Petaluma, California Logo Design

Each and every new Petaluma company knows they need a logo, but few entrepreneurs fully comprehend the essential role their logo design can take in their financial success, or why one logo design functions more effectively than another. A business logo has an instant and long-term influence on the financial success of a business, pick the right one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, go with the wrong one and it can be an obstacle and a hindrance for the life span of a business.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Petaluma, California companies succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is because they all have these five things in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t require deliberation, they can be realized in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable logo will be legible and just as emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the enterprise they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a business logo must be timeless and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from now.

Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo layout of a bike produced for a Petaluma, California coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffee bar were opening in an older section of the town and hoped to cast an old-fashioned tone without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I accomplished both jobs via designing a trademark design that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo design with a microscopic lense slide as well as bacteria made for Petaluma, California clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which investigates the triggers and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare that deals with the clinical evaluation of samples of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is the sole instance I remember in which I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Typically I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it serves quite literally, however it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that makes it more interesting, more interest grabbing and more unforgettable.

logo design with a jumping green frog created for a family members enjoyable facility in Petaluma, California.

Cool Springs | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental experts, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the company features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to integrate a some springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a much more lively high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they utilized for marketing and advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I designed was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, and also a tree - made for Petaluma, California travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche profession because travel photographers don’t shoot places or things but rather reveal emotional journeys by means of the pictures they capture. The idea behind this logo composition was to make use of negative space to project more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they often share entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be conveyed with just words. I made an effort to do something the same to this logo by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Petaluma logo design but also to illustrate the depth of her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Petaluma logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I really take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however my customer, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man really despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family didn’t share his aversion for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage them to discuss it with friends and family as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get neutral judgements on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family and they adored the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logo designs are a strange creature in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire a professional to design their logo design realize how important a logo is for their business so they are way more invested in the result. Every logo design project possesses it’s portion of challenges, however the biggest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Petaluma, California book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow slice of real estate to work with, yet it is the most critical part of a printed book since it is often the primary thing a person sees in the bookstore. With respect to a publisher, it’s the absolute best opportunity that they will likely ever get to spotlight their label and get their logo design in front of the men and women that shop for actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design designed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches modified to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go nevertheless it looks like that in many instances one of the items people often tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest start-up commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not sure it actually “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to affording a sense of air travel and it was definitely a success.

Petaluma logo layout used for advertising and marketing and a tag layout for Vintage Instance features an old-fashioned typeface layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for music instruments, which appeared to be much older cases. For this custom logo concept I strove to come up with a logo that offered a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be utilized for everything from a web page to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from another generation.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Petaluma, California, layout include an arc with lines intersecting with it to suggest steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logo designs can be one of the most challenging logo design jobs considering that it appears that almost every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to business marketing, if restaurants approached their advertising in the exact same way dental professionals do every one of their logos would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would likely include an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really love doing dental logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular field of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a design that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was evident was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 characters startled in height to stand for a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the people in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution hopes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The aim of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to describe how people should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If people have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that describes itself won’t have the chance to be understood.

Logo layout produced for a hair layout workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design that carried a spirit of simplicity and class for their new hair salon. I created a design that didn’t go the obvious course of designing simply a stylized orchid but rather designed a logo design which suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the logo design along with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering over the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a logo is generally the wrong route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead laid the importance on the feeling that they wanted to forecast to their clients.

Logo layout for a software program programmer the style functions and iconic aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and hard drive management. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection in between the software program and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it intimated something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the symbolism behind a business logo is equally as important as how it brands the business it represents.

A logo style including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly recognized the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a place to sell off their secondhand products to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Petaluma business logo dsign with an image which garners the attention of traffic and projects an image that wakens the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.
Logo layout MQ farms, this logo design has a field incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo design wasn’t actually developed for an Petaluma, California area farm it was actually developed for a products broker, and this particular logo was one of a handful of that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was really to produce a brand mark that projected confidence, effectiveness, and wealth.

Petaluma Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo style function for externally encountering arrow and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what type of logo design that they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the flexibility to delve into any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye in the absence of knowing where the target is. Thankfully, in this particular instance, I struck a bullseye with the very first try.

Logo developed for making use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font that is similar to a famous sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created loads of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked directly with the owner to design a logo design that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
