STRATEGIES FOR SELECTING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo is an investment in both your time and your money so anytime a design firm presents a money back guarantee try to bear in mind that they can not reimburse the amount of time you invest which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some designers talk a good game but in the end a design agency can only be judged from the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their design portfolio doesn’t contain real life examples odds are they will not be able to deliver a top quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s objective is to be recognized and remembered, and it’s goal is to mirror your personal vision for your company. If a logo designer isn’t focused on actualizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how soon they will get paid.

Palo Alto LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping business owners develop unforgettable brands. We have done branding work for builders, colleges, heart surgeons, wedding singers, diners, retail stores, and practically every other kind of business you can envision. What makes us unique compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every brand identity project as though it will be used as an electrical sign. As a result of our sign first method our identity designs can, and have been utilized in everything from garment labels to electrical signs. Our sign first approach insures that our logos are equally successful whether they are used in television commercials or website apps, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and always remembered no matter of scale or purpose.

American Made ★ Design

Something which truly sets ImageCo apart from other design agencies that you might have come across in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are brought on board to do, we do in-house. Irrespective of the kind of design project we undertake, brand identity design, business website, trade show display, or electrical sign, we do not, and never will farm out our client’s projects to organizations based outside the US. When you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the individual that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a middleman that marks up the price of your project and dictates the conditions of how my customers and I do business.

ASPECTS OF A GREAT LOGO DESIGN

Virtually every new Palo Alto entrepreneur realizes that they need a logo, however few new business owners thoroughly realize the crucial role their company logo can play in their success, or the reason that one logo works more effectively than another. A logo has an instant and lasting effect on the financial success of a business, go with the right one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, go with the incorrect one and it can be an obstacle and an impediment for the life span of an organization. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Palo Alto companies succeed, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is because they all have these five features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t require deliberation, they can be comprehended in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from clothing labels to billboards a scalable logo design will remain legible and just as emotive at any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the product or organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo needs to be timeless and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from today.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s both a verb as well as a noun, it is an identifying mark and also the act of noting something to ensure that it can be identified, its genesis comes from the mark burned onto livestock. Today a brand represents pretty much anything with a motive, regardless of whether it be revenue or government agencies, a brand is an inherent aspect of specifying the value of something in the consumer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s sexy cousin, they are each from the very same family, the difference being that advertising and marketing are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity competition targeted at a specific audience, it’s goal is to create a mental image that the target market will likely connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated by advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When a person says the brand names Ferrari or Mustang what we consider is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and that is what makes individuals want those brands. Brand image is why individuals identify with most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can identify with.

Branding Companies – If you reflect on the history of a lot of branding firms you’ll discover that they are often rebranded advertising and marketing agencies. When somebody says they are in marketing lots of people will likely have an idea about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or heard belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a graphic designer that concentrates on a type of visual design which helps form the public image of a business, a product or a business. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, signage designs, packaging, as well as collateral products such as business cards, stationery, as well as brochures. Some identity designers also build websites and also user interfaces. The vital role of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and an emotional tone with the objective of influencing activities, results and perceptions.

select signs/logos

Retro logo style of a bike created for a Palo Alto coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffee shop were opening up in an older section of the city and really wanted to visualize a retro feel without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I fulfilled the two jobs by means of developing a trademark design that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide and bacteria created for Palo Alto medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that investigates the triggers and effects of diseases, especially the field of medicine which works with the clinical assessment of samples of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the only instance I recollect in which I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Usually I try not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a point, this design approaches the company it serves quite literally, yet it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more interesting, more attention grabbing and a lot more meaningful.

