TIPS ON PICKING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A business logo is an investment in both your time and your money so anytime a design firm offers a money back guarantee try to remember that they can’t reimburse the time you commit which is much more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some design firms talk a good game but in the end a design firm can only be evaluated by the quality of their design work, if the work in their design portfolio doesn’t contain real world samples chances are they won’t be able to deliver a premium logo design.

VISION

A logo’s objective is to be recognized and remembered, and it’s objective is to mirror your personal vision for your company. If a designer isn’t focused on fulfilling your vision, the thing they are really focused on is how fast they can get paid.

Security-Widefield LOGO DESIGN

For over twenty years ImageCo has been helping small business owners cultivate unforgettable brand identities. We’ve done branding work for builders, schools, diamond miners, wedding singers, coffee shops, retailers, and just about every other kind of business you can envision. What makes ImageCo different compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as though it will be used as an electric sign. Because of our sign first technique our logo designs can, and have been employed in everything from clothing labels to billboards. Our sign first approach ensures that our logo designs are equally successful whether they are used in television commercials or website headers, they are consistently recognizable, comprehended, and remembered regardless of size or use.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference which really sets ImageCo apart from many of the design firms that you might have come across in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every design project we are enlisted to perform, we do ourselves. Regardless of the kind of design project we accept, business logo, web site, trade show exhibit, or electric sign, we do not, and never will farm out our client’s projects to companies located outside the US. Whenever you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that marks up the price of your design project and dictates the conditions of how my customers and I do business.

ASPECTS OF A POWERFUL LOGO DESIGN

It’s likely that every new Security-Widefield organization understands that they need a logo, however few start-ups entirely understand the pivotal role their business logo can perform in their financial success, or exactly why one business logo works far better than another. A business logo has a critical and lasting effect on the financial success of a company, pick the correct one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, choose the incorrect one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of a business. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Security-Widefield businesses succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require consideration, they can be grasped in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo will continue to be legible and equally emotive at virtually any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the item or organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a company logo needs to be timeless and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from now.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s both a verb as well as a noun, it is an identifying mark and also the process of marking something so that it can be distinguished, its genesis comes from the mark branded onto animals. These days a brand indicates practically anything with an objective, whether it be revenue or political parties, a brand is an innate aspect of specifying the worth of something in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like marketing and advertising’s sexy cousin, they are each from the exact same family, the difference being that marketing and advertising have to do with making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity competition aimed at a target audience, it’s goal is to create a mental image that the audience will relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated by advertising and marketing and identity design. When a person states the brand names Ferrari or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, beauty, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and brand image is what makes people buy those products. Brand image is why individuals get most things, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Agencies – If you look back at the history of many branding firms you’ll find that they are often re-branded marketing and advertising agencies. When someone states they are in advertising and marketing most individuals will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, touched or listened to are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a graphic designer that specializes in a type of visual design which helps form the image of a company, a product or a company. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, sign designs, packaging, and also collateral material such as business cards, stationery, and pamphlets. Some identity designers also build websites and user interfaces. The crucial role of a brand identity designer is to establish the visual cues and a psychological tone with the goal of affecting actions, results as well as assumptions.

Featured signs/logos

Retro logo layout of a bike developed for a Security-Widefield coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and bistro were opening in an older section of the town and wanted to cast an old-fashioned atmosphere without appearing as uninteresting or low energy. I accomplished each of the jobs via creating a company logo design that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo layout with a microscope slide and germs developed for Security-Widefield clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which researches the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare which works with the laboratory examination of samplings of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is the only instance I call to mind where I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, yet it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that makes it more interesting, more attention grabbing and even more memorable.

