TIPS FOR FINDING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A business logo is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design agency presents a money back guarantee try to bear in mind that they can’t reimburse the amount of time you commit which is eminently more valuable than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many designers talk a good game but ultimately a design agency can only be judged by the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their design portfolio does not contain actual samples chances are they won’t be able to produce a top quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s aim is to be understood and be unforgettable, and it’s objective is to echo your personal vision for your company. If a designer is not focused on fulfilling your vision, the thing they are really focused on is how fast they can get paid.

Alexandria LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping small business owners cultivate unforgettable brand identities. We’ve done brand identity design work for mechanics, educational institutions, heart surgeons, party planners, coffee shops, retail stores, and virtually every other kind of business concern you can think of. What makes ImageCo unique compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as though it will be utilized as an electric sign. Because of our sign first strategy our logo designs can, and have been utilized in everything from clothing labels to electrical signs. Our sign first technique guarantees that our logo designs are equally reliable whether they are used in television commercials or website headers, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and remembered irrespective of scale or use.

American Made ★ Design

The thing that seriously sets ImageCo apart from other design companies that you might have encountered online, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every project we are contracted to perform, we do in-house. No matter the type of design project we undertake, logo design, website design, trade show exhibit, or retail sign, we do not, and never will farm out our client’s projects to companies based outside the US. When you phone us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that picks up the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that increases the price of your design project and imposes the conditions of how you and I do business.

QUALITIES OF A GOOD LOGO DESIGN

Every new Alexandria organization understands that they probably need a logo, but few start ups thoroughly recognize the key role their organization’s logo will play in their success, or why one logo design performs more effectively than another. A logo design has an immediate and long-term influence on the growth of a company, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be an obstacle and an impediment for the longevity of an organization. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Alexandria companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t require contemplation, they can be comprehended in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable business logo will stay legible and equally emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos which operate on any device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the item or organization they brand.
  5. Relevance: a company logo needs to be enduring and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from today.

understanding branding

Brand – It is both a verb as well as a noun, it’s an identifying mark and the act of noting something to make sure that it can be distinguished, its genesis comes from the brand burned onto animals. These days a brand signifies practically anything with an intention, regardless if it be revenue or politics, a brand is an innate aspect of specifying the value of something in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like marketing and advertising’s sexy sister, they are both from the very same family, the distinction being that advertising and marketing are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity contest directed at a target audience, it’s goal is to create a mental image that the target market can connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured by advertising and marketing and also identity design. When someone states the names Ferrari or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of an automobile with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and brand image is what makes people want those brands. Brand image is why individuals buy specific brands, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can relate to.

Branding Agencies – If you look back at the beginning of a lot of branding firms you’ll discover that they are frequently re-branded marketing agencies. When someone claims they are in marketing most people will likely have an idea about what they do. Yet when somebody states “I’m in branding”… it just seems much more impressive, maybe it’s because the majority of people don’t know what it suggests to be in branding so it comes off as mysterious and kind of attractive.

Brand Identity – Is a comprehensive term that describes the visual aspects of a product or business that affect view points. This mostly consists of the name, the logo, the product packaging, the colors used but can additionally include sound, lights, texture, signage, really anything that can be seen, felt or heard become part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a designer that focuses on a kind of visual design which helps shape the image of a company, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers create logo designs, signage designs, packaging, as well as collateral products such as cards, stationery, as well as sales brochures. Some visual designers also build web sites as well as user interfaces. The essential role of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues as well as a psychological tone with the objective of influencing actions, results and also perceptions.

select SIGNS & LOGOS

Retro logo layout of a bicycle created for a Alexandria coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffee bar were actually opening up in an older part of the area and hoped to cast a nostalgic tone without appearing as boring or low energy. I achieved each of the jobs by means of creating a business logo concept that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo layout with a microscope slide and germs created for Alexandria clinical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that examines the triggers and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of medicine that deals with the clinical examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is the sole instance I recall where I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Typically I try not to be overly literal with a design and to a point, this design approaches the company it serves quite literally, yet it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more captivating, more focus grabbing and even more unforgettable.

