Darien, Connecticut Logo Design

Every new Darien venture understands that they need a logo, however few new business owners fully understand the pivotal role their logo design will take in their success, or the reason that one business logo performs better than another. A business logo has an immediate and sustaining influence on the success of a company, go with the correct one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, choose the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of a business.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Darien, Connecticut businesses prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these five features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t demand scrutiny, they can be understood in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable business logo will be legible and equally emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the organization they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a company logo should be lasting and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo design of a bike produced for a Darien, Connecticut coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and cafe were actually launching in an old part of the town and wished to project an old-fashioned feel without coming across as boring or low energy. I accomplished each of the jobs via designing a trademark design that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a enduring business image.

medical logo design with a microscope slide and bacteria designed for Darien, Connecticut clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which studies the root causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare that deals with the clinical examination of samplings of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the only instance I remember in which I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Generally I attempt not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it serves quite literally, yet it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that helps make it more intriguing, more interest grabbing and much more unforgettable.

logo layout with a jumping green frog designed for a household fun center in Darien, Connecticut.

Cool Springs | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of projects which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental offices, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to incorporate a some springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not actually reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a much more enthusiastic high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they utilized for marketing and advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a flock of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, as well as a tree - created for Darien, Connecticut traveling photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche field because travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead project emotional journeys by means of the pictures they capture. The idea behind this logo design was to utilize negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is representative of the majority of good photographers in that they frequently convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be conveyed with just words. I tried to do something the same to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Darien logo design but also to illustrate the depth to her work and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Darien logo layout with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design projects that I take on I truly take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A but my customer, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man seriously disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family members did not share his hatred for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I urge all of them to share it with colleagues and family members as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get impartial assessments on the merit of a concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his whole family and they loved the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Business logos are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire an expert to design their business logo recognize how vital a logo design is for their company so they are way more invested in the result. Every logo design project has it’s allotment of hurdles, but the largest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Darien, Connecticut publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow segment of real estate to work with, but it really is the most critical part of a printed book given that it is usually the initial thing a person views in the bookstore. With regard to a publisher, it’s the best opportunity they will ever have to advertise their brand and get their logo design in front of the men and women that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with benches modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart nevertheless it looks like that in many instances one of the traits individuals usually tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest start-up commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to imparting a good sense of flight and it was definitely a victory.

Darien logo design utilized for marketing as well as a label design for Vintage Situation features an archaic font layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be much older cases. For this custom logo concept I strove to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could be utilized for everything from a website to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from another era.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Darien, Connecticut, design include an arc with lines converging with it to suggest steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry business logos can easily be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design projects considering that it appears that virtually every dental professional features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business marketing, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the same way dental practitioners do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I actually enjoy doing dental logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain field of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a layout that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular design over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design developed for a household not-for-profit, the logo design includes 4 personalities surprised in height to stand for a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the families in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be very literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution hopes to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a logo design which communicated that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The objective of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to explain specifically how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If viewers have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo design that illustrates itself will never have the opportunity to be understood.

Logo style developed for a hair layout studio including a script font a hummingbird as well as a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo which conveyed a sense of contentment and class for their new hair studio. I created a design which didn’t go the obvious route of creating simply a stylized orchid but rather delivered a logo that suggested a flower in the formation of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the logo design with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating above the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a logo is in most cases the wrong path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately placed the main focus on the perception that they really wanted to forecast to their clients.

Las Coffee shop logo layout a little dining establishment, layout contains a changed manuscript typeface which floats above a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Logo style for a software application developer the layout attributes as well as iconic component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and drive management. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a bridge between the software and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it represented something to the business owner of the business and in quite a few cases the substance behind a logo design is equally as important as how it serves the organization it stands for.

A logo design including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly knew the market was ready for an outdoor sporting store that functions as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a spot to sell their pre-owned equipment to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Darien business logo dsign along with an illustration which grabs the interest of traffic and projects an image that invokes the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.
Logo design MQ farms, this logo layout has a field included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo design wasn’t really produced for an Darien, Connecticut regional farm it was really developed for a commodities broker, and this particular company was one of many which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was actually to design an identity that projected assurance, effectiveness, and prosperity.

Darien Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo style feature for ostensibly facing arrow and also the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what type of logo design they wanted, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the opportunity to investigate any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye without knowing where the target is. Luckily, in this particular case, I struck a bullseye with the very first shot.

Logo created for making use of a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript font style that is reminiscent of a famous sports team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created quite a lot of restaurant custom logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great undertaking where I worked directly with the business owner to create a logo design that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
