TIPS ON CHOOSING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design agency offers a money back guarantee try to keep in mind that they can’t reimburse the amount of time you invest which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many design firms talk a good game but inevitably a design agency can only be evaluated by the quality of their design work, if the work in their design portfolio doesn’t contain real life examples chances are they will not be able to produce a quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s goal is to be recognized and remembered, and it’s goal is to echo your personal vision for your organization. If a designer is not focused on realizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how quickly they can get paid.

Derby LOGO DESIGN

For over twenty years ImageCo has been helping businesses of all kinds grow notable brands. We’ve performed logo design work for mechanics, schools, diamond miners, party planners, restaurants, retail stores, and virtually every other kind of business you can imagine. What makes ImageCo unique compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every logo design project as if it will be employed as an electrical sign. As a result of our sign first strategy our brand identity designs can, and have been utilized in everything from fashion labels to billboards. Our sign first technique insures that our logos are equally effective whether they are used in TV commercials or web headers, they are consistently recognizable, comprehended, and remembered regardless of scale or function.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference that truly sets ImageCo apart from many of the design firms that you might have encountered online, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that each and every design project we are retained to do, we perform ourselves. Regardless of the kind of design project we accept, logo, web page, trade show booth, or electric sign, we do not, and never will job out our customer’s projects to 3rd parties located outside the US. When you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that picks up the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that increases the price of your design project and determines the conditions of how you and I do business.

ASPECTS OF A POWERFUL LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new Derby company knows they probably need a logo, however few start-ups thoroughly understand the essential role their logo design can make in their becoming successful, or exactly why one logo design functions more effectively than another. A logo design has a critical and sustaining effect on the viability of a business, select the correct one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it will be a barrier and an impediment for the longevity of a business. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Derby companies succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not need consideration, they can be comprehended in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from label to billboards a scalable logo design will remain legible and just as emotive at every dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel personal, and they are suitable for the product or company they brand.
  5. Relevance: a business logo must be timeless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s both a verb and a noun, it’s an identifying mark and also the act of marking something to ensure that it could be identified, its origin comes from the mark burned onto animals. These days a brand symbolizes pretty much anything with an intention, regardless of whether it be profit or political parties, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of defining the value of a specific thing in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like advertising and marketing’s attractive sister, they are all from the very same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing have to do with making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest aimed at a target audience, it’s goal is to create an image that the audience can connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured through advertising and marketing and identity design. When someone states the names Lamborghini or Mustang what we think about is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, beauty, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and that is what makes people purchase those brands. Brand image is why individuals purchase most things, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can identify with.

Branding Companies – If you look back at the history of many branding firms you’ll discover that they are frequently re-branded advertising and marketing firms. When somebody states they are in marketing many people will likely have a preconceived notion about the type of work they do anything that can be seen, touched or heard belong to a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a graphic designer that focuses on a type of visual design that helps shape the perception of a firm, a product or a company. Brand identity designers create logo designs, signage designs, product packaging, and collateral products such as business cards, stationery, as well as brochures. Some identity designers also design web sites and software interfaces. The essential duty of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues as well as an emotional tone with the objective of affecting activities, results and also assumptions.

Featured logos & signs

Retro logo style of a bicycle developed for a Derby coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and cafe were launching in an older part of the community and wished to cast an old-fashioned vibe without appearing as boring or low energy. I fulfilled both of these jobs by creating a custom logo concept that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a enduring business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide as well as germs created for Derby medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which studies the causes and outcomes of diseases, especially the field of healthcare that works with the clinical evaluation of specimens of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the only instance I recall where I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Generally I attempt not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, however it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that helps make it more appealing, more focus grabbing and even more unforgettable.

