STRATEGIES FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A business logo is an investment in both your time and your money so anytime a design company presents a money back guarantee try to keep in mind that they can not refund the time you invest which is eminently more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many design firms talk a good game but inevitably a designer can only be determined from the quality of their design work, if the work in their design portfolio does not feature actual examples chances are they won’t be able to produce a quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s objective is to be recognized and remembered, and it’s objective is to mirror your unique vision for your business. If a logo designer isn’t focused on actualizing your vision, the thing they are really focused on is how quickly they can get paid.

Monterey LOGO DESIGN

For over 20 years ImageCo has been helping start ups and entrepreneurs develop notable brands. We have undertaken logo design work for farmers, educational institutions, heart surgeons, wedding singers, restaurants, retailers, and practically every other kind of business concern you can think of. What makes us unique compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every branding project as if it will be used as an electrical sign. As a result of our sign first technique our designs can, and have been used in everything from garment labels to billboards. Our sign first technique insures that our logo designs are just as reliable whether they are used in TV commercials or website apps, they are consistently recognizable, comprehended, and remembered no matter of size or function.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference that seriously sets ImageCo apart from other design agencies that you might possibly have stumbled upon in Google’s search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are brought on board to perform, we do ourselves. No matter the type of project we accept, brand identity design, website design, trade show booth, or electric sign, we do not, and never will job-out our customer’s work to agencies based outside the USA. Whenever you phone us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that increases the price of your design project and determines the terms of how you and I do business.

QUALITIES OF A GOOD LOGO DESIGN

It’s likely that every new Monterey entrepreneur realizes that they need a logo, but few start-ups fully recognize the crucial role their logo will play in their success, or the reason that one logo works more effectively than another. A logo has a critical and sustaining effect on the prosperity of a company, choose the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it will be an obstacle and a hindrance for the longevity of a company. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Monterey businesses prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not require scrutiny, they can be comprehended in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from label to store signs a scalable logo will stay legible and just as emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the product or organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design should be ageless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s a verb and a noun, it’s an identifying mark and the act of noting something to make sure that it could be distinguished, its genesis comes from the brand burned onto livestock. These days a brand symbolizes pretty much anything with an objective, regardless if it be revenue or political parties, a brand is an inherent aspect of defining the value of something in the consumer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s sexy cousin, they are both from the same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest targeted at a target audience, it’s objective is to produce a mental image that the target market can relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured through advertising and marketing and identity design. When a person says the brand names Ferrari or Corvette what we think about is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can deliver us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and that is what makes individuals purchase those brands. Brand image is why individuals identify with specific brands, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can identify with.

Branding Companies – If you look back at the history of the majority of branding agencies you’ll find that they are often rebranded marketing and advertising companies. When a person claims they are in advertising the majority of people will likely have a preconceived notion about what they do. But when someone says “I am in branding”… it simply sounds much more attractive, possibly it’s because lots of people don’t fully understand what it suggests to be in branding so it comes off as mysterious and sexy.

Brand Identity – Is a comprehensive term that describes the visual elements of a product or agency that affect view points. This mostly consists of the name, the logo, the packaging, the colors used however can additionally consist of audio, illumination, texture, signs, just about anything that can be seen, touched or listened to are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that focuses on a type of visual design that helps shape the image of a company, a product or an organization. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, sign designs, packaging, as well as collateral material such as business cards, stationery, as well as sales brochures. Some identity designers also build sites and software interfaces. The essential role of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues and a psychological tone with the objective of affecting actions, outcomes and perceptions.

Featured logos & signs

Retro logo layout of a bike developed for a Monterey coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually opening up in an old part of the city and wished to visualize an old-fashioned vibe without coming across as boring or low energy. I fulfilled the two tasks by means of designing a logo design that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a enduring business image.

medical logo layout with a microscope slide as well as bacteria designed for Monterey clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which investigates the causes and consequences of diseases, especially the branch of healthcare which works with the clinical assessment of samples of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the only instance I recall where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Usually I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents fairly literally, yet it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that makes it more intriguing, more focus grabbing and more unforgettable.

