Memorable Logos That Tell Stories and Connect Emotionally

Designing a brand identity or a custom logo design that is both memorable and tells the story of who you are or what you actually do is a massive endeavor. The challenge is to create a logo design that is simplistic enough to be comprehended at a glimpse and imparts enough information that it can express who you are. However no logo design can absolutely tell your story or explain your organization, and travelling down that road often produces a logo design that accomplishes neither. But, in skillful hands, it is quite possible to strike a balance between both and create a brand identity that both informs and emotes and reaching that sweet spot is what your business should hope for from their logo designer.

ImageCo is one person, Tim Garner, I am a freelance branding specialist. For over twenty years I ‘ve been creating unforgettable logos and brand identity designs that tell stories and resonate with audiences. But don’t take my word for it, check out my logo portfolio and see for yourself. I do not assert that I’m the best brand identity designer in the world, but, I do know what Iam doing and my customers are inclined to agree.

A LOGO IS NOT YOUR BRAND

The expression “your logo is not your brand” is a statement that is often stated with such vehemence by people operating in the branding industry, that one ought to wonder why so many people in branding agencies dislike logos as much as they appear to. It is quite true that your logo is not your business’s brand, but what does that mean for a brand that has no logo? One thing is quite certain, it ensures that a brand with no logo will be faceless and easily forgotten.

Without a visual identity, an organization’s brand is no more than a fading memory because people would have virtually nothing to anchor their brand experiences too.

Some people compare a logo to a smile or a handshake which is somewhat accurate, however it’s actually much more than that. A logo is a brand’s anchor and it also functions as the cornerstone of a business’s brand. A logo acts as an anchor because the entire brand experience is secured to it. It is also a brand’s cornerstone, since a cornerstone is the first stone laid when constructing the foundation of the structure above it, and once it is laid it will be the guiding reference point for every thing that comes after it. A logo functions in the same way, it is a foundational building block that supports the business it represents, and it also serves as a reference point that helps guide a brand as it develops.

ImageCo is a visual branding agency and our objective is to help our clients lay that cornerstone as well as set that anchor. We help companies look established, more polished, and more professional. This helps ensure that our clients will always be considered, and are not only deserving of a seat at the table, but look like they ought to be seated at the head of that table.

East Norwalk LOGO DESIGN

For over 2 decades ImageCo has been helping start ups and entrepreneurs grow unforgettable brands. We’ve done brand design work for mechanics, educational institutions, heart surgeons, party planners, restaurants, retailers, and virtually every other kind of business concern you can envision. What makes ImageCo different compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as though it will be employed as an electric sign. Because of our sign first technique our brand identity designs can, and have been employed in everything from fashion labels to billboards. Our sign first method ensures that our logos are equally successful whether they are used in television commercials or website apps, they are consistently identifiable, comprehended, and remembered regardless of scale or use.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference which truly sets ImageCo apart from other design firms that you might have found in Google’s search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every design project we are enlisted to do, we do in-house. Irrespective of the type of project we undertake, brand identity design, website design, trade show display, or retail sign, we do not, and never will job out our client’s projects to companies based outside the United States. Whenever you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that picks up the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that increases the cost of your design project and imposes the terms of how we conduct business.

ASPECTS OF A POWERFUL LOGO DESIGN

It’s likely that every new East Norwalk organization realizes that they require a logo, yet few start ups fully realize the essential role their logo design can perform in their financial success, or why one business logo performs better than another. A logo design has an immediate and long-term impact on the prosperity of a company, select the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, go with the wrong one and it will be an obstacle and an impediment for the life of a company.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help East Norwalk companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 things in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t need consideration, they can be grasped in just a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from label to billboards a scalable logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at every dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the product or organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo must be enduring and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from today.

understanding branding

Brand – It is both a verb as well as a noun, it’s an identifying mark as well as the act of marking something to make sure that it can be recognized, its origin originates from the mark branded onto animals. Nowadays a brand signifies pretty much anything with a motive, regardless if it be earnings or political parties, a brand is an innate aspect of specifying the value of a specific thing in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like advertising and marketing’s attractive cousin, they are both from the same family, the difference being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity competition targeted at a target market, it’s objective is to create an image that the target market will relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured through advertising and marketing and also identity design. When somebody says the names Lamborghini or Corvette what we think about is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and that is what makes people purchase those brands. Brand image is why people purchase specific brands, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can identify with.

Branding Companies – If you reflect on the history of a lot of branding agencies you’ll find that they are frequently re-branded marketing and advertising firms. When someone states they are in advertising the majority of people will likely have a preconceived notion about what they do. But when a person says “I’m in branding”… it simply seems more attractive, maybe it’s because lots of people don’t recognize what it suggests to be in branding so it comes off as more mysterious and maybe even sexy.

