New Haven Logo Design

Every new New Haven organization knows they are in need of a logo, yet few new business owners entirely grasp the crucial role their logo design will take in their financial success, or precisely why one business logo works better than another. A logo design has an instant and long-term impact on the success of a business, select the right one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the wrong one and it will be a barrier and an impediment for the life span of a business. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help New Haven businesses prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these five features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require deliberation, they can be grasped in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable logo design will be legible and equally emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the business they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a business logo must be enduring and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

Retro logo style of a bike created for a New Haven coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee shop were actually opening in an older section of the area and hoped to project a retro atmosphere without coming across as monotonous or low energy. I fulfilled both of these tasks via developing a sign concept that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo design with a microscopic lense slide as well as bacteria made for New Haven medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which studies the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of medicine which deals with the laboratory evaluation of samplings of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is the only instance I recall where I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Normally I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it represents rather literally, however it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that helps make it more appealing, more focus grabbing and even more unforgettable.

logo layout with a jumping eco-friendly frog made for a family members enjoyable center in New Haven.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental professionals, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the business features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to feature a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better enthusiastic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they utilized for marketing and advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I did was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo featuring a group of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, and also a tree - developed for New Haven travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche sector due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead communicate emotional experiences by means of the images they capture. The thought behind this logo concept was to use negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of almost all good photographers in that they oftentimes convey entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness which can’t be communicated with mere words. I made an effort to do something much the same to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  New Haven logo but also to reveal the depth to her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

New Haven logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design jobs that I take on I honestly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A however the client, even though he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This guy truly hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his friends and family didn’t share his contempt for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I urge them to share it with friends and family members as well as with people that they don’t even know so as to get unprejudiced viewpoints on the benefit of a concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they really liked the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Business logos are a strange animal in the design world because the people that have a tendency to hire a professional to design their logo comprehend how important a logo is for their company so they are way more vested in the end result. Every logo design job has it’s allotment of difficulties, however the greatest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, design for New Haven book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow parcel of real estate to work with, nevertheless it really is the most important part of a published book since it is in most cases the initial thing a person sees in the book shop. For a publisher, it’s the absolute best opportunity they will ever have to advertise their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that shop for actual books.

This three color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches modified to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart but it seems that in many occurrences one of the items consumers tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young fledgling commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their logo design didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to imparting a good sense of flight and it was certainly a victory.

New Haven logo layout used for advertising and marketing and a tag design for Vintage Case features an old typeface layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, that looked to be much older cases. For this custom logo concept I strove to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid vintage feel to it and could be used for every thing from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another generation.

Logo developed for an orthodontist in New Haven, layout consist of an arc with lines intersecting through it to imply metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can be one of the most challenging logo design projects due to the fact that it appears that each and every dental professional features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental business logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business advertising, if restaurants approached their advertising in the same way dental practices do every one of their company logos would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably have an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I actually love doing dentist logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific field of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and ultimately I created a concept that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was evident was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 characters staggered in elevation to represent a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people residing in his city. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wants to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a logo which communicated that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to describe specifically how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If people have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that explains itself won’t have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo style created for a hair layout workshop including a script font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo that related a spirit of calmness and connection for their new hair studio. I came up with a design that didn’t go the obvious direction of making merely a stylized orchid but instead created a logo design which implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the name and by putting emphasis on the logo design with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering over the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a business logo is more often than not the wrong route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead put the emphasis on the emotion that they wanted to forecast to their clients.

Las Cafe logo design a little restaurant, layout includes a modified manuscript typeface which floats over a team of elaborate lines and also dots.

Logo style for a software program designer the layout attributes and renowned element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and disk operations. The kernel attaches the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a connection between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it symbolized something to the owner of the business and in many cases the significance supporting a company logo is equally as important as how it brands the enterprise it represents.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This New Haven logo design job was undertaken for a leadership specialist that enables business professionals to become more efficient at handling people, expectations, and productivity.

A logo design featuring an angler in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly realized the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a spot to sell off their previously owned products to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their New Haven logo dsign along with an image that pulls in the attention of vehicles and sends an image that arouses the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.
Logo style MQ farms, this logo layout has an area incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo concept wasn’t really designed for an New Haven area farm it was in reality created for a commodities broker, and this business logo was one of several that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to design a brand mark that projects assurance, financial success, and opulence.
Logo design designed for making use of a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant script font style that is similar to a famous sports team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed dozens of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking in which I worked directly with the proprietor to develop a logo which worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
