Portage Logo Design

Nearly every new Portage venture realizes that they require a logo, yet few entrepreneurs entirely understand the vital role their logo design can make in their financial success, or exactly why one business logo functions better than another. A company logo has a critical and lasting impact on the financial success of a company, pick the right one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it can be a barrier and a hindrance for the life span of a company. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Portage companies prosper, they are effective in any given scenario and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these 5 features in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs do not demand consideration, they can be understood in just a glance.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable logo will stay legible and just as emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any sort of device, in print, on product packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the company they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a company logo should be enduring and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and forty years from now.

Retro logo layout of a bicycle produced for a Portage coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and coffeehouse were actually launching in an older section of the community and really wanted to project a nostalgic vibe without appearing as stodgy or low energy. I fulfilled the two jobs by designing a business logo concept that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a classic business image.

medical logo layout with a microscope slide and germs created for Portage clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline which analyzes the causes and outcomes of diseases, especially the branch of medicine that deals with the clinical evaluation of specimens of human body cellular material for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is the sole instance I call to mind where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a logo design.

Usually I attempt not to be overly literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents rather literally, however it does it in a way that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as a description of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancement to the name that makes it more interesting, more interest grabbing and much more unforgettable.

logo design with a jumping eco-friendly frog created for a family members fun facility in Portage.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the usual of the types of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for surgeons, dental offices, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the title of the company has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to include a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring doesn’t actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to give the logo a more dynamic high energy feeling.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they utilized for marketing and advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I came up with was transformed into a mascot when they had an employee costume fashioned to look exactly like my frog design.

photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a hill, a trail, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Portage travel digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather niche field of photography and I think it is a niche speciality because travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but instead reveal emotional experiences by means of the photos they capture. The idea behind this logo concept was to utilize negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of the majority of good photographers in that they oftentimes tell whole stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness that can’t be revealed with just words. I tried to do something very similar to this logo design by making use of the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Portage logo but also to show the depth in her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Portage logo layout with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of logo design jobs that I take on I genuinely enjoy and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I really felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull shape as a stroke in the letter A however my client, even though he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This man truly loathed seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his friends and family didn’t share his contempt for this particular breed of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage all of them to talk about it with colleagues and family members as well as with individuals that they don’t actually know so as to get impartial viewpoints on the value of a design concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family members and they really loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original design.

Logo designs are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire a professional to design their business logo comprehend how important a logo is for their business so they are way more vested in the final result. Every logo project possesses it’s portion of hurdles, but the biggest challenge is finding that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the task it’s needed to do in branding a company and also providing the client the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Portage publication publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a cramped segment of real estate to work with, nevertheless it is the most critical part of a published book due to the fact that it is in most cases the primary thing a person views in the book store. Regarding a publisher, it’s the opportunity that they will likely ever have to spotlight their product and get their logo design in front of the people that shop for actual books.

This three color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart yet it seems like that in many instances 1 of the things individuals often tend to remember the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young new venture commuter/shuttle air service located in LA and although I’m not certain it really “took off” their organization logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to affording a spirit of air travel and it was undoubtedly a victory.

Portage logo layout used for marketing and also a label layout for Vintage Instance features an old-fashioned typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for music instruments, that seemed to be antique cases. For this business logo concept I tried to come up with a logo that had a fluid nostalgic feel to it and could easily be used for everything from a website to an insignia on brand new cases that seemed like they were from another point in time.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in Portage, design consist of an arc with lines converging through it to suggest steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry business logos can be one of the most challenging logo design projects because it appears that each and every dental professional incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to company branding, if dining establishments approached their advertising in the same way dental professionals do every one of their logo designs would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably include an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth related to a dentist’s company logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I actually love doing dental logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain field of dental treatment like orthodontics without resorting to the stereotypical course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and subsequently I created a concept that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo developed for a family members not-for-profit, the logo features 4 personalities staggered in height to stand for a family unit with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a logo that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the residents in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain images of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be very literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best designs are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution wishes to project.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a distinct opportunity to do a logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being openly cheesy about it. The goal of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo to explain precisely how people should think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If you have to consider a logo design to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo that explains itself will never have the opportunity to be understood.

Logo layout produced for a hair layout studio including a script font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design which carried a sense of relaxation and connection for their new hair studio. I came up with a concept that didn’t go the obvious path of creating just a stylized orchid but rather crafted a logo which suggested an orchid in the formation of a swirl integrated into the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept along with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering over the logo itself. The obvious path in creating a business logo is in most cases the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately placed the attention on the feeling that they really wanted to project to their patrons.

Arabian steed logo design developed for an equine ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian program steeds.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Cafe logo style a little restaurant, style contains a modified manuscript font style which hovers over a group of luxuriant lines and dots.

Logo design for a software program developer the layout attributes and famous element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central component of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and disk management. The kernel connects the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a connection between the software and hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to describe anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. But it meant something to the owner of the business and in many cases the significance behind a company logo is just as important as how it brands the business it represents.

A logo layout featuring an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the visitor.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With companies such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the founders of On the Fly knew the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting retailer that operates as a consignment business. Whether you are into boating, angling or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of passions, a place to market their used products to other sports enthusiasts. I designed their Portage logo design dsign utilizing an image which garners the attention of traffic and projects an image that invokes the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.
Logo design MQ ranches, this logo style has a field incorporated into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms emblem concept wasn’t actually developed for an Portage area farm it was really created for an investments broker, and this brand was one of multiple which fell beneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to generate a graphic that projects trust, effectiveness, and opulence.
Logo developed for making use of an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script font style that is similar to a renowned sports group logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed dozens of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the USA, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I think Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a great project where I worked closely with the owner to produce a logo design which worked really well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
