Lansing Logo Design

Every new Lansing organization understands that they need a logo, yet few entrepreneurs fully grasp the key role their logo design can perform in their financial success, or why one logo design performs better than another. A business logo has a critical and long term impact on the financial success of a company, select the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, select the wrong one and it can be an obstacle and an impediment for the life span of a business. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Lansing companies succeed, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these five features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not demand deliberation, they can be comprehended in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to billboards a scalable business logo will remain legible and equally emotive at any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the enterprise they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a company logo should be timeless and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.

Retro logo layout of a bike produced for a Lansing coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee bar were launching in an older part of the city and wished to visualize a retro tone without appearing as uninteresting or low energy. I achieved both of these jobs via developing a business logo concept that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a enduring business image.

clinical logo style with a microscope slide and germs made for Lansing medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that researches the triggers and consequences of diseases, especially the field of medicine which deals with the clinical evaluation of specimens of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I recall in which I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Generally I try not to be extremely literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it represents fairly literally, but it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that makes it more interesting, more interest grabbing and more memorable.

logo design with a leaping eco-friendly frog made for a family members enjoyable center in Lansing.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of projects which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dentists, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the business has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to feature a few springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a more lively high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Lansing traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche field because travel photographers don’t shoot places or things but instead reveal emotional experiences by means of the pictures they capture. The thought behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to project more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of almost all good photographers in that they often share whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be communicated with mere words. I tried to do something similar to this logo design by making use of the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Lansing logo but also to illustrate the depth to her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Lansing logo design with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of business logo design projects that I take on I seriously take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the character A but the client, while he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular man truly disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family didn’t share his scorn for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage all of them to talk about it with friends and family as well as with individuals that they don’t even know so as to get honest assessments on the value of a design concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they adored the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logos are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire an expert to create their logo design understand how crucial a logo design is for their business so they are much more vested in the final result. Every logo design project possesses it’s allotment of hurdles, however the largest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, style for Lansing publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped slice of real estate to work with, however it really is the most essential part of a printed book considering that it is in most cases the first thing a person views in the book shop. Regarding a publisher, it’s the opportunity that they will likely ever get to spotlight their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo made for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with benches customized to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go yet it seems that in many cases one of the aspects individuals usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest startup commuter/shuttle airline company situated in LA and while I’m not sure it actually “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to affording a spirit of flight and it was definitely a success.

Lansing logo style used for advertising and a label design for Vintage Case includes an old font style style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be older cases. For this business logo design I attempted to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could be utilized for everything from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different point in time.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Lansing, style consist of an arc with lines converging with it to suggest metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental business logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo projects because it seems that each and every dentist includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the very most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dentists do every one of their company logos would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care profession.

I really enjoy doing dentistry logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was apparent was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a family nonprofit, the logo design includes 4 characters staggered in elevation to stand for a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be far too literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo which communicated that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The objective of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to explain how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If you have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo design that describes itself won’t have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo design created for a hair design studio including a script font a hummingbird and also a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a company logo that related a spirit of simplicity and class for their new hair salon. I created a design which didn’t go the obvious course of crafting simply a stylized orchid but rather crafted a business logo that suggested an orchid in the pattern of a swirl incorporated into the letter O in the name and by putting emphasis on the concept with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the logo itself. The obvious path in creating a logo is generally the incorrect course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead placed the emphasis on the emotion that they really wanted to transmit to their patrons.

Arabian horse logo layout developed for a steed ranch that focuses on breeding Arabian show steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed a distinct brand concept styled to illustrate the unique physical traits of the Arabian type of equines. With a distinctive head form and high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the very most quite easily recognizable equine lineages in the world.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a little dining establishment, design contains a changed manuscript typeface which floats over a group of luxuriant lines and also dots.

Logo style for a software program designer the design functions and also legendary aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and hard drive management. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it intimated something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the substance behind a business logo is just as important as how it brands the enterprise it represents.

A logo design featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly recognized the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a spot to sell off their secondhand products to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Lansing logo dsign along with a graphic that garners the attention of vehicles and projects an image that calls to mind the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.
Logo layout MQ farms, this logo style has actually an area included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand idea wasn’t really produced for an Lansing area farm it was really designed for a products broker, and this particular business logo was one of multiple which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to create a graphic that projects confidence, effectiveness, and prosperity.
Logo design made for the use of an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font style that is reminiscent of a famous sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed dozens of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking in which I worked closely with the proprietor to create a business logo which worked very well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
