Memorable Logos That Tell Stories and Connect Emotionally

Developing a brand identity or a business logo that is both unforgettable and expresses the story about who you are or what you actually do is a monumental undertaking. The difficulty is to create a design that is simplistic enough to be comprehended at a glimpse and imparts enough information that it can articulate who you are. However no logo can totally tell your story or explain your business, and moving down that path often makes for a logo design that does neither. Although, in skilled hands, it is quite possible to strike a balance between both and design a logo that both informs and emotes and reaching that sweet spot is what every business should hope for from their brand identity designer.

ImageCo is one person, Tim Garner, I am a free lance branding specialist. For over two decades I have been designing memorable logos and brand identity designs which tell stories and resonate with clients. But don’t take my word for it, just check out my logo portfolio and discover for yourself. I don’t assert that I am the best logo designer in the world, but, I do know what I’m doing and my clients tend to agree.

A LOGO IS NOT YOUR BRAND

The expression “your logo is not your brand” is a statement that is often said with such fervor by people working in the branding sector, that a person has to wonder why so many people in branding companies hate logos as much as they seem to. It is quite true that your logo is not your business’s brand, however what does that mean for a brand that has no logo? One thing is certain, it all but guarantees that a brand with no logo will be faceless and forgettable.

Without a visual identity, a company’s brand is really nothing more than a fading memory because customers would have nothing to anchor their experiences too.

Some compare a business’s logo to a smile or a handshake which is somewhat accurate, however it’s also much more than that. A logo is a brand’s anchor and it also serves as the cornerstone of a business’s brand image. A logo acts as an anchor due to the fact that the entire brand experience is anchored to it. It is also a brand’s cornerstone, because a cornerstone is the first stone laid when constructing the foundation of the structure above it, and once laid it will serve as the reference point for every stone that comes after it. A logo serves in the same way, it is a foundational building block that supports the organization it represents, and it continuously serves as a reference point that helps guide a brand as it expands.

ImageCo is a brand identity agency and our mission is to aid our customers lay that cornerstone and set that anchor. We help businesses look well established, more refined, and more experienced. This helps ensure that our clients will always stand out, and are not only worthy of a seat at the table, but look like they ought to be seated at the head of that table.

Santee LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping start ups and entrepreneurs cultivate memorable brand identities. We’ve performed brand design work for mechanics, colleges, heart surgeons, wedding singers, coffee shops, retail stores, and virtually every other kind of business concern you can think of. What makes ImageCo unique compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every branding project as if it will be employed as an electric sign. As a result of our sign first technique our brand identity designs can, and have been used in everything from fashion labels to electrical signs. Our sign first method ensures that our logo designs are equally successful whether they are used in TV commercials or website apps, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and remembered regardless of size or use.

American Made ★ Design

Something that really sets ImageCo apart from many of the design agencies that you might have encountered in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are retained to perform, we perform ourselves. No matter the type of project we accept, logo design, web site, trade show display, or electrical sign, we do not, and never will job-out our client’s work to 3rd parties located outside the US. When you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the individual that answers the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a middleman that increases the price of your project and determines the terms of how we conduct business.

ASPECTS OF A GOOD LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new Santee company understands that they require a logo, but few start ups thoroughly realize the key role their logo design can perform in their becoming successful, or exactly why one business logo works better than another. A logo design has an instant and long-term impact on the financial success of a company, go with the correct one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, go with the incorrect one and it can be an obstacle and an impediment for the life span of a company.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Santee businesses prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these five features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require contemplation, they can be comprehended in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from label to posters a scalable logo will stay legible and just as emotive at any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos which function on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the item or organization they brand.
  5. Relevance: a logo design should be ageless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s a verb and a noun, it is an identifying mark and also the process of denoting something to ensure that it can be identified, its genesis originates from the mark branded onto animals. Nowadays a brand represents practically anything with an objective, regardless of whether it be profit or political parties, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of defining the value of something in the consumer’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like marketing and advertising’s sexy cousin, they are all from the same family, the difference being that advertising and marketing have to do with making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity competition targeted at a target audience, it’s objective is to create a mental image that the target market will likely relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured through advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When someone states the brand names Lamborghini or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can deliver us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and brand image is what makes people buy those brands. Brand image is why individuals buy most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can identify with.

Branding Companies – If you look back at the origin of most branding agencies you’ll find that they are quite often re-branded marketing and advertising companies. When someone says they are in advertising the majority of people will likely have an idea about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or heard belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a graphic designer that concentrates on a kind of visual design which helps form the image of a firm, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers create logo designs, signage designs, product packaging, and also collateral material such as business cards, stationery, and also sales brochures. Some identity designers also design web sites and user interfaces. The essential function of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and a psychological tone with the objective of influencing actions, end results and also perceptions.

