North Haven, Connecticut Logo Design

Virtually every new North Haven organization understands that they need a logo, however few entrepreneurs fully realize the essential role their organization’s logo will perform in their success, or exactly why one business logo functions far better than another. A logo has an immediate and sustaining effect on the financial success of a company, pick the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, select the wrong one and it can be an obstacle and a hindrance for the life of an organization.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help North Haven, Connecticut businesses prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these five traits in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t demand contemplation, they can be comprehended in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from labels to signboards a scalable business logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the business they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a logo design needs to be ageless and will feel as relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from today.
Retro logo style of a bike created for a North Haven, Connecticut coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee shop were actually opening in an older section of the town and wished to project a nostalgic vibe without coming across as boring or low energy. I fulfilled each of the jobs by developing a trademark design that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a timeless business image.

clinical logo style with a microscopic lense slide and bacteria developed for North Haven, Connecticut clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that examines the triggers and outcomes of diseases, especially the field of healthcare which deals with the laboratory evaluation of specimens of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I remember where I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Normally I attempt not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it serves very literally, but it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that helps make it more intriguing, more attention grabbing and even more meaningful.

logo layout with a leaping green frog created for a family enjoyable facility in North Haven, Connecticut.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the kinds of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dentists, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to feature a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a more lively high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they utilized for promotion and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was turned into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a group of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, and a tree - developed for North Haven, Connecticut traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather niche field of photography and I think it is a niche area because travel photographers tend not to capture locations or things but rather convey emotional experiences by means of the photos they record. The idea behind this logo composition was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of the majority of professional photographers in that they oftentimes convey whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be communicated with mere words. I tried to do something very similar to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  North Haven logo but also to illustrate the depth of her work and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

North Haven logo design with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I truly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A but the customer, while he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy truly loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family did not share his contempt for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I encourage all of them to talk about it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get unprejudiced assessments on the value of a design concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family members and they really loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logos are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that are inclined to hire an expert to create their logo design understand how essential a logo is for their organization so they are much more invested in the result. Every logo job possesses it’s share of challenges, but the biggest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the client the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, style for North Haven, Connecticut book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped parcel of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most vital part of a published book because it is often the first thing a person views in the bookstore. For a publisher, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will likely ever have to advertise their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with the bars customized to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart but it seems that in many instances one of the items consumers tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller startup commuter/shuttle air service situated in LA and while I’m not certain it actually “took off” their custom logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to conferring a good sense of flight and it was undoubtedly a winner.

North Haven logo layout utilized for advertising and marketing and a label layout for Vintage Case includes an archaic font layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand-new cases for musical instruments, which looked to be older cases. For this brand concept I tried to come up with a logo that provided a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could easily be utilized for anything from a web page to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different era.

Logo created for an orthodontist in North Haven, Connecticut, style include an arc with lines intersecting with it to indicate metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry business logos can easily be one of the most difficult logo projects due to the fact that it seems that every dentist integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to business marketing, if dining establishments approached their branding in the same way dental practices do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating an image of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care profession.

I actually love doing dental business logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo made for a household not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 characters staggered in elevation to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his city. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be overly literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wishes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo which conveyed that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to explain how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If people have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo design that explains itself will never have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo layout created for a hair design workshop featuring a script font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a logo design which conveyed a feeling of simplicity and class for their new hair studio. I came up with a design which did not go the obvious route of creating just a stylized orchid but rather designed a company logo that suggested an orchid in the pattern of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the logo design along with the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a business logo is generally the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the focus on the perception that they wanted to forecast to their patrons.

Logo design for a software program developer the layout features and famous element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and drive operations. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a bridge in between the software and computer hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it represented something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the symbolism behind a business logo is just as important as how it brands the company it represents.

A logo design including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly knew the market was primed for an outdoor sporting retailer that operates as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a location to sell off their used goods to other sports enthusiasts. I created their North Haven logo design dsign utilizing an illustration which garners the attention of vehicles and projects an image that arouses the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.
Logo style MQ farms, this logo design has actually a field incorporated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo design wasn’t really composed for an North Haven, Connecticut regional farm it was really devised for a products broker, and this particular creative logo was one of a handful of which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was actually to design an identity that projected self-confidence, financial success, and wealth.

North Haven Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo layout function for ostensibly dealing with arrow and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what type of logo design that they wanted, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the opportunity to delve into any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye in the absence of recognizing where exactly the target is. Fortunately, in this instance, I hit a bullseye with the first go.

Logo designed for the use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font style that is reminiscent of a well-known sporting activities team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created loads of restaurant logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project where I worked closely with the proprietor to produce a logo that worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
