Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo layout of a bike produced for a coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company

This startup coffee roaster and cafe were launching in an old part of the city and wanted to visualize a vintage tone without appearing as monotonous or low energy. I achieved the two tasks by means of creating a logo concept that incorporates a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a timeless business image.

medical logo layout with a microscope slide and also germs created for medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design Project

Pathology is the science that researches the root causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare that works with the laboratory evaluation of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the sole instance I recall where I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it serves very literally, however it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that helps make it more captivating, more interest grabbing and more unforgettable.

logo design with a jumping environment-friendly frog created for a family enjoyable center.

Cool Springs | Retail Branding Project

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the types of projects that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental practices, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the name of the company has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to incorporate a couple of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better enthusiastic high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they utilized for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I created was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche profession due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead reveal emotional experiences by means of the images they record. The thought behind this logo concept was to utilize negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of most good photographers in that they often share entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be communicated with just words. I attempted to do something comparable to this logo design by making use of the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable logo design but also to illustrate the depth in her art and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design Project

The lion’s share of logo design projects that I take on I seriously relish and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A but my client, while he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy truly hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family did not share his scorn for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I encourage all of them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get unprejudiced assessments on the worthiness of a design. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they adored the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Business logos are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire a professional to design their logo design recognize how essential a logo is for their company so they are way more vested in the result. Every logo design job has it’s share of challenges, however the biggest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a business and also giving the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design Project

The book spine is a slender segment of real estate to work with, but it is the most critical part of a published book given that it is often the initial thing a person sees in the book shop. For a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity that they will ever get to spotlight their brand and get their logo design in front of the men and women that shop for actual books. This 3 color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design Project

Airlines arrive and go yet it seems that in many cases 1 of the items people usually tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small new venture commuter/shuttle airline company situated in LA and although I’m not sure it actually “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to affording a sense of airline flight and it was surely a success.

logo layout made use of for advertising and a tag design for Vintage Instance includes an old font layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design Project

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, that looked to be vintage cases. For this custom logo concept I strove to come up with a logo that offered a fluid old style feel to it and could be utilized for everything from a website to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from a different era.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in, design consist of an arc with lines intersecting through it to indicate metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design Project

Dental business logos can be one of the most difficult logo design jobs due to the fact that it seems that every single dentist incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dental offices do every one of their company logos would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would most likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including an illustration of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry. I actually enjoy doing dentist logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on. Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this particular concept over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.
William McNally logo developed for a family members nonprofit, the logo design features 4 characters startled in elevation to represent a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design Project

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the people in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization hopes to project. The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo design which conveyed that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to illustrate exactly how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If people have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that explains itself will never have the chance to be understood.
Logo design created for a hair design workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird as well as a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a logo which projected an atmosphere of tranquility and class for their new hair salon. I created a design that did not go the obvious route of designing just a stylized orchid but rather delivered a business logo which suggested a flower in the formation of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by putting attention on the logo design along with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a company logo is oftentimes the incorrect path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead placed the attention on the perception that they really wanted to transmit to their clients.
Arabian horse logo layout created for a horse cattle ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design Project

ImageCo created a one-of-a-kind company logo design tailored to illustrate the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of horses. By having an unique head form and high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the highly immediately recognizable horse types in the world.

Logo design for a software program programmer the style features as well as legendary component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design Project

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and drive operations. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge in between the software and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it represented something to the owner of the company and in quite a few cases the significance supporting a logo is just as important as how it serves the enterprise it stands for.

Advance logo layout produced for a interior developer, design attribute a collection of red circles that converge and also change the letter O in the center of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design Project

A logo style featuring a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly understood the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a place to sell their previously owned equipment to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their logo design design utilizing an image that garners the attention of traffic and sends an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I knew it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.

Logo layout MQ farms, this logo design has a field integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design

The MQ farms brand idea wasn’t actually produced for a regional farm it was actually designed for a products broker, and this particular logo was one of multiple that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to develop a graphic that projected trust, success, and wealth.

Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo design attribute for ostensibly encountering arrowhead as well as the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what kind of logo design that they desired, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the liberty to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye without recognizing where the target is. Fortunately, in this case, I struck a bullseye with the 1st shot.

Logo design made for making use of a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font style that is similar to a well-known sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Branding

I’ve crafted loads of restaurant business logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great undertaking where I worked closely with the proprietor to produce a logo design that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
