Marlborough, Massachusetts Logo Design

Each and every new Marlborough business understands that they need a logo, however few new business owners thoroughly realize the key role their logo will take in their success, or exactly why one logo works better than another. A logo design has an immediate and long term influence on the growth of a business, pick the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, choose the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the longevity of a business.

The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Marlborough, Massachusetts businesses succeed, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these five features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t demand deliberation, they can be comprehended in just a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from labels to billboards a scalable business logo will be legible and just as emotive at virtually any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that function on any device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are personal, and they are suitable for the company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo needs to be ageless and should feel as relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from now.
Retro logo style of a bicycle developed for a Marlborough, Massachusetts coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and coffee bar were opening up in an older part of town and hoped to visualize a nostalgic tone without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I accomplished each of the tasks via designing a trademark concept that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

clinical logo style with a microscopic lense slide and also bacteria developed for Marlborough, Massachusetts medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that investigates the triggers and consequences of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare which deals with the laboratory evaluation of samplings of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic objectives.

The Mid-Valley Pathology brand I came up with is the sole instance I recall where I was in a position to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a business logo design.

Generally I try not to be extremely literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents rather literally, but it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more appealing, more attention grabbing and much more memorable.

logo layout with a jumping eco-friendly frog created for a family members fun facility in Marlborough, Massachusetts.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dental offices, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to incorporate a couple of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a much more dynamic high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a trail, a stream, and also a tree - made for Marlborough, Massachusetts travel professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche sector because travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead communicate emotional journeys through the images they record. The idea behind this logo design was to make use of negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of most good photographers in that they often tell entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be conveyed with mere words. I made an effort to do something very similar to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Marlborough logo design but also to illustrate the depth to her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Marlborough logo layout with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of business logo design projects that I take on I really enjoy and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A but the client, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man truly hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family did not share his aversion for this particular breed of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I encourage them to talk about it with colleagues and family members as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get honest assessments on the benefit of a design concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they loved the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Business logos are a weird animal in the design world because the people that have a tendency to hire a professional to design their business logo comprehend how essential a logo is for their organization so they are much more vested in the outcome. Every logo job has it’s portion of hurdles, but the biggest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the client the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Marlborough, Massachusetts publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped parcel of real estate to work with, yet it really is the most essential part of a published book since it is ordinarily the first thing a person sees in the book shop. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the opportunity they will likely ever get to advertise their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that shop for actual books.

This three color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design made for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with the bars changed to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart nevertheless it seems that in many cases 1 of the traits people usually tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small start-up commuter/shuttle air service based in LA and although I’m not sure it actually “took off” their business logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a feeling of air travel and it was surely a victory.

Marlborough logo layout made use of for marketing as well as a tag layout for Vintage Situation features an old-fashioned typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand new cases for music instruments, which looked to be older cases. For this logo concept I strove to come up with a logo that provided a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be utilized for every thing from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that looked like they were from another era.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in Marlborough, Massachusetts, layout consist of an arc with lines intersecting via it to suggest steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logo designs can easily be one of the most challenging logo projects because it seems that each and every dental professional involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to company advertising, if dining establishments approached their branding in the very same way dental professionals do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would likely have an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including an image of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really love doing dentist logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular area of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a layout that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular design over to the client the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design made for a family nonprofit, the logo design includes 4 characters surprised in height to stand for a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be illustrative of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization hopes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a logo design which conveyed that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The aim of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo to illustrate precisely how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If people have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that illustrates itself won’t have the chance to be understood.

Logo design produced for a hair layout workshop featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a logo design that conveyed a spirit of serenity and connection for their new hair studio. I created a concept which did not go the obvious path of making just a stylized orchid but alternatively created a company logo that implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by putting attention on the concept along with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering above the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is in most cases the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead placed the attention on the feeling that they really wanted to transmit to their clients.

Logo style for a software programmer the layout attributes and legendary element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and disk management. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection in between the software and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it represented something to the owner of the company and in quite a few cases the meaning supporting a logo is equally as important as how it serves the company it represents.

A logo style including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the owners of On the Fly recognized the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting store that operates as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a place to sell off their previously owned products to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Marlborough logo dsign utilizing an illustration that pulls in the attention of vehicles and sends an image that arouses the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and calm habitat.
Logo style MQ ranches, this logo layout has a field included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms logo idea wasn’t really produced for an Marlborough, Massachusetts area farm it was actually created for an investments broker, and this particular logo design was one of a handful of that fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was actually to create a image that projected self-confidence, success, and luxury.

Marlborough Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Point Solutions - the logo design attribute for outwardly dealing with arrow and also the arrowheads imply that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design that they would like, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the flexibility to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye in the absence of realizing where the target is. Fortunately, in this particular instance, I nailed a bullseye with the 1st shot.

Logo designed for the use of an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant script typeface that is similar to a popular sports group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created loads of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking in which I worked closely with the owner to develop a logo that worked very well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
