Memorable Logos That Tell Stories and Connect Emotionally

Crafting a brand identity or a business logo that is both unforgettable and tells the story of who you are or what you do is a monumental job. The challenge is to make a logo design that is simplistic enough to be understood at a glance and imparts enough information that it can express who you are. However no logo design can absolutely tell your story or explain your business, and moving down that road frequently makes for a brand identity design that performs neither. But, in skilled hands, it is possible to strike a balance between both and create a logo that both informs and emotes and hitting that sweet spot is what every business should hope for from their brand identity designer.

ImageCo is one person, Tim Garner, I am a free lance branding specialist. For over twenty years I ‘ve been designing unforgettable logos and brand identity designs that tell stories and resonate with audiences. However don’t take my word for it, check out my work and see for yourself. I don’t claim to be the best logo designer in the world, however, I do know what I’m doing and my clients are inclined to agree.

A LOGO IS NOT YOUR BRAND

The expression “your logo is not your brand” is a statement that is often said with such fervor by individuals working in the branding sector, that one has to wonder why so many people in branding firms dislike logos as much as they seem to. It is definitely true that your logo is not your business’s brand, but what does that make a business that has no logo? One thing is quite certain, it all but guarantees that a brand with no logo will be faceless and easily forgotten.

Without a visual identity, a business’s brand is nothing more than a fading memory because people would have virtually nothing to anchor their experiences too.

Some compare a logo to a smile or a handshake which is somewhat accurate, however it’s also far more than that. A logo is a brand’s anchor and it also serves as the cornerstone of an organization’s brand image. A logo serves as an anchor due to the fact that the entire brand experience is secured to it. It is also a brand’s cornerstone, since a cornerstone is the first stone laid when constructing the foundation of the structure above it, and once laid it will be the reference point for every thing that comes after it. A logo serves in the same way, it is a foundational element that supports the organization it represents, and it also serves as a reference point that helps guide a brand as it grows.

ImageCo is a brand identity firm and our objective is to assist our clients lay that cornerstone as well as drop that anchor. We help organizations look established, more refined, and more knowledgeable. This ensures that our clients will always be considered, and are not only entitled to a seat at the table, but look like they ought to be seated at the head of that table.

Urbandale LOGO DESIGN

For over 20 years ImageCo has been helping start ups and entrepreneurs establish memorable brands. We’ve undertaken branding work for builders, educational institutions, diamond miners, party planners, restaurants, retail stores, and just about every other kind of business you can imagine. What makes ImageCo different compared to our competitors is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every brand identity project as though it will be employed as an electrical sign. As a result of our sign first strategy our brand identity designs can, and have been utilized in everything from clothing labels to electrical signs. Our sign first method insures that our logos are just as successful whether they are used in television commercials or website headers, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and always remembered no matter of size or function.

American Made ★ Design

Something that truly sets ImageCo apart from many of the design agencies that you might have come across in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every design project we are brought on board to perform, we do in-house. Regardless of the kind of design project we accept, brand identity design, website design, trade show display, or commercial sign, we do not, and never will farm-out our client’s work to agencies based outside the USA. Whenever you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that answers the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that marks up the price of your design project and imposes the conditions of how you and I conduct business.

QUALITIES OF A GREAT LOGO DESIGN

Virtually every new Urbandale organization knows they require a logo, however few start-ups entirely realize the essential role their company logo can perform in their becoming successful, or the reason that one logo design performs more effectively than another. A business logo has an immediate and lasting influence on the success of a business, choose the correct one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, select the wrong one and it can be an obstacle and a hindrance for the longevity of a company.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Urbandale companies succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t need contemplation, they can be understood in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to retail signs a scalable logo design will be legible and just as emotive at every dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the item or business they brand.
  5. Relevance: a business logo should be timeless and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is both a verb and a noun, it’s an identifying mark as well as the process of denoting something to ensure that it can be distinguished, its genesis originates from the mark branded onto animals. Today a brand symbolizes practically anything with an objective, regardless of whether it be earnings or politics, a brand is an inherent aspect of specifying the value of a specific thing in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like advertising and marketing’s attractive sister, they are both from the exact same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing have to do with making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest directed at a target audience, it’s goal is to produce a mental image that the audience will likely connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured by advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When someone states the brand names Ferrari or Mustang what we think about is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can transport us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and that is what makes people want those brands. Brand image is why individuals purchase most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Companies – If you reflect on the history of most branding agencies you’ll find that they are frequently rebranded advertising firms. When a person says they are in advertising most individuals will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, felt or heard become part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a designer that specializes in a kind of visual design which helps shape the public image of a business, a product or an institution. Brand identity designers create logo designs, signage designs, product packaging, and also collateral products such as business cards, stationery, as well as pamphlets. Some identity designers also build sites and also software interfaces. The vital function of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues as well as an emotional tone with the objective of influencing actions, end results as well as understandings.

