Emporia Logo Design

Each and every new Emporia business understands that they need a logo, but few entrepreneurs fully recognize the key role their business logo will take in their becoming successful, or exactly why one logo design works far better than another. A logo design has an immediate and long-term influence on the growth of a business, select the correct one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, go with the wrong one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of a company. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Emporia companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not require contemplation, they can be comprehended in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable logo design will be legible and equally emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the business they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a logo design must be ageless and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from today.

Retro logo layout of a bicycle developed for a Emporia coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffee bar were opening in an older section of the city and wanted to project a nostalgic tone without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I fulfilled the two jobs by means of designing a company logo design that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo design with a microscope slide and bacteria created for Emporia medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which examines the triggers and effects of diseases, especially the field of medicine which works with the laboratory examination of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is really the only instance I recall where I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Normally I attempt not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a point, this design approaches the company it represents rather literally, but it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that helps make it more intriguing, more focus grabbing and much more memorable.

logo design with a jumping eco-friendly frog created for a household enjoyable center in Emporia.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the sorts of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental offices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the title of the business features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to incorporate a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a much more enthusiastic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I created was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Emporia traveling photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche profession due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead convey emotional journeys through the photos they capture. The idea behind this logo concept was to use negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of almost all professional photographers in that they frequently convey entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness which can’t be conveyed with mere words. I made an effort to do something similar to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Emporia logo design but also to reveal the depth to her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Emporia logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design projects that I take on I honestly savor and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however the customer, while he loved the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man seriously despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his friends and family didn’t share his contempt for this specific variety of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage all of them to talk about it with friends and family as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get honest judgements on the benefit of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they really liked the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logos are a strange animal in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire an expert to create their business logo realize how important a logo design is for their business so they are much more invested in the outcome. Every logo project has it’s share of hurdles, however the largest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, layout for Emporia publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped segment of real estate to work with, but it really is the most critical part of a printed book given that it is often the very first thing a person sees in the book shop. For a publisher, it’s the opportunity that they will ever get to spotlight their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with the bars changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go however it seems that in many occurrences one of the items folks often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest fledgling commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and although I’m not certain it actually “took off” their logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a spirit of flight and it was certainly a victory.

Emporia logo style used for advertising and marketing and a label design for Vintage Instance features an old-fashioned font style style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand-new cases for music instruments, that appeared to be older cases. For this logo design I tried to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid old style feel to it and could be utilized for everything from a website to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another era.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in Emporia, style consist of an arc with lines intersecting through it to suggest metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental business logos can be one of the most difficult logo design projects due to the fact that it appears that each and every dentist includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business branding, if restaurants approached their advertising in the very same way dental professionals do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would probably have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I actually love doing dental logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a specific field of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a concept that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this design over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a family nonprofit, the logo design features 4 personalities surprised in elevation to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization hopes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design that communicated that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The objective of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to describe exactly how people should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If people have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that illustrates itself won’t have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo style created for a hair style workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a company logo which carried a feeling of tranquility and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a design that didn’t go the obvious path of crafting just a stylized orchid but alternatively designed a logo design that implied an orchid in the pattern of a swirl blended into the letter O in the title and by placing attention on the logo design along with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating above the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a logo is in most cases the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the attention on the perception that they wanted to transmit to their clients.

Logo design for a software developer the design features and also famous component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive operations. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a connection in between the software and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it symbolized something to the owner of the business and in many cases the meaning supporting a business logo is equally as important as how it serves the enterprise it stands for.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

A logo layout featuring a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly understood the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment company. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of passions, a location to sell off their used products to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Emporia logo design dsign with an illustration which pulls in the interest of traffic and sends an image that arouses the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and serene habitat.
Logo design MQ farms, this logo style has a field integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand idea wasn’t actually produced for an Emporia area farm it was actually devised for a commodities broker, and this company was one of several which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was to create a graphic that projected esteem, effectiveness, and luxury.
Logo developed for the use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant script typeface that is evocative a well-known sports group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed dozens of restaurant business logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project where I worked closely with the business owner to create a business logo that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
