Okemos Logo Design

Nearly every new Okemos business understands that they require a logo, however few entrepreneurs fully realize the vital role their company logo will perform in their financial success, or the reason that one business logo performs better than another. A company logo has an immediate and sustaining influence on the prosperity of a business, go with the right one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, choose the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the longevity of a company. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Okemos companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these 5 things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t demand contemplation, they can be understood in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable logo design will remain legible and equally emotive at every dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are personal, and they are suitable for the business they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design should be lasting and will feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from now.

Retro logo design of a bike created for a Okemos coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This start-up coffee roaster and cafe were actually opening in an older section of town and wanted to cast an old-fashioned feel without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I achieved each of the tasks by developing a custom logo design that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo style with a microscope slide as well as germs created for Okemos clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that examines the causes and effects of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare which works with the clinical examination of specimens of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is the only instance I recall where I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be overly literal with a design and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it represents rather literally, however it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more intriguing, more focus grabbing and more memorable.

logo style with a leaping eco-friendly frog made for a household fun center in Okemos.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the norm of the kinds of jobs that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dental professionals, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the company features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to include a some springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t really reflect an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to provide the logo a better enthusiastic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my brainchild and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I designed was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo design including a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, and also a tree - developed for Okemos traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche sector because travel photographers don’t shoot places or things but instead reveal emotional experiences by means of the photos they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to use negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of the majority of professional photographers in that they often tell whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey significantly more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional resonance that can’t be conveyed with just words. I attempted to do something similar to this logo by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Okemos logo design but also to show the depth in her work and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Okemos logo layout with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of business logo design jobs that I take on I seriously relish and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the letter A but the customer, even though he loved the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This guy seriously loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his friends and family did not share his aversion for this particular breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I urge all of them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family members as well as with people that they don’t actually know so as to get neutral opinions on the value of a concept. Fortunately, he shared it with his whole family and they adored the design and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … in the end I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logo designs are a weird creature in the design world because the people that tend to hire a professional to design their logo recognize how essential a logo is for their business so they are way more vested in the final result. Every logo project has it’s share of difficulties, however the greatest obstacle is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the client the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Okemos publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin segment of real estate to work with, yet it is the most critical part of a published book because it is often the very first thing a person views in the book store. With respect to a publishing company, it’s the absolute best opportunity they will ever get to advertise their label and get their logo design in front of the people that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo made for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with the bars modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart yet it seems that in many occurrences 1 of the things consumers usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a smaller new venture commuter/shuttle air service located in LA and while I’m not sure it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to imparting a spirit of airline flight and it was definitely a victory.

Okemos logo style made use of for advertising and marketing and a tag layout for Vintage Instance includes an archaic font style layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in brand new cases for music instruments, which looked to be older cases. For this custom logo concept I sought to come up with a logo that provided a fluid vintage feel to it and could easily be utilized for anything from a website to a label on brand new cases that looked like they were from a different era.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Okemos, layout include an arc with lines converging with it to indicate steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can easily be one of the most difficult logo projects because it appears that almost every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to small business marketing, if dining establishments approached their branding in the same way dental offices do every one of their logo designs would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would most likely have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind adding a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo design nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I actually love doing dentistry logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a certain field of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and ultimately I created a design that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the design. When I turned this particular concept over to the customer the only smile that was obvious was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo created for a family members nonprofit, the logo design includes 4 characters staggered in elevation to stand for a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be depictive of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the company or organization hopes to communicate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo design which communicated that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The aim of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to explain exactly how people should think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If people have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that explains itself will never have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo layout created for a hair layout workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a logo that related an atmosphere of contentment and elegance for their new hair studio. I came up with a design which didn’t go the obvious route of designing merely a stylized orchid but instead crafted a logo that suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl blended into the letter O in the title and by placing emphasis on the concept with the figure of a hummingbird floating above the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a business logo is frequently the incorrect path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead laid the importance on the emotion that they really wanted to project to their clients.

Logo layout for a software application programmer the style attributes as well as iconic element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and hard drive operations. The kernel unites the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that serves as a bridge between the software and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it symbolized something to the owner of the company and in many cases the significance behind a logo is equally as important as how it serves the business it stands for.

logo design provided for Advanced Management Solutions, the characters for letter V and also A in middle of the word progressed have actually been changed to tie straight into the words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Okemos logo design job was carried out for a management coach that helps business leaders to become more efficient at handling people, expectations, and profitability.

A logo layout including a fisherman in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly understood the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of passions, a place to sell off their secondhand goods to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Okemos business logo dsign utilizing an image which garners the interest of vehicles and sends an image that calls to mind the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the picture of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.
Logo style MQ ranches, this logo design has a field integrated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem concept wasn’t actually composed for an Okemos area farm it was in reality devised for a commodities broker, and this company was one of multiple which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was really to make a brand mark that projects confidence, success, and affluence.
Logo created for making use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant manuscript font style that is reminiscent of a popular sporting activities group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve designed dozens of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project in which I worked closely with the business owner to create a logo design which worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
