Urbandale, Iowa Logo Design

Nearly every new Urbandale business realizes that they need a logo, but few entrepreneurs fully recognize the essential role their business logo will make in their financial success, or exactly why one logo performs more effectively than another. A logo has an immediate and long-term impact on the success of a company, go with the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, select the wrong one and it will be an obstacle and a hindrance for the longevity of a business.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Urbandale, Iowa businesses prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 things in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not require deliberation, they can be grasped in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from labels to billboards a scalable logo design will stay legible and equally emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the business they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a logo must be lasting and should feel as relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from now.
Retro logo style of a bicycle developed for a Urbandale, Iowa coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually opening up in an old part of the community and hoped to project a vintage atmosphere without appearing as monotonous or low energy. I achieved both of these tasks by developing a business logo design that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide as well as germs created for Urbandale, Iowa clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that researches the root causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of medicine that deals with the clinical assessment of samples of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is really the only instance I recall in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Normally I try not to be excessively literal with a design and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents quite literally, however it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that makes it more captivating, more attention grabbing and a lot more meaningful.

logo design with a jumping eco-friendly frog made for a family members enjoyable center in Urbandale, Iowa.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dental professionals, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the business has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to feature a some springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a better lively high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they used for advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

photography logo including a group of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Urbandale, Iowa traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector because travel photographers don’t shoot locations or things but instead reveal emotional journeys by means of the photos they record. The idea behind this logo composition was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of almost all professional photographers in that they oftentimes tell entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be conveyed with mere words. I made an effort to do something similar to this logo design by utilizing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Urbandale logo design but also to reveal the depth to her work and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Urbandale logo design with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of custom logo design jobs that I take on I truly relish and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A but my customer, even though he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular man truly hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family members didn’t share his hatred for this specific variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge them to share it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get unbiased point of views on the benefit of a design concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they adored the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Custom logo designs are a strange animal in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire a professional to create their business logo comprehend how essential a logo is for their business so they are way more invested in the outcome. Every logo design job has it’s portion of difficulties, however the biggest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Urbandale, Iowa publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow slice of real estate to work with, however it is the most crucial part of a published book considering that it is in most cases the primary thing a person sees in the book shop. With regard to a publisher, it’s the optimal opportunity they will ever get to advertise their brand and get their logo design in front of the men and women that shop for actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with the bars changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart but it looks like that in many cases one of the traits folks usually tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest fledgling commuter/shuttle airline company situated in LA and while I’m not sure it really “took off” their custom logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to conferring a spirit of airline flight and it was surely a winner.

Urbandale logo layout used for advertising and marketing as well as a label design for Vintage Case features an antiquated font style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for music instruments, which looked to be vintage cases. For this custom logo concept I sought to come up with a logo that provided a fluid vintage feel to it and could easily be used for every thing from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different era.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Urbandale, Iowa, design consist of an arc with lines converging with it to imply metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo jobs due to the fact that it appears that virtually every dental professional integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business advertising, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dental professionals do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would most likely include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I really enjoy doing dental care business logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a specific area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and eventually I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo made for a household not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 characters startled in elevation to represent a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the residents in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be far too literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution wishes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo design which conveyed that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The aim of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to explain how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If people have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo design that illustrates itself will never have the opportunity to be understood.

Logo layout created for a hair style workshop featuring a script font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a company logo which carried a spirit of relaxation and elegance for their new hair studio. I created a design that didn’t go the obvious route of making just a stylized orchid but alternatively delivered a business logo which suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the title and by placing attention on the concept with the figure of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a business logo is frequently the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately placed the importance on the perception that they wanted to project to their customers.

Logo design for a software application developer the design attributes and legendary aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and disk managing. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge in between the software and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it symbolized something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the symbolism supporting a company logo is equally as important as how it serves the company it stands for.

A logo design including an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the founders of On the Fly realized the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting retailer that operates as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of passions, a location to sell off their used goods to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Urbandale business logo dsign along with an illustration that garners the interest of traffic and projects an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.
Logo layout MQ farms, this logo style has a field integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms logo idea wasn’t actually produced for an Urbandale, Iowa area farm it was really devised for a products broker, and this particular logo was one of a handful of that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to create a graphic that projected esteem, effectiveness, and wealth.

Urbandale Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo layout function for outwardly dealing with arrow as well as the arrowheads imply that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what type of logo design that they desired, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the opportunity to delve into any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye in the absence of understanding where the target is. Fortunately, in this particular case, I nailed a bullseye with the 1st try.

Logo design developed for using a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script typeface that is reminiscent of a renowned sports group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have crafted dozens of restaurant custom logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project in which I worked directly with the proprietor to develop a logo that worked very well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
