Truckee, California Logo Design

Virtually every new Truckee business person knows they need a logo, yet few entrepreneurs thoroughly understand the vital role their business logo will make in their becoming successful, or precisely why one logo design performs far better than another. A business logo has an instant and sustaining impact on the financial success of a business, pick the correct one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, go with the wrong one and it can be an obstacle and an impediment for the life span of an organization.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Truckee, California companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 traits in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t demand contemplation, they can be grasped in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from labels to billboards a scalable business logo will continue to be legible and equally emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos which function on any device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are personal, and they are suitable for the organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo needs to be enduring and will feel as relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.
Retro logo layout of a bicycle developed for a Truckee, California coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually opening in an old section of town and hoped to project a vintage vibe without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I accomplished each of the jobs via developing a trademark design that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide and germs created for Truckee, California medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which investigates the causes and consequences of diseases, especially the branch of medicine which works with the laboratory evaluation of samplings of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the only instance I recall where I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Usually I try not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents quite literally, but it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that makes it more interesting, more interest grabbing and even more unforgettable.

logo layout with a jumping environment-friendly frog developed for a household fun facility in Truckee, California.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the kinds of jobs that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental experts, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the business has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to integrate a few springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a much more lively high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I came up with was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design including a group of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, and a tree - designed for Truckee, California traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche field due to the fact that travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but instead reveal emotional experiences through the pictures they capture. The idea behind this logo design was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of almost all good photographers in that they oftentimes share whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be communicated with just words. I made an effort to do something similar to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Truckee logo design but also to reveal the depth in her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Truckee logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design projects that I take on I really take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A but my customer, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man seriously hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family did not share his scorn for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I encourage them to discuss it with friends and family as well as with other people that they don’t even know so as to get objective opinions on the merit of a design concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they really liked the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logos are a strange creature in the design world given that the people that tend to hire an expert to create their business logo understand how crucial a logo design is for their company so they are way more invested in the outcome. Every logo project has it’s share of obstacles, but the largest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, layout for Truckee, California publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender parcel of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most necessary part of a published book due to the fact that it is in most cases the first thing a person sees in the book store. With respect to a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity that they will likely ever have to spotlight their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with the bars changed to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go however it seems like that in many instances 1 of the items consumers usually tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small new venture commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to conferring a sense of flight and it was surely a winner.

Truckee logo design utilized for advertising and marketing and also a label style for Vintage Instance features an old font style style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for music instruments, that appeared to be much older cases. For this brand design I strove to come up with a logo that had a fluid vintage feel to it and could easily be used for every thing from a web page to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from a different generation.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in Truckee, California, layout include an arc with lines intersecting via it to indicate metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logo designs can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design projects considering that it seems that each and every dental professional integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business marketing, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the exact same way dental professionals do every one of their company logos would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including an illustration of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I really enjoy doing dentistry business logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a specific area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a design that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was obvious was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a family not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 personalities surprised in height to stand for a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be illustrative of the devotion that William McNally had for the families in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wants to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design which conveyed that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The aim of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to summarize specifically how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If people have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo design that illustrates itself won’t have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo style produced for a hair design studio including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo design which carried a spirit of contentment and elegance for their new hair studio. I created a concept which did not go the obvious path of crafting simply a stylized orchid but instead crafted a business logo which suggested a flower in the pattern of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the logo design with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in designing a logo is oftentimes the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately put the focus on the emotion that they wanted to transmit to their clients.

Logo style for a software programmer the style functions as well as famous element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and disk operations. The kernel connects the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a connection between the software and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it meant something to the owner of the business and in quite a few cases the meaning supporting a logo design is just as important as how it serves the business it stands for.

A logo layout including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly realized the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a spot to market their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Truckee logo dsign using an illustration that pulls in the attention of vehicles and projects an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.
Logo style MQ farms, this logo style has a field incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand design wasn’t actually produced for an Truckee, California regional farm it was in reality devised for a products broker, and this particular brand was one of many which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to produce a image that projected self-assurance, success, and wealth.

Truckee Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo layout attribute for outwardly dealing with arrow as well as the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what type of logo design that they desired, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the liberty to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye in the absence of recognizing where the target is. Luckily, in this case, I struck a bullseye with the 1st shot.

Logo made for the use of a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant manuscript font style that is evocative a famous sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created loads of restaurant logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project in which I worked closely with the owner to design a logo that worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
