TIPS FOR PICKING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo design is an investment in both your time and your money so whenever a design agency presents a money back guarantee try to remember that they can not reimburse the time you commit which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Some design firms talk a good game but inevitably a designer can only be judged by the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their portfolio doesn’t contain actual examples odds are they will never be able to deliver a quality logo design.

VISION

A logo’s aim is to be understood and be unforgettable, and it’s purpose is to mirror your personal vision for your organization. If a designer isn’t focused on fulfilling your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how soon they will get paid.

Birmingham LOGO DESIGN

For over twenty years ImageCo has been helping entrepreneurs grow memorable brands. We have undertaken brand design work for builders, educational institutions, diamond miners, wedding singers, diners, retailers, and virtually every other kind of business concern you can envision. What makes ImageCo different compared to our contemporaries is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we approach every brand identity project as though it will be used as an electrical sign. Because of our sign first strategy our logo designs can, and have been employed in everything from fashion labels to electrical signs. Our sign first technique guarantees that our logos are just as reliable whether they are used in television commercials or web apps, they are consistently recognizable, understood, and remembered no matter of size or function.

American Made ★ Design

Something that truly sets ImageCo apart from many of the design companies that you might possibly have stumbled upon on-line, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every project we are contracted to perform, we do in-house. No matter the kind of project we accept, business logo, web site, trade show exhibit, or electric sign, we do not, and never will contract out our customer’s projects to organizations based outside the United States. Whenever you phone us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that picks up the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that increases the price of your project and determines the terms of how we do business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A POWERFUL LOGO DESIGN

It’s likely that every new Birmingham business realizes that they probably need a logo, but few new business owners entirely grasp the crucial role their company logo will perform in their success, or the reason that one logo functions far better than another. A logo design has an immediate and lasting effect on the viability of a company, pick the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, go with the wrong one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the longevity of a company. The logos included in the ImageCo portfolio help Birmingham businesses succeed, they are effective in any given circumstance and the main reason they are so effective is that they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not require scrutiny, they can be comprehended in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from label to retail signs a scalable logo design will remain legible and equally emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos which function on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel exclusive, and they are suitable for the item or organization they brand.
  5. Relevance: a logo design should be ageless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.

understand your brand

Brand – It is a verb and a noun, it’s an identifying mark and also the process of marking something so that it could be recognized, its genesis comes from the brand branded onto livestock. Nowadays a brand symbolizes practically anything with a motive, regardless if it be earnings or government agencies, a brand is an inherent aspect of specifying the value of a specific thing in the public’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s attractive cousin, they are both from the exact same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s goal is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity contest targeted at a target market, it’s objective is to create a mental image that the target market will likely relate to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated through advertising and marketing and also identity design. When someone states the names Lamborghini or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s an image that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of an automobile with 4 wheels that can transport us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and that is what makes individuals buy those products. Brand image is why people buy most things, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that we can relate to.

Branding Firms – If you look back at the history of the majority of branding companies you’ll discover that they are quite often re-branded advertising and marketing agencies. When somebody claims they are in advertising the majority of people will likely have a preconceived notion about what they do. However when somebody claims “I’m in branding”… it just seems much more impressive, perhaps it’s since the majority of people don’t know what it means to be in branding so it comes off as more mysterious and perhaps even attractive.

Brand Identity – Is an inclusive term that describes the visual aspects of a product or agency that affect view points. This primarily includes the name, the logo, the product packaging, the different colors used however can additionally consist of sound, lighting, texture, signage, really anything that can be seen, touched or heard become part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a visual designer that concentrates on a kind of visual design that helps form the public image of a business, a product or a business. Brand identity designers develop logo designs, signage designs, product packaging, as well as collateral material such as cards, stationery, as well as pamphlets. Some identity designers also design websites and also software interfaces. The vital role of a brand identity designer is to establish the visual cues and also an emotional tone with the objective of influencing activities, results and also understandings.

select logos & signs

Retro logo style of a bicycle produced for a Birmingham coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee shop were actually opening up in an old section of the town and really wanted to cast a retro feel without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I fulfilled the two tasks by developing a company logo concept that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a enduring business image.

medical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide and germs developed for Birmingham clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which analyzes the causes and consequences of diseases, mainly the field of medicine that works with the clinical assessment of specimens of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology custom logo design I came up with is the only instance I call to mind where I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a business logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a point, this design approaches the company it serves very literally, but it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that makes it more intriguing, more attention grabbing and even more unforgettable.

logo layout with a leaping eco-friendly frog developed for a family members fun facility in Birmingham.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental offices, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the name of the business features the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to include a some springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring does not really resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more dynamic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they used for marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

photography logo including a flock of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, and also a tree - made for Birmingham traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I think it is a niche area because travel photographers tend not to capture locations or things but instead convey emotional journeys by means of the photos they record. The idea behind this logo design was to use negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is quintessential of the majority of professional photographers in that they often share whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance which can’t be conveyed with just words. I made an effort to do something the same to this logo by utilizing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Birmingham logo but also to reveal the depth to her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Birmingham logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design projects that I take on I seriously take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I certainly felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the letter A however the client, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This particular guy seriously disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family didn’t share his contempt for this particular kind of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge them to discuss it with colleagues and family as well as with folks that they don’t actually know so as to get unprejudiced opinions on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family and they loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he went with the original concept.