logo layout with a jumping eco-friendly frog designed for a family members fun facility in Monterey.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of projects which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental experts, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to incorporate a some springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a better dynamic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for advertising and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I came up with was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

photography logo including a flock of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, as well as a tree - developed for Monterey traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche speciality because travel photographers tend not to capture places or things but instead convey emotional experiences through the pictures they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to make use of negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of almost all professional photographers in that they oftentimes tell entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be communicated with mere words. I made an effort to do something much the same to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Monterey logo but also to show the depth of her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Monterey logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of logo design projects that I take on I really enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I certainly felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the letter A however the customer, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man really loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family did not share his aversion for this specific kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge them to discuss it with colleagues and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t even know so as to get unprejudiced point of views on the worthiness of a concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they loved the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logo designs are a strange creature in the design world because the people that tend to hire a professional to design their logo comprehend how important a logo design is for their organization so they are way more vested in the result. Every logo design job has it’s portion of challenges, however the biggest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo in the background, design for Monterey publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow segment of real estate to work with, however it really is the most crucial part of a published book due to the fact that it is in most cases the very first thing a person views in the book store. With respect to a publisher, it’s the opportunity they will likely ever have to spotlight their brand and get their logo design in front of the men and women that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with benches changed to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart however it seems like that in many instances one of the things people often tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small startup commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not certain it actually “took off” their logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a sense of airline flight and it was definitely a winner.

Monterey logo style used for advertising as well as a tag design for Vintage Situation features an archaic typeface layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand new cases for music instruments, which appeared to be vintage cases. For this custom logo concept I sought to come up with a logo that had a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could be utilized for everything from a web site to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another generation.

Logo developed for an orthodontist in Monterey, design include an arc with lines converging with it to indicate steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can easily be one of the most difficult logo design projects because it appears that almost every dentist incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business marketing, if restaurants approached their advertising in the same way dentists do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would most likely include an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding an illustration of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really love doing dentistry logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a specific field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a layout that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was obvious was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a family nonprofit, the logo features 4 personalities surprised in elevation to represent a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the people in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization hopes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo design which communicated that they were about families without being overtly tacky about it. The aim of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to summarize precisely how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If people have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo design that illustrates itself won’t have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo design created for a Monterey hair style workshop including a script font a hummingbird as well as a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo that communicated a spirit of relaxation and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a design which didn’t go the obvious direction of crafting just a stylized orchid but instead delivered a logo which suggested a flower in the pattern of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by placing attention on the concept using the figure of a hummingbird hovering above the image itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is generally the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the importance on the perception that they wanted to transmit to their customers.

Arabian steed logo layout developed for a steed cattle ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo crafted an original company logo concept fashioned to display the unique physical traits of the Arabian kind of horses. With a distinctive head form and very high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the most easily recognizable equine breeds in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Monterey Coffee shop logo style a tiny dining establishment, style contains a modified script font style which floats above a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo style a tiny dining establishment, layout contains a customized script typeface which hovers above a team of ornate lines as well as dots.

Logo layout for a software designer the layout attributes and also renowned Monterey element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and drive management. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection between the software program and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it intimated something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the significance behind a logo is just as important as how it serves the company it stands for.

Advance logo layout created for a Montereyinterior developer, design function a series of red circles that converge and change the letter O in the middle of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Monterey interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is somebody who arranges, explores, collaborates, and manages such projects. logo layout provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Monterey, the personalities for letter V and A in center of the word advanced have actually been changed to tie directly into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Monterey logo design job was carried out for a management consultant that helps business professionals to develop into more effective at supervising people, expectations, and productivity.

A Monterey business logo layout including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly understood the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a location to market their secondhand items to other sports enthusiasts.

I created their Monterey logo design design utilizing a graphic that garners the interest of traffic and projects an image that evokes the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.

Logo style MQ farms, this Monterey company logo design has an area incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem idea wasn’t actually created for an Monterey area farm it was actually designed for an investments broker, and this particular logo design was one of many that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was actually to design a brand mark that projects self-assurance, success, and wealth.

Monterey Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo style feature for externally facing arrow and the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what type of logo design that they would like, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the flexibility to investigate any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye without understanding where exactly the target is. Fortunately, in this particular case, I hit a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo developed for making use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font style that is evocative a renowned Monterey sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created loads of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project where I worked directly with the proprietor to produce a business logo which worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
