TIPS FOR FINDING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo design is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design agency offers a money back guarantee try to remember that they can’t refund the time you commit which is much more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many design firms talk a good game but in the end a design agency can only be evaluated by the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their portfolio doesn’t feature real life examples odds are they won’t be able to deliver a top quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s goal is to be understood and be unforgettable, and it’s goal is to mirror your personal vision for your company. If a logo designer is not focused on realizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how fast they can get paid.

Fort Collins LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping start ups and entrepreneurs cultivate notable brand identities. We have done brand design work for ranchers, schools, heart surgeons, wedding singers, diners, retailers, and virtually every other kind of business you can think of. What makes ImageCo unique compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as though it will be utilized as an electric sign. As a result of our sign first approach our identity designs can, and have been used in everything from clothing labels to electrical signs. Our sign first technique insures that our logos are equally reliable whether they are used in TV commercials or web apps, they are consistently identifiable, comprehended, and remembered irrespective of size or purpose.

American Made ★ Design

Something which truly sets ImageCo apart from other design firms that you might have stumbled upon in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every design project we are brought on board to do, we do in-house. Irrespective of the kind of project we take on, logo, web page, trade show display, or electric sign, we do not, and never will farm-out our client’s work to organizations based outside the USA. When you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that picks up the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that increases the price of your design project and determines the terms of how we do business.

ASPECTS OF AN EFFECTIVE LOGO DESIGN

Virtually every new Fort Collins company realizes that they need a logo, however few start-ups entirely realize the vital role their logo will make in their financial success, or why one logo functions better than another. A logo design has an immediate and lasting effect on the growth of a company, select the correct one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, choose the wrong one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of an organization. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Fort Collins businesses succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not require deliberation, they can be grasped in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from label to billboards a scalable logo design will continue to be legible and just as emotive at virtually any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the item or business they represent.
  5. Relevance: a company logo should be timeless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from now.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s a verb and a noun, it is an identifying mark and also the process of denoting something so that it can be recognized, its genesis originates from the mark branded onto animals. Today a brand signifies basically anything with a motive, whether it be profit or government agencies, a brand is an innate aspect of specifying the worth of a specific thing in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like advertising and marketing’s attractive sister, they are each from the very same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising have to do with making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest aimed at a target market, it’s objective is to produce a mental image that the audience will identify with.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated through advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When someone mentions the brand names Porsche or Mustang what we think of is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and that is what makes individuals purchase those brands. Brand image is why individuals buy specific brands, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Firms – If you reflect on the beginning of many branding companies you’ll discover that they are frequently rebranded marketing firms. When a person states they are in marketing many people will likely have an idea about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or listened to are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a designer that specializes in a kind of visual design that helps shape the perception of a business, a product or an institution. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, sign designs, product packaging, and also collateral material such as cards, stationery, and brochures. Some visual designers also develop web sites and user interfaces. The necessary function of a brand identity designer is to establish the visual cues as well as a psychological tone with the objective of affecting actions, end results and perceptions.

Featured logos & signs

Retro logo style of a bicycle created for a Fort Collins coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffeehouse were launching in an old section of the city and really wanted to visualize a nostalgic tone without appearing as uninteresting or low energy. I accomplished both tasks via designing a symbol design that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a timeless business image.

medical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide and also bacteria made for Fort Collins medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that examines the causes and consequences of diseases, especially the field of healthcare that works with the laboratory assessment of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the only instance I recall in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Normally I try not to be extremely literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents quite literally, yet it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more appealing, more attention grabbing and more meaningful.

