TIPS ON FINDING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo design is an investment in both your time and your money so whenever a design firm presents a money back guarantee try to bear in mind that they can not refund the amount of time you invest which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some designers talk a good game but ultimately a designer can only be determined by the quality of their design work, if the work in their portfolio doesn’t contain real life examples odds are they won’t be able to produce a quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s aim is to be understood and remembered, and it’s purpose is to mirror your personal vision for your company. If a designer isn’t focused on realizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how fast they can get paid.

Land O' Lakes LOGO DESIGN

For over twenty years ImageCo has been helping businesses of all kinds establish memorable brands. We have performed brand identity design work for builders, schools, heart surgeons, wedding singers, bistros, retail stores, and virtually every other kind of business you can envision. What makes ImageCo different compared to our competitors is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every branding project as if it will be used as an electric sign. Because of our sign first method our brand identity designs can, and have been utilized in everything from garment labels to electrical signs. Our sign first method ensures that our logo designs are equally successful whether they are used in television commercials or web applications, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and always remembered no matter of size or purpose.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference which really sets ImageCo apart from other design agencies that you probably have found on-line, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every project we are contracted to perform, we perform in-house. Regardless of the kind of design project we take on, brand identity design, website, trade show display, or retail sign, we do not, and never will farm-out our customer’s projects to contractors based outside the USA. When you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a middleman that increases the cost of your project and determines the conditions of how my customers and I do business.

ASPECTS OF AN EFFECTIVE LOGO DESIGN

Every new Land O’ Lakes entrepreneur knows they require a logo, but few start-ups entirely comprehend the essential role their business logo will play in their financial success, or why one business logo performs better than another. A logo design has an immediate and sustaining impact on the viability of a company, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the life of a company. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Land O’ Lakes companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t need consideration, they can be understood in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from label to retail signs a scalable business logo will continue to be legible and equally emotive at any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the product or company they brand.
  5. Relevance: a company logo must be lasting and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.

understanding branding

Brand – It is both a verb as well as a noun, it’s an identifying mark as well as the process of marking something to ensure that it could be identified, its origin originates from the brand branded onto animals. Nowadays a brand signifies basically anything with an intention, regardless of whether it be revenue or government agencies, a brand is an inherent aspect of specifying the value of something in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like advertising and marketing’s attractive sister, they are both from the same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity competition aimed at a target market, it’s objective is to produce a mental image that the target market will likely identify with.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured by advertising and marketing and identity design. When someone mentions the brand names Porsche or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of an automobile with 4 wheels that can transport us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, beauty, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and that is what makes individuals want those products. Brand image is why individuals purchase most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Firms – If you look back at the beginning of the majority of branding agencies you’ll discover that they are frequently rebranded advertising and marketing agencies. When a person claims they are in advertising lots of people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or listened to are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a kind of visual design which helps form the image of a company, a product or an organization. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, packaging, and collateral products such as cards, stationery, and also pamphlets. Some identity designers also design web sites and also software interfaces. The vital duty of a brand identity designer is to establish the visual cues as well as a psychological tone with the objective of affecting activities, end results and also assumptions.

Featured logos & signs

Retro logo layout of a bike produced for a Land O' Lakes coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and cafe were actually launching in an old part of the city and hoped to visualize a retro vibe without appearing as boring or low energy. I achieved both jobs via designing a custom logo concept that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide and also bacteria developed for Land O' Lakes medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which examines the causes and outcomes of diseases, especially the field of healthcare which works with the clinical assessment of specimens of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is the only instance I recall in which I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be excessively literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it serves rather literally, however it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that helps make it more appealing, more attention grabbing and even more memorable.

