Silver Lake, California Logo Design

Every new Silver Lake business person knows they need a logo, but few entrepreneurs fully understand the vital role their logo will make in their becoming successful, or precisely why one logo performs far better than another. A logo design has a critical and long-term effect on the success of a business, select the correct one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it will be an obstacle and an impediment for the life of an organization.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Silver Lake, California companies prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not demand scrutiny, they can be comprehended in just a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to movie screens a scalable logo design will remain legible and equally emotive at every dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the business they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo must be ageless and should feel as relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.
Retro logo design of a bike produced for a Silver Lake, California coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffeehouse were opening up in an old section the city and wished to impart a retro feel without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I accomplished both of these tasks by means of designing a custom logo concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is an ageless business image.

medical logo style with a microscopic lense slide and also bacteria made for Silver Lake, California clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that analyzes the triggers and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare which works with the laboratory evaluation of specimens of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the sole instance I remember in which I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Normally I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents very literally, however it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that helps make it more captivating, more focus grabbing and more meaningful.

logo design with a jumping environment-friendly frog created for a household enjoyable facility in Silver Lake, California.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of jobs that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental professionals, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to feature a handful of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a better enthusiastic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for marketing and advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a flock of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, and also a tree - developed for Silver Lake, California traveling photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche profession because travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but rather reveal emotional experiences through the photos they capture. The thought behind this logo composition was to use negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they oftentimes tell whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be communicated with just words. I made an effort to do something very similar to this logo by using the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Silver Lake logo design but also to show the depth in her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Silver Lake logo layout with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of logo design projects that I take on I truly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A but my client, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man truly despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family didn’t share his hatred for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I encourage all of them to talk about it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with other people that they don’t even know so as to get honest assessments on the value of a design concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they loved the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a strange creature in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire a professional to design their logo realize how crucial a logo design is for their business so they are much more invested in the final result. Every logo design job possesses it’s share of difficulties, however the biggest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also giving the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Silver Lake, California publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin segment of real estate to work with, yet it is the most important part of a printed book because it is usually the primary thing a person sees in the bookstore. For a publishing company, it’s the absolute best opportunity they will likely ever have to spotlight their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo made for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with the bars customized to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart yet it seems that in many occurrences one of the aspects consumers often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small start-up commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and while I’m not sure it really “took off” their custom logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to conferring a spirit of flight and it was surely a winner.

Silver Lake logo style used for marketing as well as a label layout for Vintage Instance includes an antiquated typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for musical instruments, which looked to be vintage cases. For this custom logo concept I sought to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could be used for anything from a website to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different point in time.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Silver Lake, California, layout consist of an arc with lines converging with it to suggest steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logos can easily be one of the most challenging logo jobs due to the fact that it seems that each and every dentist incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business marketing, if dining establishments approached their branding in the exact same way dental practices do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would probably contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I really love doing dentistry logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and subsequently I created a design that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 personalities staggered in elevation to stand for a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be illustrative of the devotion that William McNally had for the families in his city. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be far too literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wants to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design which communicated that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to summarize how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If people have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that describes itself won’t have the opportunity to be understood.

Logo layout created for a hair style studio featuring a script font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo which communicated a feeling of peace and class for their new hair salon. I created a design that did not go the obvious course of creating merely a stylized orchid but alternatively designed a logo that implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl featured into the letter O in the title and by putting emphasis on the logo design with the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the image itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is in most cases the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the main focus on the emotion that they really wanted to transmit to their clients.

Logo design for a software program programmer the design attributes as well as famous component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive managing. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a bridge in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it meant something to the owner of the company and in quite a few cases the significance supporting a logo design is equally as important as how it serves the company it stands for.

A logo design featuring a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly knew the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a place to sell off their pre-owned items to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Silver Lake logo dsign using an illustration which captures the interest of traffic and projects an image that wakens the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand design wasn’t actually created for an Silver Lake, California regional farm it was really created for an investments broker, and this creative logo was one of several which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. Silver Lake Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo style feature for externally dealing with arrow and also the arrowheads imply that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what type of logo design that they would like, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the opportunity to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye in the absence of understanding where the target is. Luckily, in this particular instance, I struck a bullseye with the 1st go.

Logo design designed for the use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript typeface that is evocative a well-known sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted dozens of restaurant logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the US, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking where I worked closely with the proprietor to create a logo design that worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
