Charleston Logo Design

Every new Charleston business realizes that they are in need of a logo, however few entrepreneurs thoroughly grasp the pivotal role their logo design can play in their success, or the reason that one logo performs more effectively than another. A logo has an instant and long-term effect on the success of a business, select the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, select the incorrect one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the life span of an organization. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Charleston businesses succeed, they are effective in any given scenario and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these five features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not demand consideration, they can be grasped in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo will remain legible and just as emotive at virtually any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo should be lasting and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from today.

Retro logo style of a bicycle created for a Charleston coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and coffee bar were opening up in an old section of the town and really wanted to project a nostalgic vibe without coming across as monotonous or low energy. I fulfilled both of these jobs by means of developing a logo concept that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a enduring business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide and also germs created for Charleston clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which investigates the causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the field of medicine which works with the laboratory assessment of samplings of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the only instance I recall in which I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Generally I try not to be excessively literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it serves rather literally, however it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that makes it more appealing, more interest grabbing and a lot more unforgettable.

logo layout with a jumping green frog developed for a family enjoyable center in Charleston.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dental practices, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the name of the company has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to feature a some springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not actually reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a better lively high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Charleston travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather niche field of photography and I think it is a niche field because travel photographers don’t shoot locations or things but instead convey emotional journeys through the photos they capture. The thought behind this logo concept was to use negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they oftentimes tell entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be communicated with just words. I tried to do something the same to this logo by making use of the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Charleston logo design but also to show the depth in her work and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Charleston logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of business logo design projects that I take on I really relish and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A however the client, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular man genuinely hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family did not share his aversion for this particular breed of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage all of them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get impartial assessments on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a strange creature in the design world given that the people that tend to hire a professional to create their logo understand how vital a logo is for their organization so they are way more vested in the final result. Every logo design project has it’s allotment of obstacles, but the biggest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the client the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Charleston publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow slice of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most essential part of a printed book since it is in most cases the initial thing a person views in the book shop. Regarding a publisher, it’s the opportunity that they will ever get to advertise their product and get their logo design in front of the men and women that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with benches changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart but it seems like that in many occurrences one of the aspects consumers often tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young fledgling commuter/shuttle airline located in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their logo design didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to conferring a feeling of air travel and it was undoubtedly a victory.

Charleston logo layout utilized for marketing as well as a label layout for Vintage Situation includes an antiquated font style style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand-new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be older cases. For this business logo design I tried to come up with a logo that offered a fluid retro feel to it and could be utilized for anything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another generation.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Charleston, style include an arc with lines converging with it to imply metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo projects considering that it appears that every dental professional integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business marketing, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the exact same way dentists do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would probably include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I actually love doing dental logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a specific area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and eventually I created a concept that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a household not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 personalities staggered in height to represent a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the people residing in his city. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be far too literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wishes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The objective of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to summarize specifically how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If viewers have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo design that explains itself won’t have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo design created for a hair design workshop featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a logo design that conveyed a spirit of relaxation and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a concept which did not go the obvious route of making merely a stylized orchid but alternatively crafted a business logo that suggested a flower in the pattern of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept along with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is generally the incorrect route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the emphasis on the feeling that they really wanted to transmit to their patrons.

Logo layout for a software designer the layout functions as well as iconic component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and drive operations. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a bridge in between the software and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it intimated something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the meaning behind a company logo is equally as important as how it brands the enterprise it stands for.

A logo layout including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly understood the market was primed for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a spot to sell their secondhand items to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Charleston logo design dsign along with an image that seizes the attention of traffic and projects an image that evokes the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.
Logo style MQ ranches, this logo style has actually a field included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem design wasn’t really composed for an Charleston area farm it was in reality developed for an investments broker, and this particular brand was one of several which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to generate a graphic that projects assurance, effectiveness, and wealth.
Logo design created for using an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font style that is evocative a renowned sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted quite a lot of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project where I worked closely with the proprietor to produce a logo that worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
