Minnesota Logo Design

Every new Minnesota  venture realizes that they require a logo, however few entrepreneurs entirely realize the crucial role their company logo can take in their success, or why one logo design functions better than another. A logo has an instant and long term influence on the success of a business, select the right one and it can make the door swing and cash register ring, select the wrong one and it will be an obstacle and an impediment for the life of an organization.

The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Minnesota companies prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the reason they are so effective is because they all have these five traits in common.

  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t require consideration, they can be realized in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to posters a scalable logo design will be legible and equally emotive at any dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are personal, and they are suitable for the organization they represent.
  5. Relevance: a logo must be enduring and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and twenty years from today.

Logo PORTFOLIO Volume 1

Retro logo layout of a bicycle developed for a Minnesota coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffeehouse were opening in an old section of the community and wanted to project a retro feel without coming across as boring or low energy. I achieved the two jobs via designing a trademark concept that contains a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, higher energy, and is a ageless business image.

clinical logo design with a microscopic lense slide as well as bacteria created for Minnesota clinical facility.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that examines the root causes and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare which works with the clinical examination of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo design I came up with is really the only instance I recall where I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide right into a business logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be overly literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents quite literally, however it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more intriguing, more attention grabbing and more memorable.

logo design with a jumping eco-friendly frog made for a family fun facility in Minnesota.

Cool Springs | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very fun project to work on, most likely because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the usual of the types of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for physicians, dental experts, and attorneys but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park that I have ever gotten the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the business features the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to incorporate a couple springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring doesn’t actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo design project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, in the end I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a much more lively high energy mood.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and included him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I designed was made into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo featuring a group of birds, a hill, a path, a stream, and also a tree - created for Minnesota travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a custom logo design project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly niche field of photography and I think it is a niche area due to the fact that travel photographers don’t shoot locations or things but instead communicate emotional journeys through the images they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to use negative space to project more than what was visible upon first glance, which I think is representative of almost all professional photographers in that they oftentimes tell entire stories using their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be revealed with just words. I tried to do something comparable to this logo design by using the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Minnesota  logo design but also to illustrate the depth in her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Minnesota logo style with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of logo design jobs that I take on I honestly savor and the Coastal Wireless design was one that I really felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the concept of using the seagull silhouette as a stroke in the character A however my client, while he liked the concept, really did not care for my choice of birds. This guy seriously disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family did not share his aversion for this specific kind of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a client I encourage them to share it with colleagues and family members as well as with folks that they don’t actually know so as to get impartial opinions on the benefit of a design concept. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they adored the design and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to incorporate every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logos are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that are inclined to hire an expert to design their logo recognize how essential a logo design is for their company so they are way more invested in the outcome. Every logo job has it’s portion of obstacles, however the most significant challenge is identifying that sweet spot in a design that functions really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo layout with bamboo in the background, layout for Minnesota book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin piece of real estate to work with, yet it is the most necessary part of a printed book given that it is in most cases the first thing a person views in the bookstore. Concerning a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity that they will likely ever get to promote their product and get their logo design in front of the men and women that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vibrant, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo developed for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with benches customized to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and go however it seems like that in many instances one of the aspects consumers tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young new venture commuter/shuttle airline situated in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their custom logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their name lent itself well to affording a good sense of airline flight and it was certainly a success.

Minnesota logo design used for advertising and marketing and a tag layout for Vintage Instance features an archaic typeface style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in brand new cases for music instruments, that looked to be older cases. For this business logo design I strove to come up with a logo that had a fluid vintage feel to it and could easily be used for everything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another point in time.

Logo design developed for an orthodontist in Minnesota, layout consist of an arc with lines converging through it to imply steel braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care logo designs can be one of the most difficult logo design projects considering that it seems that virtually every dental professional integrates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to company marketing, if restaurants approached their advertising in the same way dentists do every one of their logo designs would be a picture explaining anything they served, McDonalds would probably contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I understand the thinking behind adding an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry profession.

I really love doing dentistry logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics delivered such an opportunity and ultimately I created a design that doesn’t have a single smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo made for a family members not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 personalities startled in height to stand for a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a logo design that would be representative of the love that William McNally had for the people residing in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the company or institution hopes to convey.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a custom logo design that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly tacky about it. The objective of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to summarize how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the objective of a logo. If viewers have to think about a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be immediately comprehended and a logo that describes itself won’t have the chance to be understood.

Logo design developed for a hair design workshop featuring a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design which communicated a sense of serenity and connection for their new hair salon. I created a design that didn’t go the obvious route of making simply a stylized orchid but instead created a business logo that suggested an orchid in the pattern of a swirl featured into the letter O in the name and by placing attention on the concept along with the figure of a hummingbird floating above the logo design itself. The obvious path in designing a logo design is oftentimes the wrong course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead placed the main focus on the feeling that they really wanted to transmit to their clients.

Arabian equine logo style developed for an equine cattle ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian show equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

Logo design for a software programmer the design features and also iconic element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the key part of an operating system (OS). Traditionally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and disk managing. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge in between the software program and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone with regards to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However it intimated something to the business owner of the business and in many cases the symbolism behind a company logo is just as important as how it brands the organization it represents.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Minnesota logo design job was carried out for a management consultant that helps business leaders to develop into more effective at handling people, expectations, and profitability.

A logo style including a fisherman in the center of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year retailing goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly recognized the market was prepared for an outdoor sporting retailer that operates as a consignment business. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of passions, a place to sell off their pre-owned products to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Minnesota logo design design with a graphic that grabs the attention of traffic and projects an image that evokes the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I knew it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.

Logo style MQ farms, this logo layout has an area included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms logo design wasn’t really created for an Minnesota  farm it was actually created for a commodities broker, and this particular logo was one of multiple that fell under the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The objective was really to generate a graphic that projects assurance, success, and wealth.

Minnesota Logo design for a nonprofit, Turning Factor Solutions - the logo layout feature for outwardly encountering arrowhead as well as the arrowheads suggest that it is a ruby form.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what kind of logo design they desired, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it provides a designer the freedom to discover any concept that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye in the absence of knowing where exactly the target is. Fortunately, in this instance, I struck a bullseye with the 1st go.

Logo made for making use of a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is a luxuriant manuscript font that is similar to a renowned sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have crafted loads of restaurant custom logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project in which I worked directly with the proprietor to design a logo that worked very well and did a fantastic job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign that hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
