STRATEGIES FOR PICKING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo design is an investment in both your time and your money so anytime a design firm offers a money back guarantee try to keep in mind that they can not reimburse the amount of time you invest which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some design firms talk a good game but inevitably a design firm can only be determined by the quality of their design work, if the work in their design portfolio does not contain actual examples odds are they will never be able to deliver a quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s objective is to be understood and remembered, and it’s purpose is to echo your unique vision for your company. If a logo designer is not focused on realizing your vision, the thing they are really focused on is how soon they can get paid.

Sacramento LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping small business owners grow memorable brand identities. We’ve done brand identity design work for mechanics, colleges, heart surgeons, party planners, cafes, retailers, and virtually every other kind of business you can imagine. What makes us unique compared to traditional designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every brand identity project as if it will be utilized as an electric sign. Because of our sign first strategy our brand identity designs can, and have been used in everything from clothing labels to neon signs. Our sign first approach guarantees that our logo designs are just as successful whether they are used in TV commercials or web applications, they are consistently recognizable, comprehended, and remembered regardless of scale or application.

American Made ★ Design

Something that truly sets ImageCo apart from other design firms that you might have come across in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every project we are brought on board to perform, we perform in-house. Regardless of the kind of project we undertake, logo design, website, trade show display, or electric sign, we do not, and never will farm out our client’s projects to contractors based outside the United States. When you phone us at 1-855-IMAGECO the individual that picks up the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that increases the cost of your design project and imposes the conditions of how we conduct business.

QUALITIES OF A GOOD LOGO DESIGN

Virtually every new Sacramento entrepreneur knows they require a logo, however few start-ups entirely understand the key role their logo can perform in their financial success, or precisely why one logo design performs better than another. A logo has a critical and sustaining influence on the viability of a company, pick the right one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of an organization. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Sacramento businesses prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t need consideration, they can be comprehended in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from label to posters a scalable business logo will remain legible and equally emotive at every size.
  3. Versatility: logos which operate on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the product or company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a company logo needs to be lasting and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.

understanding branding

Brand – It is both a verb as well as a noun, it’s an identifying mark and also the process of denoting something to make sure that it can be distinguished, its origin comes from the brand branded onto livestock. Nowadays a brand signifies pretty much anything with an objective, whether it be revenue or government agencies, a brand is an inherent aspect of defining the worth of something in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like advertising and marketing’s attractive cousin, they are both from the same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity competition targeted at a specific audience, it’s goal is to create an image that the target market can identify with.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured through advertising and marketing and also identity design. When someone says the names Ferrari or Mustang what we think of is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and that is what makes individuals purchase those brands. Brand image is why individuals identify with most things, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Agencies – If you reflect on the beginning of a lot of branding companies you’ll find that they are often re-branded marketing firms. When somebody says they are in advertising and marketing many people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, touched or heard belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that specializes in a type of visual design that helps shape the perception of a company, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, sign designs, packaging, as well as collateral products such as cards, stationery, and sales brochures. Some visual designers also design websites and also software interfaces. The crucial role of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and a psychological tone with the goal of influencing activities, end results and also assumptions.

Featured signs/logos

Retro logo style of a bike produced for a Sacramento coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and cafe were actually opening in an old section of town and wished to cast a retro tone without coming across as monotonous or low energy. I achieved the two tasks via creating a logo design that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

clinical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide as well as bacteria designed for Sacramento clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that studies the causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the branch of medicine which works with the laboratory evaluation of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the only instance I recollect in which I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be excessively literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it serves quite literally, but it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that makes it more interesting, more focus grabbing and even more meaningful.