Featured signs/logos

Retro logo design of a bicycle produced for a Urbandale coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and coffee shop were opening up in an older part of the town and wanted to cast a vintage feel without appearing as uninteresting or low energy. I accomplished each of the jobs by means of creating a custom logo concept that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide as well as germs made for Urbandale medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which investigates the triggers and effects of diseases, especially the branch of healthcare which deals with the laboratory evaluation of specimens of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is really the sole instance I remember in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Usually I try not to be extremely literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it serves quite literally, but it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that makes it more captivating, more attention grabbing and a lot more unforgettable.

logo layout with a leaping eco-friendly frog made for a family fun center in Urbandale.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dentists, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the business has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to include a few springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not really reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more dynamic high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a group of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Urbandale traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche area due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to capture places or things but rather communicate emotional experiences through the pictures they record. The thought behind this logo design was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they frequently tell whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance that can’t be revealed with mere words. I attempted to do something much the same to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Urbandale logo but also to illustrate the depth in her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Urbandale logo design with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of logo design jobs that I take on I genuinely relish and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A but the client, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular man genuinely despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family did not share his hatred for this particular breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I encourage all of them to share it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with other people that they don’t actually know so as to get honest viewpoints on the merit of a design. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family and they loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logos are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that are inclined to hire a professional to create their business logo comprehend how vital a logo is for their company so they are way more invested in the result. Every logo project has it’s share of challenges, but the most significant challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Urbandale publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin segment of real estate to work with, but it really is the most vital part of a printed book since it is ordinarily the initial thing a person sees in the book store. For a publishing company, it’s the optimal opportunity they will likely ever get to spotlight their brand and get their logo design in front of the men and women that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design designed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with benches modified to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go however it seems like that in many occurrences 1 of the aspects folks often tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young fledgling commuter/shuttle airline company situated in LA and although I’m not certain it actually “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a feeling of airline flight and it was undoubtedly a success.

Urbandale logo style made use of for advertising and marketing and also a tag style for Vintage Case includes an antiquated typeface layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for musical instruments, which looked to be much older cases. For this business logo design I tried to come up with a logo that provided a fluid retro feel to it and could be used for every thing from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that looked like they were from a different generation.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Urbandale, style include an arc with lines converging through it to indicate metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logos can easily be one of the most challenging logo design projects due to the fact that it seems that almost every dentist features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to company branding, if restaurants approached their advertising in the same way dentists do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would most likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I actually love doing dentist logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific field of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was evident was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo made for a family members not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 characters surprised in height to stand for a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be depictive of the devotion that William McNally had for the folks in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be overly literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wishes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo which conveyed that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to illustrate precisely how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If people have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo design that explains itself won’t have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo design produced for a Urbandale hair style workshop featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird as well as a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a business logo that projected a feeling of calmness and class for their new hair salon. I came up with a concept which didn’t go the obvious path of creating just a stylized orchid but rather crafted a company logo that suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the logo design using the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is frequently the incorrect path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the main focus on the emotion that they really wanted to forecast to their clients.

Arabian steed logo design produced for a steed ranch that concentrates on breeding Arabian program horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed an original organization logo design fashioned to exemplify the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of horses. With a distinctive head form and very high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the highly immediately recognizable equine types in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Urbandale restaurant logo style a small dining establishment, design includes a changed manuscript font style which floats over a group of ornate lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo style a tiny restaurant, style contains a customized manuscript font style which floats over a team of elaborate lines and dots.

Logo style for a software application developer the layout functions as well as iconic Urbandale element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive management. The kernel attaches the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that serves as a bridge between the software and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it represented something to the owner of the business and in quite a few cases the significance behind a company logo is equally as important as how it brands the business it represents.

Evolve logo layout created for a Urbandaleindoor developer, style feature a collection of red circles that intersect as well as change the letter O in the middle of the logo design.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Urbandale interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is a professional who prepares, researches, coordinates, and manages such tasks. Interior design is a diverse occupation that involves conceptual development, space planning, location evaluations, programming, analysis, corresponding with the stakeholders of a project, construction management, and execution of the design.

logo style done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Urbandale, the personalities for letter V and also A in middle of words progressed have actually been modified to connect directly right into words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Urbandale logo design assignment was carried out for a leadership specialist that aids business leaders to develop into more effective at handling people, expectations, and profitability.

A Urbandale business logo style including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly recognized the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment company. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a location to sell their secondhand equipment to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Urbandale business logo design with an illustration that garners the attention of traffic and projects an image that calls to mind the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo style MQ farms, this Urbandale company logo layout has actually a field included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo concept wasn’t really composed for an Urbandale area farm it was in reality created for a products broker, and this particular company logo was one of a handful of which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to generate a graphic that projected esteem, effectiveness, and opulence.

Urbandale Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo layout attribute for outwardly dealing with arrowhead and also the arrowheads indicate that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design that they desired, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the liberty to delve into any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye in the absence of understanding where the target is. Thankfully, in this particular case, I hit a bullseye with the 1st try.

Logo design made for the use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font that is evocative a renowned Urbandale sports group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed loads of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the US, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking in which I worked closely with the business owner to design a logo which worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted sign which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
