Memorable Logos That Tell Stories and Connect Emotionally

Creating a brand identity or a custom logo design that is both unforgettable and tells the story about who you are or what you actually do is a significant undertaking. The difficulty is to make a design concept that is simple enough to be understood at a glance and imparts enough information that it can articulate who you are. But no logo can totally tell your story or explain your business, and moving down that road frequently produces a brand identity design that performs neither. However, in skillful hands, it is quite possible to strike a balance between the two and create a logo that both informs and emotes and reaching that sweet spot is what every business should hope for from their brand identity designer.

ImageCo is one person, Tim Garner, I am an independent branding specialist. For over two decades I ‘ve been creating memorable logos and brand identity designs that tell stories and resonate with clients. But don’t take my word for it, check out my work and see for yourself. I do not claim that I am the best brand identity designer in the world, however, I do know what Iam doing and my customers are inclined to agree.

A LOGO IS NOT YOUR BRAND

The expression “your logo is not your brand” is a statement that is often stated with such emphasis by individuals working in the branding sector, that a person has to wonder why so many people in branding companies hate logos as much as they appear to. It is definitely true that your logo is not your brand, however what does that mean for a brand that has no logo? One thing is quite certain, it all but guarantees that a brand with no logo will be faceless and quickly forgotten.

Without a visual identity, a company’s brand is nothing more than a fading memory because people would have virtually nothing to anchor their experiences too.

Some compare a business’s logo to a smile or a handshake which is slightly true, however it’s actually much more than that. A logo is a brand’s anchor and it also functions as the cornerstone of a business’s brand image. A logo functions as an anchor because the entire brand experience is anchored to it. It is also a brand’s cornerstone, since a cornerstone is the first stone placed when constructing the foundation of the structure above it, and once it is laid it will be the guiding reference point for every building block that comes after it. A logo serves in the same way, it is a foundational building block that supports the business it represents, and it also serves as a reference that helps guide a brand as it expands.

ImageCo is a brand identity firm and our objective is to help our clients lay that cornerstone as well as set that anchor. We help organizations look well established, more polished, and more experienced. This helps ensure that our clients will always be taken seriously, and are not only worthy of a seat at the table, but look like they ought to be seated at the head of that table.

Manchester LOGO DESIGN

For over twenty years ImageCo has been helping small business owners cultivate memorable brands. We have performed logo design work for mechanics, colleges, diamond miners, wedding singers, cafes, retailers, and just about every other kind of business concern you can envision. What makes us different compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as though it will be utilized as an electrical sign. Because of our sign first approach our designs can, and have been utilized in everything from garment labels to billboards. Our sign first approach guarantees that our logo designs are just as effective whether they are used in TV commercials or web headers, they are consistently identifiable, comprehended, and always remembered irrespective of scale or application.

American Made ★ Design

The thing that truly sets ImageCo apart from other design firms that you may have come across in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every design project we are hired to perform, we perform in-house. Irrespective of the type of design project we undertake, logo, website design, trade show exhibit, or retail sign, we do not, and never will job-out our customer’s projects to contractors based outside the USA. Whenever you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the individual that answers the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a go-between that increases the cost of your design project and determines the conditions of how we conduct business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF AN EFFECTIVE LOGO DESIGN

It’s likely that every new Manchester company realizes that they require a logo, however few new business owners fully recognize the key role their organization’s logo will perform in their becoming successful, or why one logo functions more effectively than another. A logo design has an instant and long term effect on the success of a business, select the right one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the wrong one and it can be an obstacle and an impediment for the longevity of a company.

The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Manchester companies prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not require scrutiny, they can be grasped in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from label to store signs a scalable business logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at every size.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the product or company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo must be lasting and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from now.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s both a verb and a noun, it’s an identifying mark and also the act of denoting something so that it can be identified, its foundation originates from the brand burned onto animals. Today a brand represents pretty much anything with an intention, regardless if it be profit or political parties, a brand is an innate aspect of specifying the value of a specific thing in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like advertising and marketing’s sexy sister, they are both from the exact same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity competition targeted at a specific audience, it’s objective is to develop an image that the audience will connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured by advertising and marketing and identity design. When a person says the names Lamborghini or Mustang what we think of is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of an automobile with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and brand image is what makes people purchase those products. Brand image is why individuals get most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can identify with.

Branding Companies – If you reflect on the origin of a lot of branding companies you’ll find that they are often re-branded marketing and advertising agencies. When somebody states they are in advertising lots of people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, touched or listened to belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a designer that concentrates on a type of visual design which helps shape the image of a business, a product or a company. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, packaging, as well as collateral products such as cards, stationery, and also sales brochures. Some identity designers also develop websites as well as software interfaces. The crucial role of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues as well as an emotional tone with the objective of affecting actions, results and perceptions.

