Kentwood Logo Design

Nearly every new Kentwood company realizes that they need a logo, but few new business owners fully realize the pivotal role their logo design can make in their success, or why one logo functions better than another. A logo has a critical and long-term influence on the financial success of a company, choose the correct one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, choose the wrong one and it will be an obstacle and an impediment for the life span of a business. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Kentwood businesses succeed, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t demand scrutiny, they can be realized in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo will remain legible and equally emotive at any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are exclusive, and they are suitable for the company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a business logo should be enduring and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

Retro logo layout of a bicycle created for a Kentwood coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and cafe were actually launching in an older section of the town and really wanted to cast a nostalgic tone without coming across as boring or low energy. I fulfilled each of the jobs by means of developing a sign design that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a enduring business image.

clinical logo layout with a microscope slide and also germs designed for Kentwood medical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that analyzes the causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare which works with the laboratory evaluation of specimens of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is really the sole instance I recall in which I was able to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Normally I try not to be overly literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents fairly literally, but it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that helps make it more intriguing, more interest grabbing and a lot more unforgettable.

logo layout with a leaping eco-friendly frog made for a household fun center in Kentwood.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the usual of the types of projects that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dentists, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have actually ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the company features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to integrate a handful of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t actually reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a much more lively high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they utilized for marketing and advertising. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I created was made into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo including a flock of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - developed for Kentwood traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche speciality due to the fact that travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead convey emotional journeys through the images they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to use negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is quintessential of the majority of professional photographers in that they frequently tell whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be revealed with just words. I made an effort to do something the same to this logo by making use of the positive space in the design to say one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Kentwood logo design but also to illustrate the depth to her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Kentwood logo design with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of business logo design jobs that I take on I really savor and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the letter A however the client, while he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man seriously disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family did not share his hatred for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I encourage them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get objective opinions on the benefit of a design. Fortunately, he shared it with his family members and they adored the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Business logos are a strange creature in the design world given that the people that tend to hire a professional to design their logo comprehend how vital a logo design is for their company so they are way more vested in the end result. Every logo job possesses it’s portion of obstacles, however the greatest challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that operates really well at the job it’s required to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, design for Kentwood publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow parcel of real estate to work with, however it is the most essential part of a published book since it is usually the very first thing a person sees in the book shop. Concerning a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity that they will likely ever get to spotlight their brand and get their logo design in front of the men and women that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo designed for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart but it looks like that in many cases one of the traits people tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest new venture commuter/shuttle air service situated in LA and while I’m not sure it actually “took off” their business logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to affording a feeling of air travel and it was definitely a success.

Kentwood logo design used for advertising and also a tag design for Vintage Instance includes an old-fashioned font style layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in all new cases for music instruments, which seemed to be antique cases. For this brand design I strove to come up with a logo that offered a fluid old style feel to it and could easily be utilized for anything from a web page to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another generation.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Kentwood, design include an arc with lines converging via it to indicate metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care business logos can be one of the most difficult logo design jobs because it appears that every dentist features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the most cliche ridden professions when it comes to business marketing, if restaurants approached their branding in the same way dentists do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind including a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care profession.

I really enjoy doing dental logos because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a layout that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this concept over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo design designed for a household not-for-profit, the logo features 4 characters startled in elevation to stand for a family with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the residents in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy approach to any logo design is to be overly literal about what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization wishes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a custom logo design that communicated that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo design to summarize precisely how individuals should think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If viewers have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo that illustrates itself won’t have the chance to be understood.

Logo design developed for a hair style studio featuring a script font a hummingbird and also a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a business logo which carried a feeling of serenity and elegance for their new hair studio. I created a concept that did not go the obvious direction of designing just a stylized orchid but instead created a company logo which suggested an orchid in the pattern of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the title and by putting emphasis on the logo design with the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a company logo is frequently the incorrect course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead placed the focus on the emotion that they really wanted to project to their customers.

Logo layout for a software program designer the design functions and legendary aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task control, and disk operations. The kernel attaches the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a bridge between the software and hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is situated a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone regarding to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it meant something to the owner of the company and in many cases the meaning behind a logo design is equally as important as how it serves the company it stands for.

A logo style including an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the founders of On the Fly knew the market was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a location to market their secondhand equipment to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Kentwood business logo dsign along with an image which seizes the interest of traffic and sends an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 mph I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and relaxed habitat.
Logo layout MQ ranches, this logo style has actually an area integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms brand concept wasn’t actually produced for an Kentwood area farm it was actually devised for a products broker, and this logo was one of a handful of that fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was actually to create a image that projects esteem, success, and prosperity.
Logo designed for the use of an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script typeface that is similar to a popular sports team logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have crafted quite a lot of restaurant custom logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat undertaking in which I worked directly with the business owner to design a logo design which worked very well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the lighted signage that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