Logos are a weird animal in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire an expert to create their logo recognize how essential a logo design is for their company so they are way more invested in the end result. Every logo design project possesses it’s share of challenges, however the greatest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for Birmingham publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped piece of real estate to work with, nevertheless it really is the most crucial part of a printed book given that it is in most cases the very first thing a person views in the bookstore. With respect to a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity they will likely ever get to publicize their brand and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo made for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has two letter A's with the bars changed to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart nevertheless it looks like that in many occurrences 1 of the aspects consumers usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a small fledgling commuter/shuttle air service based in LA and while I’m not certain it actually “took off” their custom logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to affording a sense of air travel and it was certainly a success.

Birmingham logo layout utilized for advertising and marketing as well as a label design for Vintage Instance includes an old typeface design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand new cases for musical instruments, which seemed to be vintage cases. For this brand design I attempted to come up with a logo that provided a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could easily be used for every thing from a website to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another generation.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Birmingham, style include an arc with lines intersecting via it to indicate steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logos can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design jobs due to the fact that it seems that every dental professional involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental business logos are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to business advertising, if restaurants approached their advertising in the very same way dentists do every one of their logo designs would definitely be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would probably have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s company logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental industry.

I really enjoy doing dentistry logo designs because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a layout that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was evident was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design developed for a family members nonprofit, the logo features 4 characters startled in height to stand for a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the folks in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a logo design which communicated that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The goal of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to summarize specifically how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If viewers have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo that describes itself won’t have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo design produced for a Birmingham hair layout studio including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a logo which communicated a spirit of tranquility and class for their new hair studio. I came up with a design that did not go the obvious course of designing merely a stylized orchid but instead crafted a company logo which implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl blended into the letter O in the name and by placing emphasis on the logo design with the figure of a hummingbird hovering above the logo itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is more often than not the incorrect direction and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead placed the importance on the perception that they really wanted to project to their customers.

Arabian equine logo style created for a steed cattle ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed a distinct company logo concept fashioned to illustrate the unique physical traits of the Arabian breed of equines. With a different head form and very high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the very most quite easily identifiable equine types in the world.

Las Cafe, A Birmingham Coffee shop logo layout a little dining establishment, style includes a modified script typeface which hovers over a group of ornate lines as well as dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo layout a little restaurant, design consists of a changed manuscript typeface which floats over a group of elaborate lines and dots.

Logo design for a software application developer the style functions and famous Birmingham aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and hard drive managing. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that serves as a bridge in between the software and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it represented something to the owner of the business and in quite a few cases the significance behind a logo is equally as important as how it serves the organization it represents.

Progress logo style created for a Birminghaminterior developer, design attribute a collection of red circles that intersect as well as change the letter O in the center of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Birmingham interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is an individual who prepares, investigates, coordinates, and manages such ventures. logo design done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Birmingham, the personalities for letter V as well as A in center of words advanced have been changed to tie directly into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This Birmingham logo design project was completed for a leadership guide that helps business professionals to become more successful at managing people, expectations, and productivity.

A Birmingham business logo design featuring a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly realized the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting store that functions as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a spot to market their secondhand items to other sports enthusiasts.

I designed their Birmingham logo design using a graphic which pulls in the interest of traffic and sends an image that wakens the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the illustration of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.

Logo layout MQ farms, this Birmingham company logo design has actually an area integrated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo design wasn’t actually created for an Birmingham area farm it was actually developed for a commodities broker, and this particular creative logo was one of a handful of that fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was to generate a graphic that projected confidence, effectiveness, and prosperity.

Birmingham Logo design for a not-for-profit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo layout attribute for externally encountering arrowhead and the arrowheads indicate that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was completely open to what kind of logo design they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it grants a designer the liberty to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s tricky to hit a bullseye in the absence of understanding where the target is. Thankfully, in this instance, I nailed a bullseye with the first shot.

Logo designed for the use of an indicator for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font that is evocative a popular Birmingham sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created loads of restaurant logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bake shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool undertaking where I worked directly with the owner to develop a logo that worked extremely well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated signage which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
