Island of Hawai‘i Logo Design

Each and every new Island of Hawai‘i company understands that they need a logo, but few new business owners entirely are aware of the crucial role their logo can make in their success, or exactly why one business logo performs more effectively than another. A business logo has an instant and long-term effect on the financial success of a business, select the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, select the incorrect one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the life span of a company. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Island of Hawai‘i businesses prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is because they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not require deliberation, they can be comprehended in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo must be lasting and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from today.

Retro logo layout of a bicycle produced for a Island of Hawai‘i coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and cafe were launching in an old part of the town and really wanted to cast a nostalgic tone without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I achieved the two tasks via developing a logo concept that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo style with a microscopic lense slide as well as germs made for Island of Hawai‘i clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which analyzes the causes and effects of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare that works with the clinical assessment of samples of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the only instance I remember where I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be excessively literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it serves rather literally, yet it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that makes it more appealing, more interest grabbing and more meaningful.

logo style with a jumping eco-friendly frog created for a family enjoyable facility in Island of Hawai‘i.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental experts, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to integrate a few springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a much more enthusiastic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they utilized for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I came up with was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - made for Island of Hawai‘i travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche speciality because travel photographers don’t shoot places or things but rather communicate emotional journeys by means of the photos they record. The idea behind this logo concept was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of the majority of professional photographers in that they oftentimes share entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be revealed with mere words. I made an effort to do something the same to this logo design by making use of the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Island of Hawai‘i logo design but also to reveal the depth to her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Island of Hawai‘i logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of logo design projects that I take on I really relish and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A however the customer, even though he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This guy truly hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family members didn’t share his contempt for this specific kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I urge all of them to discuss it with colleagues and family members as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get impartial assessments on the benefit of a concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they really loved the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logo designs are a strange creature in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire an expert to create their logo design realize how important a logo design is for their organization so they are much more vested in the result. Every logo design job possesses it’s share of obstacles, but the biggest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for Island of Hawai‘i publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped piece of real estate to work with, yet it is the most vital part of a published book because it is in most cases the very first thing a person views in the book shop. With respect to a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity that they will likely ever get to promote their brand and get their logo design in front of the people that buy actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with the bars customized to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go but it seems like that in many instances one of the traits people tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young start-up commuter/shuttle airline based in LA and although I’m not certain it really “took off” their logo design didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to conferring a sense of flight and it was definitely a winner.

Island of Hawai‘i logo style used for marketing as well as a tag layout for Vintage Case includes an archaic typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, which seemed to be older cases. For this custom logo design I strove to come up with a logo that provided a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could be used for every thing from a website to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another era.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Island of Hawai‘i, design consist of an arc with lines converging through it to imply steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design jobs because it seems that each and every dental professional integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to company branding, if dining establishments approached their branding in the very same way dentists do every one of their logo designs would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really enjoy doing dentistry logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a concept that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the client the only smile that was evident was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a household nonprofit, the logo design includes 4 personalities startled in elevation to stand for a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the residents in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be very literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wishes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a logo which conveyed that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to illustrate specifically how people should think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If viewers have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that explains itself won’t have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo style developed for a hair style studio featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a business logo that projected a feeling of peace and connection for their new hair salon. I created a concept that didn’t go the obvious course of creating just a stylized orchid but instead crafted a logo which implied a flower in the formation of a swirl incorporated in to the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept along with the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is generally the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the emphasis on the emotion that they wanted to forecast to their patrons.

Arabian steed logo style created for an equine cattle ranch that focuses on breeding Arabian program horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed a distinct logo design styled to embody the unique physical traits of the Arabian breed of equines. By having an unique head form and high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the highly quite easily identifiable horse types in the world.

Logo layout for a software program programmer the style features as well as renowned component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive managing. The kernel links the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a connection in between the software program and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it symbolized something to the owner of the company and in many cases the substance behind a company logo is equally as important as how it brands the enterprise it stands for.

Advance logo design developed for a Island of Hawai‘i indoor designer, layout function a collection of red circles that intersect as well as change the letter O in the center of the logo design.

A logo design featuring a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly recognized the market was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a spot to sell their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Island of Hawai‘i logo design dsign with a graphic which garners the interest of vehicles and sends an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.
Logo style MQ ranches, this logo style has an area included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem idea wasn’t really composed for an Island of Hawai‘i regional farm it was actually created for an investments broker, and this particular trademark was one of a handful of that fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was actually to produce an identity that projects esteem, effectiveness, and wealth.
Logo designed for the use of a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant manuscript typeface that is reminiscent of a popular sports group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed dozens of restaurant custom logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked closely with the proprietor to produce a business logo that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