logo layout with a jumping green frog created for a family enjoyable facility in Security-Widefield.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the sorts of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental professionals, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the business has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to integrate a few springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a much more lively high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - created for Security-Widefield travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche speciality due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to capture places or things but rather communicate emotional journeys by means of the pictures they record. The idea behind this logo design was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of almost all professional photographers in that they frequently convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be communicated with mere words. I attempted to do something much the same to this logo design by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Security-Widefield logo but also to reveal the depth to her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Security-Widefield logo layout with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of custom logo design jobs that I take on I genuinely relish and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however my client, even though he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular guy really despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family did not share his aversion for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I encourage them to discuss it with colleagues and family members as well as with folks that they don’t actually know so as to get objective judgements on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his whole family and they really liked the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logos are a strange animal in the design world because the people that tend to hire an expert to create their logo understand how important a logo design is for their company so they are way more vested in the end result. Every logo design project possesses it’s share of difficulties, however the biggest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Security-Widefield book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped piece of real estate to work with, but it really is the most essential part of a printed book because it is ordinarily the first thing a person views in the book shop. For a publisher, it’s the absolute best opportunity they will ever have to advertise their brand and get their logo design in front of the men and women that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo designed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with the bars changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go yet it looks like that in many occurrences 1 of the items people often tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest start-up commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to imparting a spirit of flight and it was surely a success.

Security-Widefield logo layout used for advertising and a label design for Vintage Situation includes an archaic font layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be much older cases. For this custom logo concept I sought to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be utilized for anything from a website to an insignia on brand new cases that looked like they were from a different point in time.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Security-Widefield, design consist of an arc with lines converging with it to suggest metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design jobs because it seems that almost every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business branding, if dining establishments approached their branding in the same way dental offices do every one of their logo designs would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably have an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really enjoy doing dental care business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and subsequently I created a layout that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was evident was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a family not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 characters staggered in height to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be illustrative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people residing in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization hopes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a logo which communicated that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to illustrate precisely how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If people have to ponder a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that illustrates itself won’t have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo style developed for a Security-Widefield hair design workshop including a script font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a business logo that related a feeling of simplicity and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a design which did not go the obvious direction of making simply a stylized orchid but instead created a company logo which implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl incorporated into the letter O in the title and by placing attention on the concept with the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is oftentimes the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead laid the main focus on the emotion that they wanted to forecast to their clients.

Arabian horse logo style created for a horse ranch that focuses on reproducing Arabian show steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo created a unique business logo design customized to illustrate the unique physical traits of the Arabian breed of equines. By having a different head shape and higher tail posture, the Arabian is one of the most quite easily recognizable equine breeds in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Security-Widefield restaurant logo design a small dining establishment, layout includes a modified script typeface which floats over a team of ornate lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a small restaurant, layout includes a customized manuscript font style which hovers over a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Logo style for a software application designer the layout functions and iconic Security-Widefield component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and hard drive managing. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a connection between the software and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it intimated something to the owner of the business and in quite a few cases the significance supporting a logo design is equally as important as how it brands the organization it represents.

Develop logo design developed for a Security-Widefieldinterior developer, design function a series of red circles that converge and replace the letter O in the center of the logo design.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Security-Widefield interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is somebody who prepares, researches, collaborates, and oversees such ventures. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that involves conceptual development, area planning, site evaluations, programming, research, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction management, and execution of the design.

logo design done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Security-Widefield, the personalities for letter V as well as A in middle of words advanced have actually been customized to connect directly right into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Security-Widefield logo design assignment was performed for a leadership specialist that helps business leaders to become more efficient at managing people, expectations, and productivity.

A Security-Widefield business logo layout featuring a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly knew the market was primed for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, angling or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a place to sell off their used goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Security-Widefield logo design design along with an image that grabs the attention of traffic and sends an image that calls to mind the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo design MQ ranches, this Security-Widefield company logo layout has actually an area incorporated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms business logo idea wasn’t actually created for an Security-Widefield area farm it was really developed for an investments broker, and this company logo was one of a handful of that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was to design a brand mark that projects self-confidence, financial success, and prosperity.

Security-Widefield Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo layout feature for outwardly facing arrowhead as well as the arrowheads imply that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design they would like, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the liberty to investigate any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye without realizing where the target is. Luckily, in this particular case, I nailed a bullseye with the very first shot.

Logo developed for making use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript typeface that is evocative a renowned Security-Widefield sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted dozens of restaurant logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project in which I worked closely with the owner to develop a business logo that worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