logo design with a leaping green frog created for a household fun center in Sacramento.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the kinds of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental practices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the business has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to feature a some springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more dynamic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they utilized for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, and also a tree - created for Sacramento travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche field because travel photographers tend not to capture locations or things but instead communicate emotional journeys through the photos they capture. The idea behind this logo composition was to use negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they oftentimes tell whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be communicated with just words. I attempted to do something the same to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Sacramento logo but also to show the depth to her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Sacramento logo design with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of custom logo design projects that I take on I seriously enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A but the customer, while he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man seriously disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his friends and family did not share his scorn for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get unprejudiced point of views on the merit of a design concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they really liked the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logo designs are a strange animal in the design world given that the people that are inclined to hire a professional to design their logo design recognize how crucial a logo design is for their business so they are much more invested in the end result. Every logo design project possesses it’s allotment of challenges, but the greatest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the client the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, layout for Sacramento publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped parcel of real estate to work with, yet it is the most crucial part of a printed book due to the fact that it is usually the first thing a person views in the bookstore. For a publisher, it’s the opportunity they will likely ever have to promote their label and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with benches changed to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart however it seems that in many cases 1 of the aspects consumers often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller fledgling commuter/shuttle air service located in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their business logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to affording a good sense of airline flight and it was definitely a winner.

Sacramento logo layout made use of for advertising and marketing and also a tag style for Vintage Case includes an old-fashioned typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for music instruments, that looked to be antique cases. For this logo concept I attempted to come up with a logo that had a fluid old style feel to it and could easily be utilized for every thing from a website to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another generation.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Sacramento, style consist of an arc with lines intersecting through it to imply metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry business logos can be one of the most difficult logo design projects due to the fact that it appears that each and every dental professional involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to company branding, if restaurants approached their advertising in the very same way dental offices do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including an image of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I actually love doing dental care logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a concept that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this particular design over to the client the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a household nonprofit, the logo features 4 personalities startled in elevation to stand for a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the families in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution hopes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a logo that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The aim of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to illustrate exactly how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If viewers have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that describes itself will never have the chance to be understood.

Logo layout developed for a Sacramento hair design studio including a script font a hummingbird and an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo that conveyed a spirit of simplicity and connection for their new hair studio. I came up with a concept that didn’t go the obvious path of making merely a stylized orchid but alternatively delivered a business logo which implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by putting emphasis on the concept using the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is oftentimes the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately laid the main focus on the perception that they wanted to project to their patrons.

Arabian steed logo style created for a steed ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo created a one-of-a-kind brand design styled to exemplify the unique physical traits of the Arabian kind of equines. With an identifiable head shape and high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most easily recognizable horse types in the whole world.

Las Cafe, A Sacramento Coffee shop logo style a little dining establishment, style includes a changed script font style which floats above a group of elaborate lines as well as dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo style a small dining establishment, style includes a customized script font which hovers over a group of luxuriant lines and dots.

Logo style for a software program developer the layout features and also famous Sacramento component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and hard drive operations. The kernel attaches the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge in between the software and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it represented something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the symbolism supporting a logo design is equally as important as how it brands the organization it represents.

Progress logo style produced for a Sacramentointerior developer, style function a series of red circles that converge as well as change the letter O in the middle of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Sacramento interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is somebody who arranges, investigates, coordinates, and oversees such ventures. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that includes conceptual development, area planning, location evaluations, programming, investigation, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction supervision, and execution of the design.

logo style done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Sacramento, the characters for letter V as well as A in middle of the word progressed have been modified to connect straight right into words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Sacramento logo design job was completed for a management advisor that aids business leaders to become more efficient at supervising people, expectations, and profitability.

A Sacramento business logo style including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly recognized the market was primed for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, angling or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a location to sell off their used items to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Sacramento business logo design along with an image that garners the interest of vehicles and projects an image that wakens the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.

Logo style MQ farms, this Sacramento company logo layout has actually a field included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem idea wasn’t actually produced for an Sacramento area farm it was actually designed for a commodities broker, and this brand was one of several which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was actually to make a brand mark that projects self-confidence, success, and opulence.

Sacramento Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo layout attribute for ostensibly facing arrowhead and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design they wanted, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the freedom to discover any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye in the absence of realizing where exactly the target is. Luckily, in this case, I nailed a bullseye with the 1st try.

Logo design developed for using an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font style that is reminiscent of a popular Sacramento sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created quite a lot of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked directly with the owner to create a logo design which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
