Memorable Logos That Tell Stories and Connect Emotionally

Creating a brand identity or a custom logo design that is both memorable and tells the story of who you are or what you do is a monumental job. The difficulty is to make a logo design that is simple enough to be comprehended at a glimpse and transmits enough information that it can communicate who you are. However no logo design can truly tell your story or explain your business, and travelling down that road often makes for a brand identity design that accomplishes neither. Although, in skillful hands, it is quite possible to strike a balance between both and create a brand identity that both informs and emotes and reaching that sweet spot is what your business should wish for from their logo designer.

ImageCo is one person, Tim Garner, I am an independent branding specialist. For over 20 years I ‘ve been designing memorable logos and brand identity designs which tell stories and resonate with viewers. But don’t take my word for it, check out my logo portfolio and see for yourself. I do not claim that I am the best logo designer in the world, but, I do know what I am actually doing and my clients are inclined to agree.

A LOGO IS NOT YOUR BRAND

The expression “your logo is not your brand” is a statement that is often said with such vehemence by individuals operating in the branding industry, that one has to question why so many people in branding firms hate logos as much as they appear to. It is quite true that your logo is not your business’s brand, but what does that mean for a brand that has no logo? One thing is certain, it all but guarantees that a brand with no logo will be faceless and quickly forgotten.

Without a visual identity, an organization’s brand is nothing more than a fading memory because people would have nothing to anchor their brand experiences too.

Some compare a business’s logo to a smile or a handshake which is somewhat accurate, however it’s also far more than that. A logo is a brand’s anchor and it also functions as the cornerstone of a company’s brand. A logo acts as an anchor because the entire brand experience is secured to it. It is also a brand’s cornerstone, since a cornerstone is the first stone placed when building the foundation of the structure above it, and once laid it will serve as the guiding reference point for every stone that comes after it. A logo works in the same way, it is a foundational element that supports the business it represents, and it continuously serves as a defining reference point that helps guide a brand as it grows.

ImageCo is a brand identity agency and our mission is to assist our customers lay that cornerstone as well as set that anchor. We help businesses look established, more refined, and more professional. This helps ensure that our clients will always be considered, and are not only entitled to a seat at the table, but look like they should be seated at the head of that table.

Because of our sign first approach our logo designs can, and have been utilized in everything from garment labels to billboards. Our sign first technique ensures that our logo designs are just as successful whether they are used in television commercials or website applications, they are consistently identifiable, comprehended, and always remembered no matter of size or use.

American Made ★ Design

Something which really sets ImageCo apart from other design firms that you might have come across in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are contracted to do, we do in-house. Irrespective of the type of project we accept, logo, business website, trade show banners, or retail sign, we do not, and never will job out our customer’s projects to contractors based outside the US. Whenever you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that picks up the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that marks up the cost of your design project and imposes the conditions of how my customers and I do business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GREAT LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new South Windsor organization realizes that they probably need a logo, yet few start-ups thoroughly grasp the essential role their business logo can perform in their success, or the reason that one logo works better than another. A logo has an immediate and lasting impact on the prosperity of a business, go with the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, go with the wrong one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the life span of an organization.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help South Windsor companies prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these five traits in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t need scrutiny, they can be grasped in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from clothing labels to store signs a scalable business logo will stay legible and equally emotive at virtually any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos which work on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the item or organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo needs to be timeless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from now.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s a verb and a noun, it’s an identifying mark as well as the process of denoting something to make sure that it could be distinguished, its origin comes from the brand burned onto livestock. These days a brand signifies basically anything with an objective, regardless of whether it be revenue or politics, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of specifying the worth of a specific thing in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s sexy sister, they are all from the exact same family, the difference being that advertising and marketing are about making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity competition targeted at a target market, it’s objective is to produce an image that the target market can identify with.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated through advertising and marketing and identity design. When someone states the names Ferrari or Mustang what we think about is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can deliver us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and brand image is what makes individuals want those brands. Brand image is why people get specific brands, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can identify with.

Branding Firms – If you look back at the history of a lot of branding firms you’ll find that they are frequently rebranded marketing companies. When a person states they are in advertising lots of people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or listened to belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a graphic designer that concentrates on a type of visual design that helps shape the image of a business, a product or an institution. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, packaging, and collateral material such as business cards, stationery, and sales brochures. Some visual designers also build web sites as well as software interfaces. The important function of a brand identity designer is to establish the visual cues and a psychological tone with the objective of affecting actions, end results and also understandings.

