Arbutus Logo Design

Each and every new Arbutus business understands that they need a logo, but few entrepreneurs entirely grasp the key role their logo design will make in their success, or exactly why one logo design functions more effectively than another. A logo design has a critical and lasting effect on the prosperity of a company, select the right one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the life span of an organization. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Arbutus companies prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t demand contemplation, they can be understood in merely a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable business logo will be legible and equally emotive at any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the business they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a logo design must be ageless and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from today.

Retro logo design of a bike produced for a Arbutus coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and cafe were actually opening up in an older part of the town and hoped to visualize a nostalgic vibe without coming across as monotonous or low energy. I accomplished the two jobs via creating a custom logo concept that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo layout with a microscope slide as well as bacteria created for Arbutus medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which researches the root causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare that deals with the laboratory examination of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the sole instance I remember in which I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Typically I try not to be overly literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents rather literally, yet it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that helps make it more captivating, more attention grabbing and a lot more memorable.

logo style with a jumping eco-friendly frog developed for a family members enjoyable facility in Arbutus.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental professionals, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the title of the business has the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to include a couple of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a better dynamic high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a group of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, and also a tree - developed for Arbutus travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche speciality due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to capture locations or things but instead reveal emotional journeys by means of the images they capture. The idea behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is quintessential of most good photographers in that they oftentimes tell whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a lot more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be communicated with mere words. I attempted to do something the same to this logo by making use of the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Arbutus logo but also to illustrate the depth to her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Arbutus logo design with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of logo design projects that I take on I seriously relish and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however my customer, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man truly loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family members didn’t share his aversion for this particular kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I urge them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t actually know so as to get neutral opinions on the benefit of a design. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they really liked the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Logo designs are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire an expert to design their logo realize how essential a logo design is for their business so they are way more invested in the end result. Every logo design project has it’s share of obstacles, but the biggest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a company and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, layout for Arbutus book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped piece of real estate to work with, yet it is the most important part of a published book since it is ordinarily the initial thing a person sees in the bookstore. Concerning a publisher, it’s the opportunity that they will likely ever have to publicize their product and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo developed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with the bars changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go but it seems like that in many cases 1 of the traits folks tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest fledgling commuter/shuttle air service based in LA and while I’m not sure it actually “took off” their business logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to conferring a feeling of flight and it was certainly a success.

Arbutus logo style used for marketing and also a tag layout for Vintage Instance includes an old font style style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for music instruments, that seemed to be vintage cases. For this brand design I attempted to come up with a logo that had a fluid retro feel to it and could easily be used for everything from a website to a label on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another generation.

Logo design produced for an orthodontist in Arbutus, design include an arc with lines converging with it to imply metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental business logos can easily be one of the most challenging logo design projects because it seems that virtually every dentist integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to company branding, if restaurants approached their branding in the very same way dental practitioners do every one of their company logos would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would most likely include an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I really love doing dentist logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and ultimately I created a layout that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this concept over to the client the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 personalities surprised in height to stand for a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the folks in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be far too literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization hopes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo design which conveyed that they were about families without being overtly tacky about it. The objective of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to describe exactly how people should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If people have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo design that illustrates itself will never have the likelihood to be understood.

Logo design created for a hair design workshop featuring a script font a hummingbird as well as an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a logo design which projected a feeling of ease and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a design that didn’t go the obvious direction of making simply a stylized orchid but rather crafted a business logo that implied a flower in the formation of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the name and by placing emphasis on the logo design with the figure of a hummingbird floating over the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is generally the wrong route and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead laid the focus on the perception that they wanted to project to their clients.

Logo design for a software program designer the design attributes and also legendary aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and hard drive operations. The kernel attaches the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection between the software and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it intimated something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the substance supporting a company logo is just as important as how it serves the enterprise it stands for.

logo design done for Advanced Leadership Solutions, the personalities for letter V and A in middle of words progressed have been modified to connect straight right into the words listed below.

A logo design including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly recognized the market place was primed for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a place to sell their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Arbutus logo dsign using an image that garners the interest of traffic and sends an image that evokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.
Logo layout MQ ranches, this logo design has actually an area included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms logo idea wasn’t really composed for an Arbutus area farm it was actually created for an investments broker, and this company was one of multiple which fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to make a graphic that projects confidence, success, and prosperity.
Logo made for making use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant script typeface that is similar to a popular sporting activities group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have crafted quite a lot of restaurant custom logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project in which I worked closely with the business owner to create a logo which worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
