Memorable Logos That Tell Stories and Connect Emotionally

Developing a brand identity or a custom logo design that is both memorable and expresses the story about who you are or what you do is a massive endeavor. The challenge is to make a logo design which is simple enough to be understood at a glance and conveys enough information that it can communicate who you are. However no logo design can genuinely tell your story or explain your organization, and travelling down that path usually produces a logo design that accomplishes neither. However, in skilled hands, it is possible to strike a balance between both and create a logo that both informs and emotes and reaching that sweet spot is what your business should wish for from their logo designer.

ImageCo is one person, Tim Garner, I am a free lance branding specialist. For over 20 years I ‘ve been designing unforgettable logos and brand identity designs that tell stories and resonate with viewers. However don’t take my word for it, just check out my portfolio and see for yourself. I don’t assert that I am the greatest logo designer in the world, however, I do know what I’m doing and my clients tend to agree.

A LOGO IS NOT YOUR BRAND

The expression “your logo is not your brand” is a statement that is often stated with such fervor by individuals operating in the branding sector, that a person might question why so many people in branding firms dislike logo designs as much as they appear to. It is quite true that your logo is not your brand, however what does that mean for a brand that has no logo? One thing is certain, it ensures that a brand with no logo will be faceless and quickly forgotten.

Without a visual identity, an organization’s brand is simply nothing more than a fading memory because people would have virtually nothing to anchor their experiences too.

Some people compare a logo to a smile or a handshake which is somewhat true, however it’s also much more than that. A logo is a brand’s anchor and it also acts as the cornerstone of a business’s brand. A logo functions as an anchor due to the fact that the entire brand experience is anchored to it. It is also a brand’s cornerstone, because a cornerstone is the first stone laid when constructing the foundation of the structure above it, and once laid it will serve as the guiding reference point for every thing that comes after it. A logo works in the same way, it is a foundational element that supports the business it represents, and it also serves as a defining reference point that helps guide a brand as it expands.

ImageCo is a brand identity agency and our goal is to aid our customers lay that cornerstone as well as drop that anchor. We help companies look established, more polished, and more experienced. This ensures that our clients will always be taken seriously, and are not only entitled to a seat at the table, but look like they ought to be seated at the head of that table.

New Iberia LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping small business owners cultivate unforgettable brands. We have undertaken branding work for mechanics, schools, diamond miners, party planners, bistros, retail stores, and practically every other kind of business you can think of. What makes ImageCo unique compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every branding project as though it will be utilized as an electric sign. Because of our sign first approach our brand identity designs can, and have been employed in everything from fashion labels to neon signs. Our sign first method ensures that our logos are equally successful whether they are used in television commercials or website headers, they are consistently recognizable, understood, and always remembered no matter of scale or purpose.

American Made ★ Design

The thing which truly sets ImageCo apart from many of the design agencies that you may have stumbled upon on-line, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every design project we are hired to do, we do in-house. Regardless of the kind of project we undertake, logo design, website design, trade show display, or retail sign, we do not, and never will job-out our client’s work to companies based outside the United States. When you phone us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that answers the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not an agent that increases the cost of your project and determines the conditions of how you and I conduct business.

QUALITIES OF A GREAT LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new New Iberia organization realizes that they require a logo, but few start ups thoroughly realize the pivotal role their company logo can play in their financial success, or exactly why one logo design performs better than another. A logo design has a critical and lasting effect on the growth of a business, go with the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, choose the wrong one and it can be an obstacle and a hindrance for the longevity of a business.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help New Iberia companies succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 traits in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not need deliberation, they can be comprehended in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from label to store signs a scalable logo design will be legible and equally emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos which work on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the product or organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo should be timeless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

understanding branding

Brand – It is both a verb and also a noun, it is an identifying mark and also the act of noting something to make sure that it could be recognized, its genesis comes from the mark burned onto livestock. Nowadays a brand indicates basically anything with a motive, regardless of whether it be revenue or politics, a brand is an innate aspect of defining the value of something in the consumer’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like advertising and marketing’s attractive sister, they are all from the exact same family, the difference being that advertising and marketing have to do with making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest targeted at a specific audience, it’s objective is to produce an image that the target market will likely connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated by advertising and marketing and identity design. When a person states the names Ferrari or Corvette what we think about is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a vehicle with 4 wheels that can deliver us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of speed, beauty, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and brand image is what makes individuals want those brands. Brand image is why individuals purchase most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Agencies – If you look back at the beginning of a lot of branding firms you’ll discover that they are often rebranded marketing and advertising companies. When someone claims they are in marketing lots of people will likely have a preconceived notion about what they do. But when someone states “I am in branding”… it simply sounds much more attractive, maybe it’s because most people do not recognize what it indicates to be in branding so it comes off as mysterious and perhaps even attractive.

Brand Identity – Is an inclusive term that describes the visual elements of a product or company that influence view points. This mainly consists of the name, the logo design, the packaging, the colors used however can additionally consist of sound, illumination, texture, signs, just about anything that can be seen, touched or listened to become part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a kind of visual design which helps form the image of a business, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, signage designs, packaging, as well as collateral products such as business cards, stationery, and pamphlets. Some visual designers also develop sites and user interfaces. The important function of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and also a psychological tone with the goal of influencing actions, end results as well as perceptions.

