Portage, Michigan Logo Design

Nearly every new Portage company knows they need a logo, however few new business owners entirely grasp the pivotal role their business logo can take in their success, or why one logo design works far better than another. A business logo has a critical and lasting influence on the growth of a business, select the right one and it can make the door swing and phone ring, select the wrong one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the longevity of a company.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Portage, Michigan businesses prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these five features in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t demand deliberation, they can be grasped in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo design will continue to be legible and equally emotive at every scale.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo design should be enduring and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty five years from now.

Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo layout of a bicycle produced for a Portage, Michigan coffee cafe and also a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee bar were actually opening in an older part of the city and hoped to cast a vintage tone without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I accomplished the two jobs via creating a trademark design that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, higher energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo layout with a microscopic lense slide and also germs developed for Portage, Michigan clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that analyzes the root causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare that deals with the laboratory evaluation of samplings of body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is the only instance I remember in which I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Normally I attempt not to be overly literal with a concept and to a degree, this design approaches the company it represents rather literally, however it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the brand that makes it more intriguing, more interest grabbing and a lot more meaningful.

logo design with a leaping green frog created for a family members enjoyable facility in Portage, Michigan.

Cool Springs | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of jobs which come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental experts, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever gotten the privilege to work on.

Given that the full name of the business has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to integrate a couple springs into the concept but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more lively high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they utilized for promotion and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

photography logo including a flock of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, and a tree - made for Portage, Michigan traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche field due to the fact that travel photographers don’t capture places or things but instead communicate emotional journeys through the photos they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to make use of negative space to reveal more than what was visible upon initial glance, which I think is quintessential of the majority of good photographers in that they oftentimes convey entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey a great deal more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness which can’t be conveyed with mere words. I made an effort to do something much the same to this logo design by employing the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Portage logo but also to illustrate the depth of her work and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Portage logo style with a seagull used for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail service.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I seriously take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I certainly felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A but the client, even though he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular man seriously disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family didn’t share his aversion for this specific variety of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a client I urge them to discuss it with colleagues and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t even know so as to get honest assessments on the benefit of a concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his family and they adored the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his preference of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Business logos are a strange creature in the design world because the people that are inclined to hire an expert to create their logo design recognize how crucial a logo design is for their business so they are much more vested in the end result. Every logo project possesses it’s allotment of obstacles, however the biggest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo in the background, style for Portage, Michigan publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a narrow segment of real estate to work with, nevertheless it is the most essential part of a published book since it is usually the first thing a person sees in the book shop. Regarding a publisher, it’s the optimal opportunity they will likely ever get to spotlight their product and get their logo design in front of the men and women that shop for actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of room for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo designed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with benches changed to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and go nevertheless it seems that in many instances 1 of the aspects people usually tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest startup commuter/shuttle airline company situated in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to confering a sense of airline flight and it was undoubtedly a victory.

Portage logo layout utilized for advertising and marketing and also a label layout for Vintage Case features an archaic typeface layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in all new cases for musical instruments, that seemed to be older cases. For this logo concept I strove to come up with a logo that offered a fluid old-fashioned feel to it and could be used for everything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another generation.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Portage, Michigan, layout consist of an arc with lines converging via it to imply steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logo designs can be one of the most challenging and difficult logo design jobs because it seems that every single dentist features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logos are one of the very most cliche ridden fields when it comes to company advertising, if dining establishments approached their branding in the exact same way dentists do every one of their company logos would definitely be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would probably include a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo but it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I really really love doing dental care logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and inevitably I created a concept that does not have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular design over to the client the only smile that was obvious was the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo made for a family not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 personalities surprised in elevation to represent a family unit with in the style.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the families in his community. The majority of logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy strategy to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution wants to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a distinct opportunity to do a logo that communicated that they were about families without being openly tacky about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to explain specifically how individuals ought to think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If you have to ponder a logo to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo that explains itself will never have the chance to be understood.

Logo style created for a hair layout workshop including a script font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios wanted a company logo which projected a spirit of calmness and class for their new hair studio. I came up with a design which did not go the obvious course of designing simply a stylized orchid but instead delivered a logo which implied an orchid in the formation of a swirl integrated in to the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the concept using the figure of a hummingbird hovering over the logo itself. The obvious path in creating a business logo is more often than not the incorrect path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead placed the importance on the emotion that they really wanted to project to their patrons.

Arabian steed logo design created for a horse cattle ranch that specializes in reproducing Arabian show equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo created a one-of-a-kind brand concept tailored to display the unique physical traits of the Arabian pedigree of horses. By having a distinctive head form and higher tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the very most easily recognizable equine lineages in the world.

Logo style for a software developer the style features and renowned component of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and drive operations. The kernel unites the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that operates as a connection between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to point out anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it intimated something to the owner of the business and in many cases the substance behind a logo design is equally as important as how it serves the enterprise it represents.

A logo layout featuring a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing supplies and equipment to outdoor sporting lovers the owners of On the Fly realized the market was primed for an outdoor sporting merchant that functions as a consignment company. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all types of interests, a location to sell their pre-owned goods to other sports enthusiasts. I tailored their Portage business logo dsign using a graphic that garners the interest of vehicles and sends an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five mph I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.
Logo design MQ ranches, this logo design has an area incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms business logo concept wasn’t really created for an Portage, Michigan regional farm it was actually created for a commodities broker, and this particular logo was one of multiple which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. Portage Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo layout function for ostensibly facing arrowhead as well as the arrowheads suggest that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what type of logo design they desired, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the liberty to delve into any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s challenging to hit a bullseye without recognizing where the target is. Luckily, in this particular instance, I hit a bullseye with the first shot.

Logo design designed for using an indication for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font style that is similar to a renowned sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve crafted loads of restaurant business logos and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the United States, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project in which I worked directly with the business owner to create a logo that worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage that hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