Featured logos & signs

Retro logo layout of a bicycle created for a Manchester coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffee shop were actually launching in an older part of the community and really wanted to project a vintage vibe without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I achieved both of these jobs by developing a business logo design that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a timeless business image.

medical logo design with a microscope slide and bacteria made for Manchester clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which analyzes the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of medicine that works with the laboratory examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I call to mind in which I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Generally I attempt not to be excessively literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it serves quite literally, but it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that makes it more intriguing, more focus grabbing and more memorable.

logo layout with a jumping environment-friendly frog designed for a household enjoyable facility in Manchester.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dental offices, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the title of the business has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to incorporate a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t really reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a much more enthusiastic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for marketing and advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I created was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - created for Manchester traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche sector because travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but rather project emotional journeys through the images they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to use negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of most professional photographers in that they frequently tell whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness which can’t be conveyed with mere words. I made an effort to do something comparable to this logo design by making use of the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Manchester logo design but also to illustrate the depth in her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Manchester logo design with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I truly take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A but the client, while he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man really loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members didn’t share his scorn for this specific kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge all of them to talk about it with friends and family as well as with other people that they don’t even know so as to get objective assessments on the worthiness of a design. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family members and they adored the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Logos are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that are inclined to hire an expert to design their business logo comprehend how important a logo design is for their organization so they are much more vested in the result. Every logo design job has it’s share of difficulties, however the most significant obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Manchester book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped segment of real estate to work with, but it is the most crucial part of a published book given that it is ordinarily the first thing a person sees in the book shop. With respect to a publisher, it’s the most ideal opportunity they will ever get to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the people that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with the bars changed to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart yet it looks like that in many occurrences 1 of the items people usually tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller startup commuter/shuttle air service situated in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to affording a spirit of flight and it was definitely a success.

Manchester logo design made use of for advertising and marketing and also a label design for Vintage Instance includes an old-fashioned font style layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be older cases. For this logo design I tried to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid retro feel to it and could be used for anything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that looked like they were from another generation.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Manchester, layout include an arc with lines intersecting with it to suggest metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can be one of the most difficult logo jobs considering that it appears that every dentist features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to business advertising, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dental professionals do every one of their logo designs would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I really enjoy doing dentistry logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and eventually I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a household not-for-profit, the logo features 4 personalities startled in height to represent a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the families in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be far too literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution hopes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo design which communicated that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to summarize precisely how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If people have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo that describes itself won’t have the chance to be understood.

Logo layout produced for a Manchester hair design workshop featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo design that projected a spirit of simplicity and elegance for their new hair studio. I came up with a concept that did not go the obvious path of crafting simply a stylized orchid but alternatively created a company logo which implied a flower in the formation of a swirl blended into the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the logo design with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a logo is generally the wrong route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead put the main focus on the feeling that they wanted to forecast to their customers.

Arabian horse logo design created for an equine cattle ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian program steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed a distinct logo concept styled to exemplify the unique physical traits of the Arabian type of horses. With a distinctive head form and higher tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most quite easily recognizable horse types in the whole world.

Las Cafe, A Manchester Coffee shop logo layout a tiny dining establishment, layout includes a modified script typeface which hovers over a team of luxuriant lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo layout a small dining establishment, layout includes a customized script font which hovers over a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Logo layout for a software application developer the layout attributes as well as famous Manchester component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and disk operations. The kernel connects the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a bridge between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it intimated something to the owner of the company and in many cases the substance behind a logo is equally as important as how it brands the enterprise it stands for.

Advance logo layout created for a Manchesterinterior developer, layout attribute a collection of red circles that intersect and also change the letter O in the middle of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Manchester interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. logo design done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Manchester, the personalities for letter V as well as A in center of words advanced have been changed to tie straight into words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Manchester logo design job was undertaken for a leadership specialist that aids business professionals to develop into more efficient at handling people, expectations, and profitability.

A Manchester business logo style featuring a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly knew the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a spot to market their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Manchester business logo design along with a graphic that garners the interest of vehicles and projects an image that arouses the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo style MQ ranches, this Manchester company logo design has actually an area incorporated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo design wasn’t actually composed for an Manchester area farm it was in reality devised for a products broker, and this particular business logo was one of many which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was to make an identity that projected esteem, financial success, and wealth.

Manchester Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo design feature for ostensibly encountering arrow and also the arrowheads indicate that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design that they wanted, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the opportunity to investigate any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye in the absence of recognizing where exactly the target is. Luckily, in this particular case, I hit a bullseye with the 1st go.

Logo made for the use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript font style that is evocative a famous Manchester sports team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed dozens of restaurant logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project in which I worked directly with the proprietor to create a logo design that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
