Ukiah Logo Design

Virtually every new Ukiah venture knows they are in need of a logo, yet few entrepreneurs thoroughly grasp the essential role their logo design will perform in their success, or the reason that one business logo works more effectively than another. A logo has an instant and long term effect on the growth of a company, choose the correct one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the life of a business. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Ukiah businesses prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these five features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t demand scrutiny, they can be comprehended in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable business logo will be legible and equally emotive at virtually any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the enterprise they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo should be lasting and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from now.

Retro logo design of a bike developed for a Ukiah coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffeehouse were opening up in an old part of town and wanted to visualize a vintage feel without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I achieved each of the jobs by means of developing a company logo design that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide as well as bacteria designed for Ukiah clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which researches the root causes and effects of diseases, especially the field of medicine that works with the laboratory assessment of samples of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I recall where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Usually I try not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents very literally, yet it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that makes it more captivating, more focus grabbing and even more meaningful.

logo layout with a leaping eco-friendly frog made for a family members enjoyable center in Ukiah.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of projects which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dental practices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the company features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to integrate a few springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a much more lively high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

photography logo including a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, and also a tree - designed for Ukiah traveling photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I think it is a niche area because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but instead communicate emotional journeys through the photos they record. The thought behind this logo concept was to make use of negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of almost all professional photographers in that they often share entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be revealed with mere words. I made an effort to do something comparable to this logo design by making use of the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Ukiah logo but also to illustrate the depth of her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Ukiah logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I honestly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however my customer, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man really despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family didn’t share his aversion for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I urge them to talk about it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t actually know so as to get honest point of views on the benefit of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his whole family and they really loved the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Business logos are a strange creature in the design world because the people that tend to hire an expert to design their logo design understand how important a logo design is for their company so they are way more invested in the result. Every logo job possesses it’s allotment of difficulties, but the biggest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a company and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Ukiah book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow piece of real estate to work with, however it is the most essential part of a printed book because it is ordinarily the initial thing a person views in the bookstore. With regard to a publisher, it’s the absolute best opportunity that they will likely ever have to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the people that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches customized to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart but it seems that in many instances 1 of the items consumers tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest startup commuter/shuttle airline based in LA and while I’m not sure it actually “took off” their logo design didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to conferring a feeling of airline flight and it was surely a victory.

Ukiah logo design used for advertising and marketing and also a tag design for Vintage Situation includes an antiquated font style design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, that looked to be antique cases. For this logo design I sought to come up with a logo that offered a fluid retro feel to it and could be used for anything from a website to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different era.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in Ukiah, design consist of an arc with lines intersecting with it to imply steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logo designs can be one of the most difficult logo design jobs due to the fact that it appears that every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to business advertising, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dental practitioners do every one of their logo designs would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would likely contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I really enjoy doing dental care logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a specific area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and ultimately I created a design that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design developed for a family nonprofit, the logo design includes 4 characters startled in height to stand for a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be depictive of the devotion that William McNally had for the residents in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be overly literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution wishes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design which conveyed that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to describe precisely how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If you have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo that explains itself won’t have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo layout developed for a hair design studio featuring a script font a hummingbird and also a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo design that carried an atmosphere of calmness and connection for their new hair salon. I created a design that didn’t go the obvious path of making just a stylized orchid but rather crafted a logo that suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl blended into the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the logo design using the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a logo is oftentimes the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately laid the attention on the emotion that they wanted to transmit to their clients.

Logo design for a software application designer the style features and iconic aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and disk operations. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a bridge between the software and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it symbolized something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the meaning behind a logo design is equally as important as how it serves the business it represents.

A logo design featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the owners of On the Fly understood the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting retailer that operates as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a location to sell their previously owned goods to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Ukiah logo dsign with a graphic which seizes the interest of vehicles and sends an image that wakens the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.
Logo layout MQ farms, this logo layout has actually a field integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo idea wasn’t actually produced for an Ukiah regional farm it was actually developed for a commodities broker, and this trademark was one of several which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was to produce a brand mark that projected assurance, effectiveness, and prosperity.
Logo design designed for making use of an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script typeface that is reminiscent of a famous sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have crafted quite a lot of restaurant logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking where I worked closely with the business owner to develop a logo which worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