logo style with a leaping environment-friendly frog developed for a household fun center in Alexandria.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental practices, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the company has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to feature a couple springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a better lively high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they utilized for marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was turned into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, and a tree - developed for Alexandria traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche area due to the fact that travel photographers don’t capture places or things but instead convey emotional journeys by means of the photos they capture. The thought behind this logo design was to use negative space to convey more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of most professional photographers in that they often tell whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be revealed with mere words. I made an effort to do something comparable to this logo by making use of the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Alexandria logo but also to illustrate the depth of her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Alexandria logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design projects that I take on I genuinely savor and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I certainly felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A but my customer, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular man truly despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family members did not share his scorn for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I urge all of them to share it with friends and family as well as with people that they don’t even know so as to get unprejudiced opinions on the benefit of a concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they really loved the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Business logos are a strange creature in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to design their business logo understand how vital a logo is for their business so they are much more vested in the final result. Every logo job has it’s allotment of obstacles, however the most significant challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for Alexandria publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender piece of real estate to work with, yet it is the most crucial part of a printed book because it is often the very first thing a person views in the bookstore. For a publisher, it’s the absolute best opportunity they will ever have to advertise their label and get their logo design in front of the men and women that buy actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo developed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with the bars modified to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go nevertheless it looks like that in many occurrences one of the items individuals tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small new venture commuter/shuttle air service located in LA and although I’m not certain it really “took off” their logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to affording a feeling of flight and it was undoubtedly a success.

Alexandria logo style made use of for advertising and also a tag layout for Vintage Situation features an old typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for musical instruments, that looked to be antique cases. For this brand concept I strove to come up with a logo that provided a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be utilized for anything from a web site to an insignia on brand new cases that looked like they were from a different point in time.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Alexandria, layout consist of an arc with lines converging with it to suggest metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care business logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design jobs considering that it seems that every single dental professional involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry business logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to small business marketing, if restaurants approached their branding in the exact same way dental professionals do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would likely include an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind incorporating an illustration of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo design but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I actually love doing dental care logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and eventually I created a design that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was evident was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo made for a household nonprofit, the logo features 4 characters surprised in elevation to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are downplayed and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The aim of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to illustrate specifically how people should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If viewers have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo that illustrates itself will never have the opportunity to be understood.

Logo layout produced for a Alexandria hair layout workshop including a script font a hummingbird as well as an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a logo which related a sense of relaxation and class for their new hair salon. I created a concept which didn’t go the obvious path of designing merely a stylized orchid but alternatively created a company logo that implied an orchid in the formation of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by putting emphasis on the concept along with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the image itself. The obvious path in creating a business logo is generally the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead put the importance on the perception that they really wanted to transmit to their clients.

Arabian steed logo style produced for a steed ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian show equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo created a one-of-a-kind custom logo concept styled to display the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of equines. By having a distinctive head shape and high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most quite easily recognizable equine breeds in the world.

Las Cafe, A Alexandria restaurant logo layout a tiny dining establishment, design contains a customized script font style which floats above a team of luxuriant lines as well as dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a tiny dining establishment, style consists of a modified manuscript typeface which hovers over a team of elaborate lines and also dots.

Logo layout for a software application developer the style features as well as legendary Alexandria aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and drive management. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that serves as a bridge in between the software and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to identify anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it intimated something to the owner of the company and in quite a few cases the substance supporting a company logo is just as important as how it serves the enterprise it represents.

Progress logo layout created for a Alexandriainterior developer, layout attribute a series of red circles that intersect and also change the letter O in the middle of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Alexandria interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is an individual who prepares, researches, coordinates, and manages such projects. logo layout done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Alexandria, the personalities for letter V and also A in center of words advanced have been changed to connect straight right into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Alexandria logo design project was performed for a management advisor that assists business professionals to become more successful at handling people, expectations, and profitability.

A Alexandria business logo design featuring an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly recognized the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment company. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a place to market their pre-owned products to other sports enthusiasts.

I created their Alexandria business logo design using an illustration that garners the interest of traffic and sends an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo style MQ ranches, this Alexandria company logo layout has a field incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo design wasn’t actually produced for an Alexandria area farm it was in reality created for a commodities broker, and this particular brand was one of a handful of which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was to make a graphic that projected assurance, success, and prosperity.

Alexandria Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo style attribute for outwardly dealing with arrowhead and the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design that they would like, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the opportunity to explore any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye without understanding where the target is. Luckily, in this particular case, I struck a bullseye with the first shot.

Logo design designed for making use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font style that is similar to a well-known Alexandria sporting activities team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted loads of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the US, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked closely with the proprietor to develop a logo design which worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated sign that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
