Novato, California Logo Design

Every new Novato company realizes that they require a logo, but few new business owners entirely realize the crucial role their company logo will perform in their success, or the reason that one logo functions more effectively than another. A company logo has an instant and sustaining influence on the success of a company, go with the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the wrong one and it will be a barrier and an impediment for the life of a company.

The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Novato, California businesses succeed, they are effective in any given situation and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not demand contemplation, they can be understood in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo design will stay legible and equally emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the enterprise they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design must be ageless and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.

Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo design of a bicycle produced for a Novato, California coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee shop were launching in an older part of the community and hoped to cast an old-fashioned atmosphere without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I fulfilled each of the tasks via developing a trademark concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a timeless business image.

clinical logo design with a microscope slide and germs made for Novato, California clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which examines the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of medicine that works with the clinical evaluation of samples of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the only instance I call to mind in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Usually I try not to be excessively literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it serves very literally, but it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that makes it more intriguing, more interest grabbing and much more meaningful.

logo style with a jumping green frog created for a family enjoyable center in Novato, California.

Cool Springs | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the kinds of jobs that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental experts, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the business has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to incorporate a few springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a much more lively high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they utilized for marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a flock of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - made for Novato, California travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather niche field of photography and I think it is a niche field due to the fact that travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but rather project emotional experiences through the pictures they record. The thought behind this logo concept was to make use of negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of most good photographers in that they oftentimes convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be revealed with mere words. I tried to do something similar to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Novato logo design but also to show the depth to her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Novato logo layout with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design jobs that I take on I really enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A however my customer, while he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This guy really despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family members did not share his aversion for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I urge all of them to discuss it with colleagues and family members as well as with people that they don’t even know so as to get impartial viewpoints on the merit of a design. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family members and they adored the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logos are a strange creature in the design world because the people that have a tendency to hire a professional to create their logo design recognize how crucial a logo is for their business so they are way more invested in the end result. Every logo project has it’s share of obstacles, but the greatest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Novato, California publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped piece of real estate to work with, but it really is the most necessary part of a printed book since it is often the primary thing a person sees in the book store. Concerning a publishing company, it’s the most ideal opportunity that they will likely ever get to promote their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that buy actual books.

This three color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches modified to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go yet it seems like that in many occurrences 1 of the aspects folks tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young fledgling commuter/shuttle airline company situated in LA and while I’m not sure it actually “took off” their business logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a good sense of flight and it was certainly a winner.

Novato logo design utilized for advertising and marketing and also a label layout for Vintage Case includes an old font design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in new cases for music instruments, that appeared to be antique cases. For this custom logo concept I attempted to come up with a logo that provided a fluid retro feel to it and could easily be utilized for everything from a website to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from another point in time.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Novato, California, style include an arc with lines converging via it to imply metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care business logos can easily be one of the most challenging and difficult logo jobs considering that it appears that virtually every dental professional features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to business branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the exact same way dental professionals do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding an image of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I actually enjoy doing dental logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a concept that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this concept over to the client the only smile that was evident was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design created for a family members nonprofit, the logo design includes 4 characters surprised in elevation to represent a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be illustrative of the devotion that William McNally had for the folks in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution wants to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo design that communicated that they were about families without being overtly tacky about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to describe specifically how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If viewers have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo design that explains itself won’t have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo design produced for a hair layout studio featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo that conveyed an atmosphere of serenity and connection for their new hair studio. I came up with a design which did not go the obvious route of crafting merely a stylized orchid but instead crafted a business logo which suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by putting attention on the logo design along with the figure of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in designing a logo is more often than not the wrong route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead laid the importance on the feeling that they really wanted to project to their patrons.

Logo style for a software program designer the design attributes and iconic aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and drive management. The kernel unites the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it intimated something to the owner of the company and in quite a few cases the symbolism supporting a logo is equally as important as how it brands the organization it represents.

A logo layout featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly knew the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a location to sell their previously owned goods to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Novato logo design dsign with a graphic that garners the attention of vehicles and projects an image that arouses the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.
Logo layout MQ ranches, this logo layout has a field integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo design wasn’t really developed for an Novato, California regional farm it was actually developed for a commodities broker, and this brand was one of several that fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to create a brand mark that projected trust, success, and opulence.

Novato Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo layout function for externally facing arrowhead and also the arrowheads imply that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what kind of logo design they preferred, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the liberty to delve into any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye without recognizing where the target is. Luckily, in this particular instance, I hit a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo created for using an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font style that is reminiscent of a popular sporting activities team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted quite a lot of restaurant business logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking in which I worked closely with the owner to produce a business logo that worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