logo design with a jumping green frog developed for a household fun center in Fort Collins.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dental experts, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the title of the company has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to incorporate a some springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a better dynamic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they utilized for marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, and a tree - made for Fort Collins traveling photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche area because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but instead convey emotional experiences by means of the pictures they capture. The idea behind this logo design was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they frequently share whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness which can’t be communicated with just words. I tried to do something the same to this logo by making use of the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Fort Collins logo design but also to show the depth of her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Fort Collins logo design with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of business logo design projects that I take on I seriously savor and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A but the client, while he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man really disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family did not share his hatred for this specific kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I urge all of them to share it with colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get unprejudiced opinions on the merit of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family and they really loved the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Business logos are a weird creature in the design world because the people that tend to hire an expert to create their logo understand how essential a logo is for their organization so they are way more invested in the result. Every logo project has it’s share of hurdles, however the most significant obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Fort Collins book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped slice of real estate to work with, but it is the most vital part of a published book because it is in most cases the very first thing a person sees in the book store. With respect to a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will likely ever get to advertise their product and get their logo design in front of the men and women that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design made for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with benches modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart yet it seems that in many occurrences 1 of the things consumers usually tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller start-up commuter/shuttle airline company based in LA and while I’m not certain it actually “took off” their business logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to conferring a good sense of airline flight and it was surely a victory.

Fort Collins logo style utilized for advertising and marketing and also a tag layout for Vintage Case includes an old-fashioned font style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand-new cases for musical instruments, which looked to be much older cases. For this business logo design I sought to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could easily be used for everything from a website to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different era.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in Fort Collins, style include an arc with lines intersecting with it to indicate metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logos can be one of the most difficult logo design jobs due to the fact that it seems that virtually every dental professional incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business branding, if dining establishments approached their branding in the very same way dental practitioners do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would most likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I really enjoy doing dental logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular field of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo design includes 4 characters staggered in height to represent a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be illustrative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people residing in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wants to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a logo that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to explain exactly how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If you have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo that illustrates itself will never have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo style developed for a Fort Collins hair layout workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird as well as a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a business logo which carried a spirit of simplicity and class for their new hair salon. I created a concept that didn’t go the obvious direction of creating simply a stylized orchid but rather crafted a logo that implied a flower in the formation of a swirl incorporated into the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept using the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is frequently the wrong path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately put the emphasis on the emotion that they really wanted to project to their patrons.

Arabian steed logo style created for a steed ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian program steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo crafted a distinct custom logo design tailored to illustrate the unique physical traits of the Arabian breed of horses. With a distinctive head shape and higher tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the very most easily recognizable horse lineages in the whole world.

Las Coffee shop logo style a tiny restaurant, style contains a customized manuscript typeface which hovers above a team of elaborate lines as well as dots.

Logo design for a software program developer the layout attributes and also renowned Fort Collins element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and drive managing. The kernel unites the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a bridge in between the software program and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it intimated something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the significance supporting a company logo is equally as important as how it brands the business it stands for.

Progress logo design produced for a Fort Collinsindoor designer, layout attribute a collection of red circles that converge and change the letter O in the middle of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

logo style done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Fort Collins, the personalities for letter V and also A in middle of the word advanced have been changed to tie directly right into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Fort Collins logo design assignment was performed for a leadership guide that enables business professionals to develop into more successful at handling people, expectations, and profitability.

A Fort Collins business logo style featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly knew the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting store that functions as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a place to sell off their secondhand items to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Fort Collins business logo design using an illustration that garners the interest of traffic and projects an image that wakens the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.

Logo design MQ farms, this Fort Collins company logo layout has an area included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand concept wasn’t actually designed for an Fort Collins regional farm it was actually created for a commodities broker, and this particular company was one of many which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to produce an identity that projects self-assurance, effectiveness, and luxury.

Fort Collins Logo design for a not-for-profit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo design feature for outwardly encountering arrowhead as well as the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what type of logo design they preferred, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the opportunity to delve into any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye in the absence of recognizing where the target is. Fortunately, in this particular case, I struck a bullseye with the first try.

Logo design developed for making use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript font style that is evocative a renowned Fort Collins sporting activities team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created dozens of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project in which I worked closely with the business owner to produce a business logo which worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
