Midway Logo Design

Nearly every new Midway venture understands that they are in need of a logo, yet few entrepreneurs thoroughly are aware of the pivotal role their company logo can make in their becoming successful, or why one business logo functions more effectively than another. A company logo has an immediate and lasting effect on the prosperity of a business, pick the right one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the wrong one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the life span of an organization. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Midway businesses prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t require consideration, they can be comprehended in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable logo will remain legible and equally emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the business they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a business logo should be timeless and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from now.

Retro logo style of a bicycle produced for a Midway coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffee shop were launching in an old section of the city and really wanted to visualize a retro atmosphere without coming across as boring or low energy. I accomplished the two jobs by means of designing a business logo design that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

clinical logo design with a microscopic lense slide and bacteria developed for Midway clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which examines the causes and effects of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare that deals with the clinical assessment of samples of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is really the only instance I remember in which I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Normally I attempt not to be overly literal with a concept and to a degree, this design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, but it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that makes it more appealing, more focus grabbing and even more unforgettable.

logo style with a jumping green frog made for a household enjoyable center in Midway.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental experts, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the title of the company features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to include a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not really reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a more dynamic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo featuring a flock of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - developed for Midway travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche area due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but rather communicate emotional experiences through the pictures they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is quintessential of most professional photographers in that they oftentimes convey entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness which can’t be conveyed with mere words. I tried to do something very similar to this logo by using the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Midway logo but also to illustrate the depth of her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Midway logo design with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design projects that I take on I really enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A however my customer, even though he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular guy genuinely loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family didn’t share his aversion for this specific variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage them to discuss it with colleagues and family members as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get unprejudiced point of views on the worthiness of a design. Fortunately, he shared it with his family and they adored the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a strange creature in the design world because the people that tend to hire a professional to create their logo understand how important a logo is for their business so they are much more invested in the end result. Every logo project possesses it’s share of difficulties, but the biggest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for Midway book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped slice of real estate to work with, however it is the most critical part of a printed book since it is usually the first thing a person sees in the book shop. With regard to a publisher, it’s the most ideal opportunity that they will likely ever get to publicize their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches changed to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go nevertheless it seems that in many occurrences one of the traits individuals tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller fledgling commuter/shuttle airline based in LA and while I’m not sure it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to conferring a sense of airline flight and it was surely a victory.

Midway logo design used for advertising and marketing as well as a label design for Vintage Instance features an old typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for music instruments, that seemed to be much older cases. For this logo concept I tried to come up with a logo that provided a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could easily be used for everything from a website to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another point in time.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Midway, layout include an arc with lines converging through it to imply metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo projects considering that it appears that every single dentist incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business advertising, if restaurants approached their branding in the exact same way dental offices do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would most likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I really enjoy doing dental logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was obvious was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a household nonprofit, the logo includes 4 characters surprised in height to stand for a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the people in his community. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be very literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization hopes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo design which communicated that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to illustrate precisely how people should think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If you have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo design that explains itself won’t have the chance to be understood.

Logo layout produced for a hair style workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a company logo which projected a feeling of simplicity and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a concept that didn’t go the obvious path of designing merely a stylized orchid but instead crafted a business logo which implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl featured into the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the concept using the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is usually the incorrect course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately placed the emphasis on the feeling that they really wanted to project to their customers.

Logo style for a software programmer the style attributes and iconic component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and disk operations. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge between the software and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it symbolized something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the symbolism behind a company logo is just as important as how it brands the business it stands for.

A logo style featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly knew the market was ready for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of passions, a place to sell off their secondhand products to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Midway logo design dsign using an image that garners the interest of traffic and projects an image that invokes the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.
Logo design MQ ranches, this logo design has actually an area incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms business logo design wasn’t actually created for an Midway regional farm it was really developed for an investments broker, and this logo design was one of many which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was really to produce a brand mark that projects self-assurance, financial success, and prosperity.
Logo design created for the use of an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script font that is evocative a renowned sporting activities team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted dozens of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked closely with the business owner to create a business logo that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