Featured logos & signs

Retro logo design of a bicycle produced for a South Windsor coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and cafe were launching in an old part of the town and hoped to cast a retro feel without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I accomplished each of the tasks via creating a custom logo design that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a timeless business image.

medical logo style with a microscopic lense slide and also germs designed for South Windsor clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which researches the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare which works with the clinical assessment of samplings of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the sole instance I call to mind where I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be excessively literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it represents rather literally, yet it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that makes it more appealing, more interest grabbing and more meaningful.

logo layout with a leaping green frog created for a household enjoyable facility in South Windsor.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the usual of the kinds of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dental practices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to integrate a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not really reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a much more enthusiastic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for marketing and advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I created was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, and a tree - made for South Windsor traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche area because travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but rather reveal emotional experiences by means of the photos they record. The thought behind this logo design was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of the majority of professional photographers in that they often share entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness which can’t be communicated with mere words. I attempted to do something much the same to this logo by employing the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  South Windsor logo design but also to show the depth in her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

South Windsor logo design with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of custom logo design jobs that I take on I honestly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the character A but the customer, even though he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular guy genuinely despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family didn’t share his contempt for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage them to talk about it with colleagues and family as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get impartial assessments on the worthiness of a concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family and they really loved the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logo designs are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire an expert to create their business logo comprehend how important a logo design is for their business so they are way more vested in the final result. Every logo project has it’s allotment of obstacles, but the biggest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for South Windsor publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow slice of real estate to work with, however it is the most necessary part of a printed book given that it is usually the initial thing a person views in the book store. With regard to a publisher, it’s the most ideal opportunity they will likely ever have to promote their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with the bars modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go but it looks like that in many occurrences one of the things people often tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest start-up commuter/shuttle air service based in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to affording a sense of airline flight and it was certainly a winner.

South Windsor logo style used for advertising and marketing and also a tag layout for Vintage Instance includes an antiquated font design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for musical instruments, which seemed to be much older cases. For this logo design I strove to come up with a logo that offered a fluid vintage feel to it and could easily be utilized for anything from a web site to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from another point in time.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in South Windsor, layout include an arc with lines converging via it to imply metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logo designs can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design projects due to the fact that it appears that virtually every dental professional integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden fields when it comes to company branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dentists do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating an illustration of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really enjoy doing dental business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was evident was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design developed for a household nonprofit, the logo includes 4 personalities surprised in height to represent a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be overly literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wants to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to summarize how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If you have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that illustrates itself won’t have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo design developed for a South Windsor hair layout studio including a manuscript font a hummingbird as well as an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo which carried a feeling of tranquility and elegance for their new hair salon. I came up with a design which didn’t go the obvious path of designing simply a stylized orchid but rather designed a business logo which suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl incorporated in to the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the logo design along with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering above the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is oftentimes the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the attention on the feeling that they wanted to project to their patrons.

Arabian horse logo design developed for a steed ranch that focuses on reproducing Arabian show steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed a distinct custom logo concept fashioned to display the unique physical traits of the Arabian breed of equines. By having an unique head shape and very high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the very most immediately identifiable equine breeds in the whole world.

Las Cafe, A South Windsor restaurant logo layout a little dining establishment, design consists of a modified manuscript font which floats over a group of ornate lines as well as dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a little restaurant, layout includes a customized script font style which hovers over a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Logo style for a software program programmer the layout features and legendary South Windsor element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and hard drive managing. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a bridge between the software and computer hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it meant something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the symbolism behind a company logo is equally as important as how it brands the company it represents.

Evolve logo style created for a South Windsorinterior developer, style feature a collection of red circles that converge and also change the letter O in the middle of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a South Windsor interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. logo layout done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in South Windsor, the characters for letter V and A in center of the word advanced have actually been changed to connect directly into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This South Windsor logo design job was done for a management guide that assists business leaders to become more effective at overseeing people, expectations, and profitability.

A South Windsor business logo design including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly realized the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a location to sell their secondhand items to other sports enthusiasts.

I created their South Windsor logo design design along with an image which garners the interest of traffic and sends an image that wakens the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo design MQ ranches, this South Windsor company logo layout has actually an area included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand concept wasn’t really composed for an South Windsor regional farm it was in reality created for a products broker, and this particular brand was one of multiple which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was to generate a brand mark that projects assurance, effectiveness, and wealth.

South Windsor Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo style function for externally facing arrowhead and also the arrowheads imply that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what type of logo design that they preferred, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the opportunity to delve into any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye in the absence of realizing where the target is. Fortunately, in this particular case, I hit a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo made for using an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript typeface that is reminiscent of a famous South Windsor sports team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created dozens of restaurant logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked directly with the business owner to create a business logo that worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