logo style with a jumping eco-friendly frog made for a family members enjoyable center in Derby.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dental practices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to include a couple of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not actually resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a better lively high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they utilized for marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo design including a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, and also a tree - developed for Derby travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche profession due to the fact that travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but rather reveal emotional experiences through the images they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to use negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is representative of the majority of professional photographers in that they often tell entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be conveyed with mere words. I attempted to do something the same to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Derby logo design but also to illustrate the depth in her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Derby logo layout with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of logo design projects that I take on I honestly enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A but the customer, while he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular guy really disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family members did not share his aversion for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage them to discuss it with colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get honest viewpoints on the benefit of a design. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family and they really liked the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logo designs are a strange animal in the design world because the people that tend to hire an expert to create their logo design realize how crucial a logo is for their business so they are way more invested in the result. Every logo job has it’s allotment of obstacles, but the biggest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Derby book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow segment of real estate to work with, but it really is the most critical part of a published book due to the fact that it is usually the very first thing a person views in the book store. For a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity that they will likely ever have to advertise their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with benches customized to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go yet it looks like that in many occurrences 1 of the items people tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small startup commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and while I’m not sure it actually “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to affording a good sense of airline flight and it was surely a success.

Derby logo layout used for advertising and a tag layout for Vintage Situation features an antiquated font style layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for music instruments, that appeared to be vintage cases. For this custom logo design I sought to come up with a logo that offered a fluid retro feel to it and could be used for anything from a web page to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another generation.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Derby, design include an arc with lines converging with it to imply metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logos can be one of the most difficult logo jobs because it appears that every single dental professional features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business advertising, if dining establishments approached their branding in the exact same way dental offices do every one of their logos would be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would most likely have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I really love doing dental logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and subsequently I created a design that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was obvious was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a household not-for-profit, the logo features 4 characters startled in elevation to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the people in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design that communicated that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The aim of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to explain exactly how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If people have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo design that explains itself won’t have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo style developed for a Derby hair layout workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo which conveyed an atmosphere of calmness and elegance for their new hair studio. I created a design that did not go the obvious direction of crafting just a stylized orchid but instead delivered a company logo which suggested an orchid in the pattern of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the name and by putting emphasis on the concept along with the figure of a hummingbird floating over the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is usually the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the emphasis on the perception that they really wanted to forecast to their patrons.

Arabian equine logo style developed for a horse cattle ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed a one-of-a-kind company logo design customized to manifest the unique physical traits of the Arabian type of equines. With an unique head form and high tail posture, the Arabian is one of the very most easily recognizable equine lineages in the world.

Las Cafe, A Derby restaurant logo style a small dining establishment, design consists of a customized script typeface which floats above a team of luxuriant lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a tiny restaurant, design consists of a customized manuscript typeface which hovers above a group of luxuriant lines as well as dots.

Logo style for a software program developer the design features as well as famous Derby component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and disk operations. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it represented something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the symbolism behind a business logo is equally as important as how it serves the enterprise it represents.

Progress logo style developed for a Derbyinterior designer, layout function a series of red circles that converge and also replace the letter O in the center of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Derby interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is an individual who plans, explores, collaborates, and manages such ventures. Interior design is a diverse profession that consists of conceptual development, space planning, location inspections, programming, study, interacting with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction supervision, and execution of the design.

logo style provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Derby, the personalities for letter V and A in middle of the word advanced have been customized to tie straight into words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Derby logo design job was carried out for a leadership guide that assists business professionals to develop into more efficient at managing people, expectations, and productivity.

A Derby business logo design including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly realized the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting retailer that operates as a consignment company. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of passions, a spot to market their secondhand products to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Derby business logo design with a graphic which garners the attention of vehicles and projects an image that evokes the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.

Logo style MQ ranches, this Derby company logo design has actually a field included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem design wasn’t actually designed for an Derby area farm it was really created for a products broker, and this particular company logo was one of multiple that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was really to create a brand mark that projected self-assurance, effectiveness, and wealth.

Derby Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo design attribute for ostensibly facing arrowhead as well as the arrowheads suggest that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what kind of logo design that they wanted, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the freedom to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye in the absence of recognizing where exactly the target is. Thankfully, in this particular case, I nailed a bullseye with the 1st go.

Logo design developed for the use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript font that is evocative a renowned Derby sports group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed quite a lot of restaurant business logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great undertaking in which I worked closely with the owner to develop a business logo which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