logo style with a leaping environment-friendly frog made for a family members enjoyable facility in Palo Alto.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the sorts of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental professionals, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to incorporate a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better dynamic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they utilized for marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, and also a tree - created for Palo Alto traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche speciality due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead convey emotional experiences by means of the images they capture. The thought behind this logo concept was to utilize negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of most professional photographers in that they often tell entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be revealed with just words. I tried to do something comparable to this logo design by making use of the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Palo Alto logo design but also to show the depth in her work and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Palo Alto logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I honestly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A however my customer, even though he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This guy seriously loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members did not share his contempt for this particular kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage them to talk about it with colleagues and family as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get unbiased judgements on the value of a design concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family members and they adored the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logo designs are a weird creature in the design world because the people that have a tendency to hire a professional to design their business logo realize how important a logo is for their company so they are way more invested in the result. Every logo project possesses it’s share of difficulties, however the largest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Palo Alto publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender segment of real estate to work with, yet it is the most vital part of a published book due to the fact that it is ordinarily the initial thing a person views in the book shop. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity they will ever have to spotlight their brand and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with benches customized to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go however it looks like that in many cases one of the things individuals usually tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller start-up commuter/shuttle air service based in LA and while I’m not certain it actually “took off” their business logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to imparting a good sense of airline flight and it was undoubtedly a victory.

Palo Alto logo layout made use of for advertising and also a tag style for Vintage Situation features an old-fashioned typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand new cases for music instruments, that appeared to be vintage cases. For this logo concept I sought to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid vintage feel to it and could be used for anything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different generation.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Palo Alto, style include an arc with lines converging through it to imply steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can easily be one of the most difficult logo projects considering that it seems that almost every dentist includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the very most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business branding, if restaurants approached their branding in the exact same way dental practitioners do every one of their logos would be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would probably include an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I really love doing dental care logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this particular design over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a family not-for-profit, the logo design includes 4 personalities startled in elevation to stand for a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the families in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be far too literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a logo which conveyed that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The objective of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to describe how people should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If you have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo design that describes itself will never have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo layout created for a Palo Alto hair layout workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design which projected a spirit of relaxation and connection for their new hair salon. I came up with a design which did not go the obvious course of creating just a stylized orchid but rather created a company logo that implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating above the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is more often than not the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead placed the attention on the feeling that they wanted to project to their customers.

Arabian equine logo style created for an equine ranch that concentrates on breeding Arabian show steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed an original custom logo design fashioned to illustrate the unique physical traits of the Arabian kind of horses. With an identifiable head form and higher tail posture, the Arabian is one of the very most immediately recognizable horse breeds in the whole world.

Las Cafe, A Palo Alto restaurant logo style a little restaurant, design consists of a customized script typeface which hovers over a group of luxuriant lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a small restaurant, design contains a changed manuscript typeface which hovers above a team of elaborate lines and also dots.

Logo design for a software application designer the style features as well as legendary Palo Alto aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive management. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a bridge between the software and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it meant something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the symbolism behind a business logo is equally as important as how it serves the enterprise it represents.

Evolve logo style developed for a Palo Altoindoor developer, design feature a collection of red circles that converge and change the letter O in the center of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Palo Alto interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is an individual who prepares, explores, collaborates, and oversees such projects. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that involves conceptual development, space planning, location assessments, programming, research, corresponding with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction management, and implementation of the design.

logo layout provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Palo Alto, the personalities for letter V and A in center of words advanced have been modified to tie directly right into words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Palo Alto logo design assignment was completed for a management advisor that helps business leaders to become more effective at managing people, expectations, and profitability.

A Palo Alto business logo style featuring an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly knew the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a location to sell off their previously owned items to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Palo Alto business logo design with an illustration that garners the interest of traffic and projects an image that arouses the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.

Logo layout MQ farms, this Palo Alto company logo style has actually an area incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand idea wasn’t really produced for an Palo Alto area farm it was in reality created for an investments broker, and this logo was one of several which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was actually to create a image that projected trust, success, and opulence.

Palo Alto Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo style feature for ostensibly encountering arrowhead and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design they would like, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the opportunity to delve into any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye without realizing where the target is. Thankfully, in this particular instance, I nailed a bullseye with the 1st shot.

Logo design designed for using an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font style that is evocative a well-known Palo Alto sports team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted loads of restaurant logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked closely with the owner to create a logo design which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
