, or precisely why one logo performs far better than another. A logo has a critical and long term impact on the prosperity of a business, go with the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, choose the incorrect one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of a business. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Merced companies succeed, they are effective in any given situation and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not require contemplation, they can be comprehended in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from label to store signs a scalable logo will stay legible and just as emotive at any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos which function on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the item or business they brand.
  5. Relevance: a logo needs to be ageless and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is a verb and a noun, it is an identifying mark and the act of denoting something to ensure that it could be identified, its origin comes from the mark branded onto animals. Nowadays a brand signifies basically anything with an objective, whether it be revenue or political parties, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of defining the worth of a specific thing in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s sexy sister, they are both from the exact same family, the difference being that marketing and advertising have to do with making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity competition directed at a specific audience, it’s goal is to produce an image that the target market will relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured through advertising and marketing and identity design. When somebody states the names Porsche or Mustang what we think of is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and brand image is what makes individuals buy those products. Brand image is why people buy specific brands, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can relate to.

Branding Agencies – If you reflect on the origin of the majority of branding agencies you’ll find that they are quite often re-branded marketing and advertising agencies. When a person claims they are in marketing the majority of people will likely have a preconceived notion about what they do. But when a person states “I am in branding”… it just seems much more attractive, probably it’s because most people do not know what it indicates to be in branding so it comes off as more mysterious and even sexy.

Brand Identity – Is a comprehensive term that defines the visual elements of a product or agency that affect understandings. This mainly includes the name, the logo, the product packaging, the different colors utilized yet can also consist of sound, lighting, texture, signage, just about anything that can be seen, touched or listened to belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a designer that concentrates on a kind of visual design that helps form the perception of a firm, a product or an organization. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, packaging, and also collateral material such as cards, stationery, and sales brochures. Some visual designers also develop web sites and also user interfaces. The essential role of a brand identity designer is to establish the visual cues and also a psychological tone with the objective of influencing actions, end results as well as perceptions.

Featured signs/logos

Retro logo layout of a bike created for a Merced coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffee shop were actually opening up in an old part of the area and wished to project a retro feel without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I fulfilled each of the jobs by creating a company logo concept that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide and also germs made for Merced clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which analyzes the causes and consequences of diseases, especially the field of medicine which deals with the clinical assessment of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the only instance I call to mind in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be overly literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, yet it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more appealing, more attention grabbing and a lot more unforgettable.

logo design with a jumping green frog made for a family fun facility in Merced.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dentists, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the business has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to integrate a couple of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more lively high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for advertising and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I came up with was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a group of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, and also a tree - developed for Merced travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche area due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to capture locations or things but instead project emotional experiences through the pictures they capture. The thought behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of almost all professional photographers in that they frequently convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be communicated with mere words. I tried to do something comparable to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Merced logo design but also to reveal the depth of her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Merced logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design jobs that I take on I really relish and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however the customer, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular man really hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family did not share his contempt for this specific variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge them to talk about it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with people that they don’t even know so as to get objective assessments on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family and they really loved the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to design their business logo recognize how vital a logo is for their company so they are way more vested in the result. Every logo design project has it’s share of hurdles, but the greatest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, design for Merced book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow segment of real estate to work with, however it really is the most important part of a printed book due to the fact that it is usually the initial thing a person sees in the bookstore. With regard to a publisher, it’s the best opportunity they will likely ever get to spotlight their product and get their logo design in front of the people that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with the bars modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go yet it looks like that in many occurrences 1 of the items consumers usually tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest start-up commuter/shuttle airline company located in LA and although I’m not certain it actually “took off” their logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to affording a good sense of air travel and it was undoubtedly a winner.

Merced logo layout utilized for marketing and also a label design for Vintage Situation includes an archaic typeface layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand new cases for music instruments, which looked to be much older cases. For this brand design I strove to come up with a logo that provided a fluid vintage feel to it and could be utilized for anything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different generation.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Merced, layout consist of an arc with lines converging with it to imply metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry business logos can be one of the most challenging logo projects because it seems that virtually every dentist incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to company branding, if restaurants approached their branding in the very same way dental offices do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would probably have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I actually love doing dentist logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and subsequently I created a layout that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the client the only smile that was obvious was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo features 4 personalities startled in elevation to represent a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be illustrative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people residing in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be very literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution wishes to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a unique opportunity to do a logo that communicated that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The objective of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to explain exactly how people should think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If people have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that explains itself will never have the opportunity to be understood.

Logo style created for a Merced hair design workshop including a script font a hummingbird and also a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a logo which related a sense of peace and elegance for their new hair salon. I came up with a concept that did not go the obvious route of making just a stylized orchid but alternatively delivered a business logo which suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by putting attention on the logo design using the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is frequently the wrong route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead laid the attention on the perception that they really wanted to forecast to their patrons.

Arabian equine logo style produced for a steed ranch that focuses on reproducing Arabian program horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo crafted a distinct creative logo design fashioned to exemplify the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of equines. By having an identifiable head form and high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the highly easily recognizable equine breeds in the world.

Las Cafe, A Merced Coffee shop logo design a tiny restaurant, style consists of a customized script typeface which floats above a team of elaborate lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo style a tiny dining establishment, layout includes a customized script typeface which floats over a team of elaborate lines and also dots.

Logo design for a software application developer the layout attributes and iconic Merced aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and disk management. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that serves as a bridge between the software program and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it meant something to the owner of the company and in many cases the meaning supporting a logo design is equally as important as how it serves the business it represents.

Evolve logo design produced for a Mercedindoor developer, layout function a collection of red circles that intersect and replace the letter O in the center of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Merced interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is a person who prepares, explores, collaborates, and oversees such tasks. Interior design is a diverse occupation that consists of conceptual development, area planning, location examinations, programming, investigation, interacting with the stakeholders of a project, construction supervision, and execution of the design.

logo style provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Merced, the characters for letter V as well as A in middle of the word advanced have been customized to connect straight into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Merced logo design job was performed for a leadership coach that enables business leaders to develop into more effective at handling people, expectations, and profitability.

A Merced business logo style including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly knew the market was ready for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a location to market their used equipment to other sports enthusiasts.

I created their Merced logo design design utilizing an image which garners the interest of traffic and projects an image that arouses the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo design MQ farms, this Merced company logo layout has a field incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms business logo concept wasn’t actually developed for an Merced area farm it was actually developed for an investments broker, and this particular logo was one of many that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was really to make an identity that projected self-assurance, success, and affluence.

Merced Logo design for a not-for-profit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo design function for externally facing arrow and also the arrowheads indicate that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what kind of logo design that they preferred, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the flexibility to explore any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye without realizing where exactly the target is. Thankfully, in this case, I struck a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo made for using a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript typeface that is evocative a popular Merced sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted loads of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked closely with the owner to produce a logo which worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