Brand Identity – Is an inclusive term that describes the visual elements of a product or agency that affect understandings. This mainly consists of the name, the logo, the product packaging, the different colors used yet can also include sound, lighting, texture, signs, actually anything that can be seen, felt or heard are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a kind of visual design which helps shape the perception of a company, a product or a business. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, packaging, and collateral products such as cards, stationery, as well as brochures. Some visual designers also build web sites and also user interfaces. The essential duty of a brand identity designer is to establish the visual cues and a psychological tone with the objective of affecting actions, outcomes as well as understandings.

select SIGNS & LOGOS

Retro logo design of a bike produced for a East Norwalk coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffee bar were actually opening up in an old section of the area and wanted to visualize a retro atmosphere without coming across as boring or low energy. I achieved each of the tasks by developing a company logo concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo design with a microscopic lense slide and bacteria developed for East Norwalk medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that researches the root causes and outcomes of diseases, especially the field of healthcare which works with the clinical examination of samples of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I recall where I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Typically I try not to be extremely literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents fairly literally, yet it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that makes it more intriguing, more attention grabbing and more meaningful.

logo design with a jumping eco-friendly frog designed for a household fun facility in East Norwalk.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental offices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the business has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to include a few springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more enthusiastic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for advertising and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a group of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - developed for East Norwalk travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche speciality due to the fact that travel photographers don’t shoot locations or things but instead reveal emotional experiences through the photos they capture. The thought behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to project more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of almost all good photographers in that they oftentimes tell whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be conveyed with mere words. I attempted to do something the same to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  East Norwalk logo design but also to show the depth of her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

East Norwalk logo style with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design jobs that I take on I really savor and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A however my customer, even though he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This guy really despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family didn’t share his hatred for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage them to discuss it with colleagues and family as well as with individuals that they don’t even know so as to get unbiased judgements on the merit of a design concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family and they really liked the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logos are a strange creature in the design world given that the people that tend to hire an expert to create their logo design understand how vital a logo is for their company so they are much more vested in the final result. Every logo design project has it’s share of hurdles, but the most significant obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo in the background, style for East Norwalk book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender piece of real estate to work with, however it really is the most important part of a printed book considering that it is in most cases the initial thing a person sees in the bookstore. With respect to a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity they will likely ever get to promote their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with benches customized to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart nevertheless it seems like that in many instances one of the things people usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young new venture commuter/shuttle airline company located in LA and although I’m not sure it actually “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a feeling of air travel and it was definitely a success.

East Norwalk logo layout utilized for marketing and also a tag design for Vintage Case includes an old font layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand new cases for musical instruments, which looked to be antique cases. For this business logo design I strove to come up with a logo that offered a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could be used for anything from a web site to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different generation.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in East Norwalk, style include an arc with lines intersecting via it to imply metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can easily be one of the most difficult logo design jobs considering that it seems that every single dentist features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business advertising, if dining establishments approached their branding in the very same way dental professionals do every one of their logo designs would be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I really enjoy doing dentistry logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this particular design over to the client the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design created for a household not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 personalities startled in elevation to stand for a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the families in his city. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be very literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wishes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a logo which conveyed that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to explain specifically how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If viewers have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that explains itself won’t have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo layout produced for a East Norwalk hair layout studio including a script font a hummingbird and an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design that related a sense of contentment and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a design that did not go the obvious path of creating just a stylized orchid but rather designed a company logo that implied a flower in the formation of a swirl integrated in to the letter O in the name and by putting emphasis on the logo design using the figure of a hummingbird floating over the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is frequently the wrong path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead placed the attention on the feeling that they really wanted to forecast to their customers.

Arabian equine logo style created for an equine ranch that focuses on breeding Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo created a distinct logo design tailored to illustrate the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of equines. With a distinctive head shape and higher tail posture, the Arabian is one of the very most easily identifiable equine lineages in the world.

Las Cafe, A East Norwalk Coffee shop logo layout a little restaurant, layout consists of a changed script typeface which hovers over a team of ornate lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a tiny dining establishment, layout contains a changed manuscript typeface which floats above a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Logo style for a software application programmer the design functions and iconic East Norwalk aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and disk managing. The kernel attaches the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a bridge in between the software and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it symbolized something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the significance supporting a logo is just as important as how it serves the enterprise it stands for.

Progress logo style produced for a East Norwalkinterior developer, layout function a collection of red circles that converge and also replace the letter O in the middle of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a East Norwalk interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is a person who prepares, explores, coordinates, and oversees such tasks. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, site evaluations, programming, investigation, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction management, and execution of the design.

logo style done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in East Norwalk, the characters for letter V as well as A in middle of the word advanced have actually been modified to link directly right into words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular East Norwalk logo design assignment was performed for a leadership expert that aids business professionals to become more efficient at supervising people, expectations, and profitability.

A East Norwalk business logo style featuring an angler in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly realized the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting retailer that operates as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, angling or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a spot to sell their secondhand products to other sports enthusiasts.

I created their East Norwalk logo design design using a graphic that garners the interest of vehicles and sends an image that wakens the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo design MQ farms, this East Norwalk company logo layout has an area integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo design wasn’t really composed for an East Norwalk regional farm it was in reality developed for a products broker, and this creative logo was one of a handful of which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to make a brand mark that projects assurance, success, and prosperity.

East Norwalk Logo design for a not-for-profit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo layout function for externally facing arrowhead and also the arrowheads imply that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design that they desired, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the liberty to discover any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye without knowing where the target is. Fortunately, in this particular instance, I hit a bullseye with the first go.

Logo created for making use of a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font style that is similar to a popular East Norwalk sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed dozens of restaurant business logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked closely with the owner to create a logo design which worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
