Oakland, California Logo Design

Every new Oakland business understands that they are in need of a logo, but few new business owners entirely comprehend the essential role their business logo will make in their becoming successful, or exactly why one business logo works more effectively than another. A business logo has a critical and lasting effect on the financial success of a business, choose the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, go with the wrong one and it can be an obstacle and a hindrance for the life of a company.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Oakland, California companies succeed, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these five features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t demand contemplation, they can be realized in just a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo will be legible and just as emotive at any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the enterprise they represent.
  5. Relevance: a company logo must be timeless and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.

Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo layout of a bicycle created for a Oakland, California coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and cafe were actually opening up in an older section of the area and hoped to project a retro vibe without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I achieved both jobs via designing a symbol concept that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a enduring business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide as well as bacteria made for Oakland, California clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which studies the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of medicine that works with the laboratory assessment of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the sole instance I recall where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Typically I try not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents very literally, yet it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that makes it more appealing, more focus grabbing and more memorable.

logo style with a leaping green frog created for a family enjoyable facility in Oakland, California.

Cool Springs | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dental experts, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the business has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to include a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a better dynamic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they utilized for advertising and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo featuring a flock of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, and a tree - designed for Oakland, California travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I think it is a niche field because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but rather reveal emotional experiences by means of the photos they capture. The thought behind this logo design was to make use of negative space to project more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they frequently tell entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be conveyed with just words. I attempted to do something similar to this logo design by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Oakland logo design but also to reveal the depth to her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Oakland logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design jobs that I take on I really enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the character A however my client, even though he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man really loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family didn’t share his aversion for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I encourage all of them to share it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get unprejudiced assessments on the worthiness of a design concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family and they really loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logos are a weird creature in the design world because the people that tend to hire a professional to create their logo design comprehend how essential a logo design is for their organization so they are much more vested in the result. Every logo design project has it’s allotment of challenges, but the most significant obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Oakland, California publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin parcel of real estate to work with, yet it is the most necessary part of a printed book because it is ordinarily the first thing a person views in the book store. With respect to a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity they will ever get to promote their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that buy actual books.

This three color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with the bars customized to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go yet it looks like that in many occurrences one of the items folks tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest fledgling commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not certain it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a good sense of airline flight and it was definitely a victory.

Oakland logo style made use of for advertising and marketing as well as a label layout for Vintage Instance features an old-fashioned font style style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand-new cases for music instruments, which seemed to be much older cases. For this brand concept I tried to come up with a logo that offered a fluid vintage feel to it and could be used for everything from a web site to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different generation.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Oakland, California, layout include an arc with lines intersecting through it to suggest metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care business logos can easily be one of the most challenging logo design jobs because it appears that each and every dentist features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to company branding, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dentists do every one of their logo designs would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would probably have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I really enjoy doing dentist business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a concept that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was evident was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a family members not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 personalities startled in height to represent a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the families in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wants to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo which communicated that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The aim of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to summarize specifically how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If viewers have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that explains itself won’t have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo style created for a hair design workshop featuring a script font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a company logo which related a feeling of tranquility and connection for their new hair studio. I came up with a design that didn’t go the obvious route of crafting simply a stylized orchid but alternatively created a business logo that implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated in to the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the logo design with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering above the logo itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is in most cases the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead put the main focus on the perception that they wanted to transmit to their customers.

Logo design for a software developer the layout features and renowned aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and drive operations. The kernel attaches the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a connection in between the software and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it meant something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the significance supporting a business logo is just as important as how it brands the business it stands for.

A logo design featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly recognized the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment company. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a place to sell off their used items to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Oakland logo dsign with a graphic that garners the attention of traffic and projects an image that calls to mind the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.
Logo style MQ farms, this logo layout has a field included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo idea wasn’t actually composed for an Oakland, California area farm it was in reality designed for a products broker, and this particular business logo was one of multiple that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was really to produce an identity that projected self-assurance, financial success, and luxury.

Oakland Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo style attribute for outwardly encountering arrowhead and also the arrowheads indicate that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the opportunity to investigate any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye in the absence of knowing where the target is. Fortunately, in this instance, I nailed a bullseye with the 1st go.

Logo designed for the use of an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant script font that is evocative a popular sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have crafted loads of restaurant custom logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project in which I worked directly with the owner to create a logo design which worked very well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
