STRATEGIES ON PICKING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design agency presents a money back guarantee try to remember that they can not refund the time you commit which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many designers talk a good game but in the end a design agency can only be judged by the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their portfolio does not contain real world examples chances are they will not be able to produce a premium logo design.

VISION

A logo’s goal is to be recognized and be unforgettable, and it’s purpose is to mirror your unique vision for your company. If a designer is not focused on actualizing your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how fast they will get paid.

Berkley LOGO DESIGN

For over 20 years ImageCo has been helping business owners cultivate unforgettable brands. We have done brand design work for farmers, colleges, diamond miners, party planners, bistros, retailers, and practically every other kind of business concern you can imagine. What makes us unique compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as if it will be used as an electrical sign. As a result of our sign first technique our logo designs can, and have been employed in everything from garment labels to electrical signs. Our sign first approach guarantees that our logos are equally effective whether they are used in TV commercials or web apps, they are consistently identifiable, understood, and always remembered irrespective of size or application.

American Made ★ Design

Something that truly sets ImageCo apart from many of the design firms that you might possibly have found in Google’s search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every design project we are enlisted to do, we perform in-house. No matter the type of design project we take on, brand identity design, web site, trade show exhibition, or commercial sign, we do not, and never will farm out our customer’s projects to companies located outside the US. When you call us at 1-855-IMAGECO the individual that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a middleman that increases the price of your design project and determines the conditions of how you and I do business.

QUALITIES OF A POWERFUL LOGO DESIGN

Virtually every new Berkley entrepreneur knows they probably need a logo, yet few start ups entirely realize the essential role their logo can perform in their financial success, or exactly why one logo design works more effectively than another. A company logo has an immediate and long term effect on the prosperity of a business, choose the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be a barrier and a hindrance for the life of a business. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Berkley businesses succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t need scrutiny, they can be grasped in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from label to billboards a scalable business logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the item or organization they brand.
  5. Relevance: a company logo must be lasting and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is both a verb and a noun, it’s an identifying mark and also the act of denoting something to ensure that it can be recognized, its origin originates from the brand branded onto animals. These days a brand symbolizes basically anything with an objective, regardless of whether it be earnings or politics, a brand is an intrinsic aspect of defining the worth of a specific thing in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like marketing and advertising’s sexy sister, they are both from the same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity contest aimed at a specific audience, it’s objective is to produce an image that the audience will connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated through advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When somebody states the names Porsche or Corvette what we think about is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can carry us from point A to point B, the the mental image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and exotic . That is brand image and brand image is what makes individuals buy those brands. Brand image is why individuals identify with specific brands, from Pepsi to Coke Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can relate to.

Branding Firms – If you look back at the history of the majority of branding agencies you’ll find that they are often rebranded advertising and marketing firms. When somebody claims they are in marketing lots of people will likely have a preconceived notion about what they do. However when someone states “I am in branding”… it simply seems much more impressive, maybe it’s due to the fact that lots of people don’t know what it implies to be in branding so it comes off as more mysterious and even sexy.

Brand Identity – Is an inclusive term that defines the visual components of a product or business that affect view points. This largely consists of the name, the logo design, the product packaging, the different colors used but can also include sound, lighting, texture, signs, really anything that can be seen, touched or heard are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designer
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that specializes in a kind of visual design that helps shape the image of a firm, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, signage designs, product packaging, as well as collateral products such as cards, stationery, and also pamphlets. Some identity designers also develop web sites and also user interfaces. The crucial duty of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and also an emotional tone with the goal of influencing actions, results and also understandings.

select logos & signs

Retro logo style of a bike produced for a Berkley coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee bar were opening in an old section of the town and really wanted to cast an old-fashioned atmosphere without coming across as monotonous or low energy. I fulfilled both of these tasks by means of developing a trademark design that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide as well as germs created for Berkley medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which researches the root causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare that works with the clinical examination of samples of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the sole instance I remember in which I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Generally I attempt not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents very literally, however it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that helps make it more captivating, more interest grabbing and a lot more memorable.

