Oakland Logo Design

Virtually every new Oakland company understands that they need a logo, however few new business owners fully grasp the pivotal role their company logo will play in their becoming successful, or exactly why one business logo functions better than another. A company logo has an instant and long term influence on the growth of a business, select the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, choose the wrong one and it will be a barrier and an impediment for the longevity of an organization. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Oakland companies succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t require contemplation, they can be understood in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable business logo will remain legible and equally emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the enterprise they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo must be lasting and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from now.

Retro logo layout of a bicycle developed for a Oakland coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee shop were actually launching in an older part of the city and wanted to visualize a retro atmosphere without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I achieved both of these tasks by creating a sign design that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a timeless business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide and also bacteria developed for Oakland clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which studies the causes and effects of diseases, mainly the branch of medicine that works with the laboratory assessment of samples of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is the only instance I call to mind in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Normally I try not to be extremely literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, yet it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more appealing, more focus grabbing and much more meaningful.

logo design with a jumping environment-friendly frog designed for a household fun facility in Oakland.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental practices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the business features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to incorporate a some springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a better dynamic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I came up with was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

photography logo featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - created for Oakland travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche speciality due to the fact that travel photographers don’t shoot locations or things but instead project emotional experiences by means of the photos they record. The idea behind this logo design was to utilize negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of almost all good photographers in that they oftentimes share entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be conveyed with just words. I made an effort to do something very similar to this logo by using the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Oakland logo design but also to show the depth of her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Oakland logo layout with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of business logo design jobs that I take on I really take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A but the client, even though he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular man really disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family members didn’t share his contempt for this particular kind of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I urge them to share it with friends and family as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get unprejudiced point of views on the worthiness of a design concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family and they really liked the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logo designs are a weird animal in the design world because the people that tend to hire an expert to create their logo recognize how important a logo design is for their organization so they are way more vested in the result. Every logo job possesses it’s portion of challenges, however the biggest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, design for Oakland book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped slice of real estate to work with, but it really is the most necessary part of a published book considering that it is usually the primary thing a person views in the book store. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity they will likely ever have to spotlight their product and get their logo design in front of the men and women that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo made for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with benches customized to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go however it looks like that in many occurrences one of the traits consumers often tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young startup commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not sure it actually “took off” their custom logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to affording a good sense of flight and it was surely a success.

Oakland logo design made use of for advertising and also a label style for Vintage Situation includes an old-fashioned font design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for music instruments, which appeared to be antique cases. For this logo design I sought to come up with a logo that had a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be utilized for every thing from a website to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another point in time.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Oakland, design consist of an arc with lines intersecting through it to suggest metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can easily be one of the most challenging logo design projects due to the fact that it seems that each and every dental professional incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental business logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to company branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the exact same way dental offices do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would probably include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I actually love doing dental business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and inevitably I created a concept that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this concept over to the client the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 personalities staggered in elevation to stand for a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be illustrative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be very literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution wants to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo which communicated that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The goal of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to explain exactly how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If people have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo that illustrates itself won’t have the chance to be understood.

Logo layout produced for a hair layout workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design which conveyed a spirit of tranquility and class for their new hair salon. I came up with a design that did not go the obvious direction of designing just a stylized orchid but rather created a logo that suggested a flower in the formation of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the concept with the figure of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is more often than not the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately placed the attention on the feeling that they wanted to transmit to their customers.

Logo layout for a software developer the design attributes and renowned component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and hard drive operations. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a connection between the software and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it intimated something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the meaning supporting a business logo is equally as important as how it serves the business it represents.

A logo style including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly realized the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a location to sell off their used equipment to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Oakland logo design dsign using an illustration that grabs the attention of vehicles and projects an image that wakens the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.
Logo style MQ ranches, this logo design has a field incorporated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand concept wasn’t actually produced for an Oakland regional farm it was in reality developed for an investments broker, and this logo design was one of many that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was actually to generate a image that projected esteem, financial success, and luxury.
Logo design made for the use of an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script typeface that is evocative a renowned sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have crafted dozens of restaurant custom logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking in which I worked closely with the proprietor to develop a business logo which worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
