POINTERS FOR IDENTIFYING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A business logo is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design agency offers a money back guarantee try to keep in mind that they can not refund the time you commit which is much more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many designers talk a good game but inevitably a design firm can only be judged by the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their portfolio doesn’t contain real life examples odds are they will never be able to deliver a quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s objective is to be understood and be unforgettable, and it’s goal is to reflect your personal vision for your organization. If a logo designer isn’t focused on actualizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how fast they can get paid.

Marshalltown LOGO DESIGN

For over 2 decades ImageCo has been helping small business owners develop notable brand identities. We’ve performed logo design work for builders, universities, diamond miners, wedding singers, diners, retail stores, and just about every other kind of business you can envision. What makes us unique compared to our competitors is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every logo design project as though it will be employed as an electrical sign. Because of our sign first technique our brand identity designs can, and have been used in everything from fashion labels to neon signs. Our sign first method insures that our logo designs are just as effective whether they are used in TV commercials or web applications, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and remembered regardless of size or purpose.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference that seriously sets ImageCo apart from many of the design companies that you may have found in Google’s search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every project we are brought on board to perform, we do ourselves. No matter the type of design project we accept, business logo, website, trade show display, or commercial sign, we do not, and never will contract out our customer’s projects to contractors based outside the United States. Whenever you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the individual that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that increases the price of your design project and imposes the terms of how my customers and I conduct business.

ASPECTS OF AN EFFECTIVE LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new Marshalltown organization understands that they probably need a logo, yet few new business owners fully grasp the pivotal role their company logo can play in their becoming successful, or why one business logo functions far better than another. A business logo has a critical and lasting influence on the growth of a business, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the wrong one and it will be a barrier and an impediment for the life of a company. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Marshalltown companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these five traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t need consideration, they can be comprehended in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo will remain legible and just as emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the product or business they brand.
  5. Relevance: a company logo needs to be timeless and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from today.

understanding branding

Brand – It is both a verb and also a noun, it is an identifying mark as well as the process of marking something so that it can be identified, its origin comes from the brand branded onto animals. Today a brand represents virtually anything with an objective, regardless if it be earnings or political parties, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of defining the worth of a specific thing in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like advertising and marketing’s sexy sister, they are all from the very same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity competition directed at a specific audience, it’s objective is to develop a mental image that the target market will likely relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated through advertising and marketing and identity design. When a person says the brand names Ferrari or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can transport us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and brand image is what makes people want those brands. Brand image is why people identify with specific brands, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can identify with.

Branding Firms – If you reflect on the history of a lot of branding companies you’ll discover that they are often re-branded marketing and advertising agencies. When a person says they are in advertising the majority of people will likely have a preconceived notion about what they do. Yet when a person claims “I am in branding”… it simply sounds more attractive, possibly it’s due to the fact that most individuals do not fully understand what it implies to be in branding so it comes off as more mysterious and sexy.

Brand Identity – Is an inclusive term that explains the visual aspects of a product or agency that influence view points. This mainly consists of the name, the logo design, the packaging, the different colors used but can additionally include audio, lights, texture, signage, actually anything that can be seen, touched or heard are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a kind of visual design that helps shape the public image of a firm, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, signage designs, product packaging, and collateral products such as business cards, stationery, and also sales brochures. Some visual designers also design sites and user interfaces. The crucial duty of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and a psychological tone with the objective of influencing activities, results and perceptions.

select SIGNS & LOGOS

Retro logo layout of a bike developed for a Marshalltown coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffee bar were opening in an old part of the town and wanted to project a vintage tone without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I accomplished both jobs by designing a business logo design that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo style with a microscopic lense slide and germs made for Marshalltown medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that researches the causes and outcomes of diseases, especially the field of medicine that works with the clinical examination of specimens of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is the sole instance I recall where I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be extremely literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it serves quite literally, yet it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more captivating, more attention grabbing and even more meaningful.

