South Bend, Indiana Logo Design

Every new South Bend business professional knows they need a logo, however few entrepreneurs thoroughly grasp the crucial role their organization’s logo will make in their becoming successful, or the reason that one logo design functions far better than another. A company logo has an instant and sustaining influence on the prosperity of a company, select the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be a barrier and an impediment for the longevity of a company.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help South Bend, Indiana businesses succeed, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 things in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require contemplation, they can be grasped in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from labels to posters a scalable logo will stay legible and just as emotive at every size.
  3. Versatility: logos which function on any device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the company they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a business logo needs to be enduring and will feel as relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from today.

Retro logo layout of a bicycle produced for a South Bend, Indiana coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually opening up in an old part of the city and hoped to project a nostalgic vibe without appearing as uninteresting or low energy. I achieved each of the tasks by creating a business logo concept that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo design with a microscope slide and bacteria created for South Bend, Indiana clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which researches the root causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the field of medicine that deals with the clinical examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I recollect where I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Normally I try not to be overly literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents very literally, yet it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more captivating, more interest grabbing and a lot more unforgettable.

logo layout with a leaping eco-friendly frog designed for a family fun center in South Bend, Indiana.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental professionals, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the name of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to integrate a few springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better enthusiastic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a group of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - developed for South Bend, Indiana travel digital photographer.

Travel Don't Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche speciality due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to capture places or things but instead project emotional journeys through the images they capture. The idea behind this logo composition was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is representative of most good photographers in that they often tell whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness which can’t be conveyed with just words. I tried to do something the same to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  South Bend logo but also to reveal the depth in her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

South Bend logo style with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I genuinely take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however my client, even though he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man really disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his friends and family did not share his aversion for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I encourage all of them to discuss it with friends and family as well as with people that they don’t even know so as to get objective judgements on the value of a design. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they really loved the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original design.

Logos are a weird animal in the design world because the people that tend to hire an expert to design their logo recognize how vital a logo is for their organization so they are way more vested in the outcome. Every logo design project possesses it’s allotment of obstacles, however the largest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for South Bend, Indiana publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin slice of real estate to work with, however it is the most vital part of a printed book due to the fact that it is often the primary thing a person sees in the book store. For a publisher, it’s the absolute best opportunity they will likely ever get to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with the bars customized to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart but it seems that in many instances 1 of the traits individuals tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest fledgling commuter/shuttle airline company located in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their business logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to imparting a feeling of flight and it was definitely a winner.

South Bend logo style utilized for advertising and marketing as well as a tag style for Vintage Instance includes an antiquated typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand new cases for music instruments, that appeared to be antique cases. For this custom logo design I attempted to come up with a logo that provided a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could be used for everything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that looked like they were from another generation.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in South Bend, Indiana, style include an arc with lines intersecting with it to imply steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logos can easily be one of the most difficult logo jobs because it seems that every single dentist integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business advertising, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dental practices do every one of their logos would be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely contain a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really enjoy doing dentist logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a concept that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a household nonprofit, the logo design features 4 personalities surprised in height to stand for a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be very literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution hopes to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo design which conveyed that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The objective of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to summarize specifically how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If people have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that illustrates itself will never have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo style created for a hair layout studio featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a business logo that related a sense of calmness and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a design which didn’t go the obvious course of designing just a stylized orchid but alternatively delivered a business logo that implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl incorporated in to the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the logo design along with the figure of a hummingbird floating over the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is more often than not the incorrect path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the importance on the perception that they wanted to transmit to their customers.

Logo design for a software program programmer the design attributes as well as legendary element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive operations. The kernel unites the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a bridge in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it represented something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the symbolism behind a business logo is just as important as how it brands the business it represents.

A logo layout including a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly understood the market was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a place to sell off their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts.
I tailored their South Bend logo design dsign using an image which seizes the attention of vehicles and projects an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.

Logo layout MQ ranches, this logo design has an area included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo design wasn’t really produced for an South Bend, Indiana regional farm it was really designed for a commodities broker, and this particular company was one of many that fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to design a brand mark that projected assurance, effectiveness, and luxury.

South Bend Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo style feature for externally dealing with arrowhead and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the liberty to delve into any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye without knowing where exactly the target is. Luckily, in this case, I struck a bullseye with the very first shot.

Logo design developed for using a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font style that is similar to a famous sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed dozens of restaurant custom logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project in which I worked directly with the owner to create a business logo which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