Featured SIGNS & LOGOS

Retro logo design of a bicycle created for a Santee coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffee shop were actually opening in an older section of the town and really wanted to project a retro feel without coming across as monotonous or low energy. I accomplished the two tasks by means of developing a business logo concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

clinical logo design with a microscope slide and also germs designed for Santee medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which studies the root causes and effects of diseases, especially the field of healthcare which works with the laboratory assessment of specimens of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the sole instance I recall where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents fairly literally, however it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that makes it more appealing, more attention grabbing and even more unforgettable.

logo design with a jumping green frog developed for a household fun facility in Santee.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental practices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the business features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to feature a some springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more enthusiastic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a group of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - developed for Santee travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector because travel photographers tend not to shoot places or things but rather communicate emotional journeys through the photos they record. The thought behind this logo concept was to utilize negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of most good photographers in that they frequently convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance that can’t be conveyed with mere words. I tried to do something the same to this logo by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Santee logo but also to reveal the depth to her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Santee logo design with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design projects that I take on I honestly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the letter A but my client, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular man truly despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his friends and family did not share his hatred for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I urge them to share it with colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get objective viewpoints on the value of a design. Fortunately, he shared it with his whole family and they adored the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logo designs are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to design their business logo comprehend how vital a logo is for their business so they are way more invested in the outcome. Every logo project possesses it’s allotment of hurdles, however the largest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Santee book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin piece of real estate to work with, yet it is the most important part of a published book given that it is ordinarily the initial thing a person views in the book shop. Regarding a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will likely ever get to advertise their label and get their logo design in front of the men and women that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches modified to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart nevertheless it looks like that in many instances 1 of the traits folks often tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small fledgling commuter/shuttle air service based in LA and although I’m not certain it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to conferring a spirit of flight and it was undoubtedly a victory.

Santee logo style utilized for advertising and a label layout for Vintage Instance features an antiquated typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be older cases. For this logo design I attempted to come up with a logo that provided a fluid vintage feel to it and could be utilized for everything from a web page to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another generation.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Santee, layout consist of an arc with lines converging with it to indicate steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry business logos can be one of the most difficult logo jobs due to the fact that it seems that almost every dentist includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business advertising, if dining establishments approached their branding in the same way dentists do every one of their logos would be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would probably have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I really love doing dental care business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a design that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a family nonprofit, the logo features 4 characters staggered in height to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the residents in his city. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be very literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution hopes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design that communicated that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The goal of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to summarize how people should think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If people have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that describes itself won’t have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo design produced for a Santee hair layout workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a logo design that projected a sense of ease and connection for their new hair salon. I created a design that didn’t go the obvious path of making just a stylized orchid but alternatively designed a business logo which implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the name and by placing emphasis on the logo design using the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a business logo is oftentimes the wrong route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately laid the main focus on the perception that they really wanted to project to their customers.

Arabian steed logo style developed for an equine ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian program horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed an original creative logo design customized to manifest the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of horses. With an identifiable head form and very high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most immediately identifiable equine lineages in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Santee Coffee shop logo design a tiny dining establishment, style consists of a changed script font which hovers above a team of luxuriant lines as well as dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo design a small restaurant, layout contains a customized manuscript font which hovers over a group of luxuriant lines as well as dots.

Logo design for a software programmer the layout functions as well as famous Santee component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive management. The kernel connects the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a bridge between the software and computer hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it intimated something to the business owner of the business and in quite a few cases the substance supporting a logo design is equally as important as how it brands the organization it stands for.

Evolve logo design produced for a Santeeindoor developer, design feature a series of red circles that converge and change the letter O in the middle of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

logo layout provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Santee, the characters for letter V as well as A in middle of the word progressed have been customized to tie directly into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Santee logo design assignment was undertaken for a leadership consultant that enables business leaders to develop into more effective at supervising people, expectations, and profitability.

A Santee business logo design including a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the owners of On the Fly recognized the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a place to sell off their secondhand items to other sports enthusiasts.

I created their Santee logo design utilizing an image that pulls in the attention of traffic and projects an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo layout MQ farms, this Santee company logo layout has an area included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem concept wasn’t actually designed for an Santee regional farm it was actually designed for a products broker, and this particular business logo was one of a handful of that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was to create a image that projects esteem, effectiveness, and prosperity.

Santee Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo style feature for outwardly dealing with arrow as well as the arrowheads indicate that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what type of logo design that they desired, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the opportunity to explore any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye without realizing where the target is. Luckily, in this case, I struck a bullseye with the first shot.

Logo developed for the use of a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript font style that is evocative a well-known Santee sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created dozens of restaurant custom logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project in which I worked closely with the proprietor to design a logo which worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted sign that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