Featured logos & signs

Retro logo layout of a bicycle developed for a New Iberia coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually opening in an older part of the town and really wanted to visualize a vintage tone without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I fulfilled the two tasks via creating a trademark design that features a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a timeless business image.

clinical logo design with a microscope slide as well as bacteria developed for New Iberia medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that examines the causes and consequences of diseases, especially the field of medicine that deals with the clinical examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the only instance I remember in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Generally I attempt not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a point, this design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, but it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that makes it more appealing, more interest grabbing and a lot more memorable.

logo design with a jumping green frog designed for a family members enjoyable facility in New Iberia.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental experts, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have actually ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to include a few springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a more enthusiastic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for marketing and advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - created for New Iberia travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche profession because travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but instead convey emotional journeys through the photos they capture. The idea behind this logo composition was to use negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is representative of the majority of good photographers in that they often convey entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance that can’t be revealed with just words. I tried to do something comparable to this logo by making use of the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  New Iberia logo but also to show the depth in her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

New Iberia logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail business.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design jobs that I take on I genuinely savor and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however the customer, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular man truly despised seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his friends and family did not share his contempt for this specific breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge them to discuss it with colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get impartial point of views on the worthiness of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his family and they loved the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Logos are a weird creature in the design world because the people that tend to hire a professional to design their logo recognize how important a logo design is for their business so they are way more invested in the result. Every logo design project has it’s portion of difficulties, but the greatest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a company and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, style for New Iberia publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin parcel of real estate to work with, but it is the most vital part of a printed book since it is often the initial thing a person sees in the book shop. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the absolute best opportunity that they will likely ever have to promote their label and get their logo design in front of the men and women that buy actual books.

This three color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches customized to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart yet it looks like that in many instances one of the items people often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest start-up commuter/shuttle air service based in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their business logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a spirit of airline flight and it was surely a victory.

New Iberia logo style utilized for marketing as well as a label design for Vintage Case includes an antiquated font style style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for musical instruments, which appeared to be much older cases. For this custom logo design I strove to come up with a logo that provided a fluid retro feel to it and could be utilized for every thing from a website to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another era.

Logo created for an orthodontist in New Iberia, layout consist of an arc with lines converging via it to suggest steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care business logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design projects because it seems that each and every dental professional includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business marketing, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dental offices do every one of their logos would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would probably include an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I really love doing dental care logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and eventually I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was evident was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design developed for a household not-for-profit, the logo features 4 personalities staggered in height to represent a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wants to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo design that communicated that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The goal of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to explain exactly how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If you have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo that explains itself will never have the opportunity to be understood.

Logo layout created for a New Iberia hair layout workshop featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and also a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a business logo that projected a sense of tranquility and connection for their new hair studio. I came up with a concept which didn’t go the obvious route of creating just a stylized orchid but rather crafted a logo that suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl incorporated in to the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept using the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering above the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is frequently the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately laid the attention on the emotion that they really wanted to transmit to their patrons.

Arabian horse logo design created for an equine cattle ranch that focuses on reproducing Arabian program horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo developed a one-of-a-kind company logo design styled to display the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of horses. With an identifiable head shape and high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most quite easily identifiable horse breeds in the world.

Las Cafe, A New Iberia restaurant logo layout a tiny restaurant, layout consists of a changed script font style which hovers above a group of luxuriant lines and also dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo style a tiny restaurant, style includes a modified script font style which hovers above a team of elaborate lines and dots.

Logo layout for a software program developer the style functions and famous New Iberia aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and disk management. The kernel attaches the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a bridge in between the software program and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it symbolized something to the owner of the business and in many cases the significance behind a company logo is just as important as how it brands the organization it represents.

Advance logo layout created for a New Iberiainterior designer, style attribute a series of red circles that intersect and replace the letter O in the center of the logo layout.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a New Iberia interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is somebody who plans, researches, coordinates, and oversees such ventures. Interior design is a diverse profession that consists of conceptual development, space planning, location evaluations, programming, research study, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction supervision, and implementation of the design.

logo style done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in New Iberia, the characters for letter V and also A in center of the word advanced have been changed to tie straight right into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This New Iberia logo design job was carried out for a management advisor that assists business professionals to develop into more efficient at supervising people, expectations, and productivity.

A New Iberia business logo style featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the founders of On the Fly realized the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a place to sell off their pre-owned items to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their New Iberia business logo design with a graphic that garners the attention of traffic and sends an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo design MQ ranches, this New Iberia company logo design has actually an area integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms logo concept wasn’t really developed for an New Iberia area farm it was in reality created for a commodities broker, and this business logo was one of multiple which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The aim was really to design an identity that projected trust, effectiveness, and prosperity.

New Iberia Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo layout feature for externally dealing with arrowhead and the arrowheads imply that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what type of logo design they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the flexibility to explore any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s hard to hit a bullseye without understanding where the target is. Fortunately, in this instance, I hit a bullseye with the very first go.

Logo design developed for making use of a sign for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font that is similar to a famous New Iberia sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed dozens of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project where I worked closely with the business owner to develop a business logo that worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