logo design with a jumping environment-friendly frog made for a household enjoyable facility in Land O' Lakes.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental offices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the business has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to integrate a couple springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t really reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a better enthusiastic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they utilized for advertising and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I came up with was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design including a group of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, and also a tree - designed for Land O' Lakes traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche speciality because travel photographers don’t shoot places or things but instead convey emotional journeys through the photos they record. The idea behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of most professional photographers in that they often tell entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be conveyed with just words. I made an effort to do something very similar to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Land O’ Lakes logo but also to reveal the depth to her work and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Land O' Lakes logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design projects that I take on I really enjoy and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the character A however my client, while he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy genuinely hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family didn’t share his hatred for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I encourage them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get neutral viewpoints on the value of a design. Fortunately, he shared it with his whole family and they loved the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that are inclined to hire a professional to design their logo understand how crucial a logo design is for their organization so they are much more vested in the outcome. Every logo design job has it’s allotment of obstacles, but the largest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, design for Land O' Lakes book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin slice of real estate to work with, however it is the most crucial part of a printed book given that it is usually the first thing a person views in the bookstore. Regarding a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity they will ever have to publicize their brand and get their logo design in front of the men and women that buy actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with benches customized to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go yet it seems that in many instances 1 of the traits consumers tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller new venture commuter/shuttle airline based in LA and although I’m not sure it actually “took off” their custom logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a feeling of air travel and it was undoubtedly a success.

Land O' Lakes logo layout used for advertising as well as a tag style for Vintage Situation features an old font style design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for music instruments, that looked to be much older cases. For this custom logo design I strove to come up with a logo that offered a fluid old style feel to it and could be utilized for everything from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that looked like they were from a different point in time.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Land O' Lakes, design consist of an arc with lines intersecting with it to imply steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can easily be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design projects considering that it appears that virtually every dental professional includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to company advertising, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dentists do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would probably contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I really love doing dentist logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a concept that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was evident was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo created for a family nonprofit, the logo features 4 personalities startled in height to represent a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be very literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization hopes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo which communicated that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The objective of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to summarize specifically how people should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If you have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo that illustrates itself will never have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo style developed for a Land O' Lakes hair layout workshop featuring a script font a hummingbird as well as a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design that related a feeling of tranquility and elegance for their new hair studio. I came up with a design which didn’t go the obvious route of making just a stylized orchid but instead crafted a company logo which implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl incorporated into the letter O in the title and by placing attention on the logo design with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering above the logo itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is generally the wrong path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately laid the main focus on the perception that they wanted to project to their customers.

Arabian steed logo style created for a steed cattle ranch that concentrates on reproducing Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo created a distinct organization logo design fashioned to manifest the unique physical traits of the Arabian type of equines. With a different head shape and higher tail posture, the Arabian is one of the highly immediately identifiable equine types in the world.

Las Cafe, A Land O' Lakes restaurant logo style a little dining establishment, style consists of a customized script font which floats above a group of luxuriant lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo design a tiny dining establishment, layout contains a customized script typeface which floats above a group of luxuriant lines and also dots.

Logo style for a software developer the style features and legendary Land O' Lakes element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and hard drive management. The kernel connects the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a bridge between the software program and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it intimated something to the owner of the company and in many cases the meaning behind a business logo is equally as important as how it brands the organization it stands for.

Progress logo style developed for a Land O' Lakesindoor designer, design attribute a collection of red circles that converge and also replace the letter O in the middle of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Land O’ Lakes interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is a professional who arranges, explores, collaborates, and manages such tasks. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that involves conceptual development, area planning, location inspections, programming, study, interacting with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction management, and implementation of the design.

logo style done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Land O' Lakes, the characters for letter V and A in middle of the word advanced have actually been modified to link directly into the words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Land O’ Lakes logo design assignment was undertaken for a management advisor that enables business professionals to become more efficient at managing people, expectations, and productivity.

A Land O' Lakes business logo layout featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly understood the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a location to market their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Land O’ Lakes logo design utilizing an image which garners the interest of vehicles and projects an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo layout MQ farms, this Land O' Lakes company logo design has an area included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem concept wasn’t actually designed for an Land O’ Lakes regional farm it was actually designed for an investments broker, and this logo design was one of several that fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was really to develop a graphic that projects self-confidence, effectiveness, and affluence.

Land O' Lakes Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo layout feature for externally facing arrow and also the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what type of logo design they would like, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the opportunity to explore any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye in the absence of understanding where the target is. Fortunately, in this instance, I nailed a bullseye with the first shot.

Logo design developed for the use of a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font that is similar to a popular Land O' Lakes sporting activities team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed dozens of restaurant logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project in which I worked directly with the owner to design a logo which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
