West Hills Logo Design

Nearly every new West Hills venture knows they are in need of a logo, yet few entrepreneurs entirely recognize the essential role their business logo will perform in their financial success, or exactly why one business logo works better than another. A logo design has an instant and long-term impact on the financial success of a company, select the right one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the wrong one and it will be an obstacle and an impediment for the longevity of a company. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help West Hills businesses succeed, they are effective in any given situation and the main reason they are so effective is that they all have these five traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require deliberation, they can be realized in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable business logo will stay legible and just as emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the enterprise they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo needs to be timeless and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.

Retro logo design of a bike developed for a West Hills coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee bar were actually launching in an older part of the town and hoped to visualize a retro tone without coming across as boring or low energy. I accomplished both of these jobs by means of developing a custom logo design that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a timeless business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide and also germs created for West Hills clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which analyzes the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare that deals with the laboratory assessment of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is really the sole instance I remember in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Typically I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents quite literally, but it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more appealing, more focus grabbing and more memorable.

logo design with a jumping green frog created for a household fun facility in West Hills.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of projects that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dental practices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the company has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to integrate a handful of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more enthusiastic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they utilized for advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I created was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo featuring a flock of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for West Hills travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I think it is a niche speciality because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but instead communicate emotional experiences through the pictures they capture. The idea behind this logo concept was to use negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they often share entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be revealed with just words. I attempted to do something comparable to this logo by making use of the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  West Hills logo design but also to reveal the depth to her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

West Hills logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of logo design projects that I take on I truly relish and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A but the client, while he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man truly disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family members didn’t share his aversion for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage all of them to share it with friends and family members as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get unbiased judgements on the value of a design. Fortunately, he shared it with his whole family and they really liked the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Business logos are a strange animal in the design world given that the people that are inclined to hire an expert to design their logo design understand how crucial a logo is for their organization so they are much more vested in the outcome. Every logo design job has it’s share of difficulties, but the largest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo in the background, design for West Hills publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin piece of real estate to work with, but it really is the most important part of a published book since it is usually the initial thing a person views in the book shop. For a publishing company, it’s the opportunity that they will likely ever get to publicize their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that buy actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with benches customized to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart yet it looks like that in many cases one of the traits folks tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller startup commuter/shuttle airline company based in LA and while I’m not sure it actually “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a good sense of airline flight and it was definitely a winner.

West Hills logo design made use of for marketing and also a tag design for Vintage Situation includes an old-fashioned font style design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be older cases. For this business logo design I attempted to come up with a logo that offered a fluid retro feel to it and could easily be utilized for anything from a website to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different generation.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in West Hills, layout include an arc with lines intersecting through it to indicate steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care business logos can easily be one of the most challenging logo design jobs because it appears that each and every dental professional incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to business marketing, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the same way dental professionals do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would likely contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I actually love doing dentistry logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a concept that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this particular design over to the customer the only smile that was evident was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a family nonprofit, the logo features 4 characters staggered in height to stand for a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be depictive of the devotion that William McNally had for the families in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be very literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution hopes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to explain precisely how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If viewers have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo that illustrates itself will never have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo design produced for a hair design studio featuring a script font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a logo design that projected a feeling of tranquility and connection for their new hair salon. I came up with a design that didn’t go the obvious course of making simply a stylized orchid but alternatively delivered a logo design which implied a flower in the formation of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the title and by putting attention on the concept with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering above the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a business logo is oftentimes the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately put the focus on the emotion that they wanted to forecast to their clients.

Arabian steed logo design produced for a steed ranch that concentrates on breeding Arabian show steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Logo design for a software program designer the layout attributes and renowned element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and hard drive operations. The kernel attaches the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a bridge in between the software and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it meant something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the significance behind a logo is equally as important as how it serves the enterprise it represents.

A logo design featuring a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly recognized the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a spot to market their pre-owned equipment to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their West Hills logo dsign with an illustration that grabs the attention of vehicles and projects an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.
Logo style MQ farms, this logo style has actually a field integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo concept wasn’t actually created for an West Hills regional farm it was really created for a products broker, and this brand was one of multiple which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was actually to develop a graphic that projected self-assurance, financial success, and wealth.
Logo design made for using an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font that is evocative a popular sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed quite a lot of restaurant logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking where I worked closely with the owner to produce a business logo that worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