logo layout with a jumping green frog created for a family fun center in Berkley.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the usual of the kinds of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for physicians, dentists, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to feature a couple of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a better enthusiastic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they used for advertising and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I designed was turned into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

photography logo design including a flock of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, and a tree - developed for Berkley traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I believe it is a niche profession due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot places or things but rather project emotional experiences through the pictures they capture. The thought behind this logo composition was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is representative of most professional photographers in that they often share entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance that can’t be communicated with mere words. I attempted to do something the same to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Berkley logo but also to illustrate the depth of her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Berkley logo layout with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of logo design jobs that I take on I genuinely relish and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, but the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the letter A however the customer, while he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man really disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family did not share his hatred for this particular type of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I urge all of them to share it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with other people that they don’t even know so as to get unprejudiced judgements on the value of a design. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they really liked the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Custom logo designs are a weird animal in the design world because the people that tend to hire an expert to create their business logo understand how important a logo is for their organization so they are way more vested in the outcome. Every logo job possesses it’s share of hurdles, but the greatest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo in the background, layout for Berkley book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow segment of real estate to work with, but it really is the most vital part of a printed book considering that it is ordinarily the initial thing a person views in the book shop. Regarding a publisher, it’s the best opportunity that they will ever have to advertise their brand and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go however it looks like that in many instances one of the aspects individuals often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small new venture commuter/shuttle air service based in LA and although I’m not certain it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to imparting a feeling of flight and it was certainly a success.

Berkley logo design used for marketing as well as a tag style for Vintage Case features an old font design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand-new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be much older cases. For this logo concept I tried to come up with a logo that provided a fluid retro feel to it and could easily be utilized for anything from a web site to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different era.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Berkley, layout consist of an arc with lines intersecting through it to suggest metal braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care business logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design projects due to the fact that it seems that almost every dentist features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the very most cliche ridden careers when it comes to business branding, if dining establishments approached their branding in the exact same way dentists do every one of their logo designs would be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would probably contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including an illustration of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I really love doing dental logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a specific field of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and inevitably I created a design that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design developed for a family nonprofit, the logo design includes 4 personalities startled in elevation to represent a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the residents in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution wishes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to explain precisely how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If viewers have to ponder a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that describes itself will never have the opportunity to be understood.

Logo layout developed for a Berkley hair design workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a business logo that conveyed a spirit of peace and class for their new hair salon. I came up with a design that did not go the obvious path of creating just a stylized orchid but alternatively designed a company logo that implied a flower in the formation of a swirl incorporated into the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept using the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is oftentimes the wrong direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but alternately put the focus on the emotion that they wanted to project to their patrons.

Arabian steed logo layout developed for a steed ranch that focuses on reproducing Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed a distinct custom logo design fashioned to symbolize the unique physical traits of the Arabian breed of equines. By having an unique head form and very high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the very most easily identifiable equine lineages in the world.

Las Cafe, A Berkley restaurant logo layout a tiny restaurant, design consists of a modified manuscript font style which floats over a group of elaborate lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo style a tiny restaurant, style includes a changed manuscript font style which floats over a group of ornate lines and dots.

Logo layout for a software program developer the design functions and iconic Berkley component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and hard drive management. The kernel links the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that performs as a bridge in between the software and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. Nevertheless it intimated something to the owner of the business and in many cases the symbolism behind a logo design is equally as important as how it brands the business it stands for.

Evolve logo design developed for a Berkleyindoor developer, style function a collection of red circles that converge and also replace the letter O in the middle of the logo design.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Berkley interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is an individual who arranges, explores, coordinates, and oversees such tasks. Interior design is a diverse occupation that includes conceptual development, space planning, site examinations, programming, analysis, interacting with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction management, and implementation of the design.

logo layout done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Berkley, the characters for letter V as well as A in middle of the word progressed have actually been modified to link directly into words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Berkley logo design assignment was done for a management expert that enables business leaders to develop into more efficient at supervising people, expectations, and profitability.

A Berkley business logo layout including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly knew the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a spot to sell their pre-owned items to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Berkley business logo design along with an illustration which garners the attention of traffic and sends an image that calls to mind the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo design MQ farms, this Berkley company logo layout has an area incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand idea wasn’t really developed for an Berkley regional farm it was actually created for a products broker, and this particular company was one of a handful of that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was actually to design a graphic that projects self-confidence, success, and luxury.

Berkley Logo design for a nonprofit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo style attribute for externally dealing with arrowhead as well as the arrowheads indicate that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what kind of logo design they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the flexibility to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye without realizing where exactly the target is. Luckily, in this particular instance, I nailed a bullseye with the 1st go.

Logo design developed for using a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font style that is reminiscent of a well-known Berkley sports group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created quite a lot of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the US, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking in which I worked closely with the business owner to produce a business logo that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
