Birmingham Logo Design

Nearly every new Birmingham business knows they need a logo, yet few new business owners entirely realize the essential role their organization logo will perform in their becoming successful, or the reason that one logo performs more effectively than another. A logo design has an instant and lasting influence on the growth of a business, go with the correct one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of a company. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Birmingham businesses prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the reason why they are so effective is that they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t demand consideration, they can be grasped in merely a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable business logo will stay legible and just as emotive at any scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any type of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are personal, and they are suitable for the company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a company logo needs to be lasting and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from today.

Retro logo design of a bicycle developed for a Birmingham coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This fledgling coffee roaster and coffee shop were actually launching in an old part of the city and wanted to visualize a vintage vibe without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I accomplished both jobs by means of developing a sign design that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo design with a microscopic lense slide and also bacteria designed for Birmingham medical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which studies the root causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of medicine which works with the clinical evaluation of samplings of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I recollect where I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be excessively literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents rather literally, but it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that makes it more intriguing, more focus grabbing and much more unforgettable.

logo design with a jumping eco-friendly frog created for a family members enjoyable facility in Birmingham.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for health care providers, dental professionals, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to incorporate a handful of springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a more dynamic high energy feel.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, and a tree - developed for Birmingham travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector because travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead reveal emotional journeys by means of the photos they record. The thought behind this logo design was to utilize negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of almost all good photographers in that they frequently share entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be communicated with just words. I made an effort to do something the same to this logo by making use of the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Birmingham logo but also to show the depth to her art and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Birmingham logo style with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail organisation.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of logo design jobs that I take on I seriously take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the character A but my customer, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy seriously hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family didn’t share his scorn for this particular kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I urge them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with individuals that they don’t even know so as to get unprejudiced viewpoints on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his whole family and they really liked the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logos are a weird animal in the design world because the people that tend to hire an expert to create their logo design comprehend how important a logo is for their organization so they are much more invested in the result. Every logo design job has it’s share of difficulties, however the biggest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Birmingham book author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin piece of real estate to work with, yet it is the most critical part of a printed book because it is usually the primary thing a person sees in the book shop. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the absolute best opportunity they will likely ever have to publicize their brand and get their logo design in front of the individuals that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with benches changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart yet it looks like that in many occurrences 1 of the things folks tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young fledgling commuter/shuttle air service located in LA and while I’m not certain it actually “took off” their custom logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to imparting a good sense of flight and it was undoubtedly a winner.

Birmingham logo style utilized for advertising and also a tag layout for Vintage Situation includes an old font design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for music instruments, which appeared to be older cases. For this brand design I strove to come up with a logo that had a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could be used for every thing from a web site to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from another point in time.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Birmingham, layout include an arc with lines converging through it to imply metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental business logos can be one of the most challenging logo jobs because it seems that virtually every dental professional includes a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to company advertising, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the very same way dentists do every one of their logo designs would be a picture trying to explain anything they served, McDonalds would most likely include an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care profession.

I really enjoy doing dentistry business logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain area of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and eventually I created a design that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo made for a household not-for-profit, the logo design includes 4 characters surprised in height to represent a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation contacted ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the families in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wishes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly tacky about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to illustrate specifically how people should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If viewers have to ponder a logo design to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo design that explains itself will never have the likelihood to be comprehended.

Logo design produced for a hair layout workshop including a script font a hummingbird as well as a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a logo which projected a spirit of tranquility and class for their new hair salon. I came up with a design that did not go the obvious direction of designing merely a stylized orchid but rather created a company logo that suggested a flower in the pattern of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the title and by placing attention on the concept using the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is oftentimes the incorrect course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead put the focus on the emotion that they wanted to forecast to their patrons.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Logo layout for a software designer the style attributes as well as renowned component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and drive management. The kernel links the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that functions as a bridge in between the software program and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a couple of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it symbolized something to the owner of the business and in quite a few cases the significance behind a company logo is just as important as how it brands the business it represents.

A logo layout including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly realized the market was primed for an outdoor sporting retailer that operates as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a location to sell off their previously owned products to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Birmingham business logo dsign along with an illustration which garners the attention of vehicles and projects an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.
Logo layout MQ farms, this logo style has an area integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo idea wasn’t really produced for an Birmingham area farm it was in reality developed for an investments broker, and this particular company logo was one of many which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was really to generate a brand mark that projects confidence, effectiveness, and affluence.
Logo created for making use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate manuscript font style that is evocative a famous sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed dozens of restaurant logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project where I worked directly with the proprietor to produce a logo design which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