logo design with a jumping environment-friendly frog developed for a household enjoyable facility in Marshalltown.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the types of projects which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dental professionals, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the company has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to feature a couple springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not actually reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more dynamic high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they utilized for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo featuring a flock of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Marshalltown traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche field because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but rather communicate emotional journeys by means of the photos they record. The idea behind this logo concept was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of most good photographers in that they often convey entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance that can’t be conveyed with just words. I tried to do something much the same to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Marshalltown logo design but also to illustrate the depth to her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Marshalltown logo design with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of logo design projects that I take on I truly relish and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however the customer, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy truly disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members did not share his scorn for this particular kind of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I encourage all of them to share it with colleagues and family members as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get unbiased point of views on the merit of a design concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family and they really liked the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Custom logo designs are a weird creature in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire a professional to design their logo design understand how essential a logo is for their business so they are much more vested in the end result. Every logo design project has it’s share of difficulties, but the largest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Marshalltown publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin parcel of real estate to work with, however it is the most necessary part of a printed book due to the fact that it is usually the very first thing a person views in the bookstore. Concerning a publisher, it’s the most ideal opportunity they will ever get to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that shop for actual books.

This three color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches customized to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart nevertheless it seems that in many occurrences one of the traits consumers often tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young start-up commuter/shuttle air service situated in LA and although I’m not certain it actually “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a feeling of airline flight and it was undoubtedly a winner.

Marshalltown logo layout used for advertising and marketing and also a tag style for Vintage Situation includes an antiquated typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand new cases for music instruments, which appeared to be older cases. For this logo concept I tried to come up with a logo that provided a fluid vintage feel to it and could be utilized for anything from a web site to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another generation.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Marshalltown, design consist of an arc with lines intersecting with it to suggest metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can easily be one of the most challenging logo design jobs considering that it appears that each and every dental professional integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business marketing, if dining establishments approached their branding in the same way dental practices do every one of their logo designs would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would likely have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind including an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really love doing dentistry business logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 characters startled in elevation to stand for a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the folks in his city. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be very literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization hopes to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design that communicated that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to summarize exactly how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If viewers have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo that explains itself will never have the chance to be understood.

Logo design created for a Marshalltown hair design studio featuring a script font a hummingbird and an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a business logo that communicated an atmosphere of ease and connection for their new hair studio. I came up with a design that didn’t go the obvious direction of creating merely a stylized orchid but instead delivered a company logo which suggested a flower in the formation of a swirl featured into the letter O in the name and by placing emphasis on the concept using the figure of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is usually the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the importance on the emotion that they really wanted to project to their customers.

Arabian horse logo style developed for a horse ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed a distinct organization logo design styled to display the unique physical traits of the Arabian kind of equines. With a different head form and higher tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most quite easily identifiable equine lineages in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Marshalltown Coffee shop logo design a small restaurant, design contains a modified manuscript font which floats over a team of ornate lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo layout a little dining establishment, layout includes a modified script font which hovers above a group of elaborate lines and also dots.

Logo design for a software programmer the layout attributes and also famous Marshalltown component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and drive management. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it represented something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the meaning supporting a business logo is just as important as how it brands the business it represents.

Progress logo style produced for a Marshalltowninterior designer, layout function a collection of red circles that intersect and also replace the letter O in the center of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Marshalltown interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is someone who prepares, investigates, collaborates, and oversees such projects. logo layout done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Marshalltown, the characters for letter V and A in center of the word progressed have been modified to connect straight into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Marshalltown logo design job was undertaken for a leadership advisor that aids business leaders to develop into more successful at overseeing people, expectations, and profitability.

A Marshalltown business logo layout featuring an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly knew the market was primed for an outdoor sporting store that functions as a consignment company. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a location to sell off their previously owned goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Marshalltown logo design design along with a graphic that captures the interest of vehicles and projects an image that invokes the passion of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.

Logo layout MQ farms, this Marshalltown company logo design has a field integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo design wasn’t really developed for an Marshalltown area farm it was actually developed for a commodities broker, and this company was one of a handful of which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to make a graphic that projected self-confidence, success, and affluence.

Marshalltown Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo design function for externally facing arrowhead and also the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design that they preferred, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the flexibility to investigate any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye without knowing where the target is. Thankfully, in this particular instance, I hit a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo developed for using an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script typeface that is evocative a popular Marshalltown sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed quite a lot of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking in which I worked closely with the business owner to develop a logo that worked very well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
