STRATEGIES FOR PICKING THE RIGHT LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo design is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design company presents a money back guarantee try to keep in mind that they simply cannot reimburse the time you invest which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many designers talk a good game but in the end a designer can only be evaluated by the quality of their portfolio, if the work in their portfolio does not contain real life examples odds are they will never be able to produce a premium logo design.

VISION

A logo’s objective is to be understood and be unforgettable, and it’s objective is to reflect your unique vision for your business. If a designer is not focused on fulfilling your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how quickly they will get paid.

Elk River LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping entrepreneurs cultivate notable brands. We’ve done brand identity design work for ranchers, colleges, heart surgeons, party planners, coffee roasters, retailers, and virtually every other kind of business you can imagine. What makes us different compared to typical graphic designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as though it will be used as an electrical sign. Because of our sign first method our brand identity designs can, and have been used in everything from fashion labels to electrical signs. Our sign first method ensures that our logos are just as reliable whether they are used in television commercials or web applications, they are consistently recognizable, comprehended, and always remembered irrespective of scale or application.

American Made ★ Design

The one difference which really sets ImageCo apart from other design agencies that you may have come across in search results, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every project we are hired to do, we do ourselves. Irrespective of the type of project we undertake, logo, website, trade show banners, or commercial sign, we do not, and never will job out our customer’s work to organizations located outside the US. When you phone us at 1-855-IMAGECO the party that answers the phone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a broker that increases the cost of your project and dictates the conditions of how my customers and I do business.

CHARACTERISTICS OF AN EFFECTIVE LOGO DESIGN

It’s likely that every new Elk River entrepreneur knows they require a logo, however few start-ups fully understand the key role their company logo can perform in their financial success, or why one business logo functions more effectively than another. A company logo has a critical and sustaining influence on the financial success of a company, pick the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the life span of a business. The logos presented in the ImageCo portfolio help Elk River companies prosper, they are effective in any given situation and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos do not require consideration, they can be understood in merely a glimpse.
  2. Scalability: from label to posters a scalable logo will continue to be legible and equally emotive at every dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos that operate on any device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the product or business they brand.
  5. Relevance: a business logo must be ageless and will feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from today.

understanding branding

Brand – It’s both a verb and a noun, it is an identifying mark as well as the process of noting something so that it could be identified, its genesis comes from the brand branded onto animals. These days a brand symbolizes basically anything with an objective, regardless if it be earnings or government agencies, a brand is an innate aspect of specifying the value of a specific thing in the consumer’s mind.

Branding – Is sort of like marketing and advertising’s attractive sister, they are each from the very same family, the distinction being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a strategic popularity competition targeted at a specific audience, it’s goal is to produce a mental image that the target market can connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and cultivated by advertising and marketing as well as identity design. When a person states the names Porsche or Mustang what we consider is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a car with 4 wheels that can transport us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, beauty, of something dangerous and sexy . That is brand image and that is what makes people want those brands. Brand image is why people buy specific brands, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can relate to.

Branding Companies – If you look back at the history of a lot of branding firms you’ll find that they are quite often re-branded marketing companies. When someone says they are in advertising and marketing the majority of people will likely have a preconceived notion about what they do. However when a person states “I am in branding”… it simply sounds more impressive, maybe it’s because the majority of people don’t fully understand what it indicates to be in branding so it comes off as more mysterious and maybe even sexy.

Brand Identity – Is a comprehensive term that describes the visual elements of a product or agency that influence perceptions. This mostly consists of the name, the logo, the packaging, the different colors used however can likewise consist of sound, lighting, texture, signage, really anything that can be seen, felt or heard are part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a designer that concentrates on a type of visual design that helps form the image of a company, a product or a business organization. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, sign designs, packaging, and collateral products such as business cards, stationery, and pamphlets. Some visual designers also develop websites as well as software interfaces. The essential role of a brand identity designer is to create the visual cues as well as a psychological tone with the objective of influencing actions, end results as well as assumptions.

Featured signs/logos

Retro logo design of a bike produced for a Elk River coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and coffee shop were opening in an old section of the area and really wanted to visualize a nostalgic atmosphere without coming across as uninteresting or low energy. I fulfilled the two tasks by developing a trademark design that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a enduring business image.

clinical logo design with a microscope slide and bacteria made for Elk River clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science which analyzes the causes and effects of diseases, mainly the field of healthcare which deals with the laboratory evaluation of specimens of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic intents.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is the sole instance I recall in which I was in a position to incorporate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Generally I attempt not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a degree, this specific design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, however it does it in a fashion that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that makes it more appealing, more interest grabbing and more unforgettable.

logo style with a jumping green frog created for a family members fun center in Elk River.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the types of projects which come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for doctors, dental professionals, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park which I have ever had the privilege to work on.

Given that the title of the company has the word springz in its name the apparent choice would have been to incorporate a handful of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun place to go and spring doesn’t really reflect an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, inevitably I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the title itself to give the logo a more enthusiastic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my concept and named the frog Jax and featured him in to everything they used for promotion and marketing. I also think this is the only time that a logo I created was turned into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fabricated to look exactly like my frog design.

digital photography logo design featuring a group of birds, a hill, a route, a stream, as well as a tree - created for Elk River traveling digital photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a fairly specialized field of photography and I believe it is a niche field because travel photographers don’t capture places or things but instead reveal emotional experiences through the photos they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to communicate more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is representative of most good photographers in that they oftentimes share entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos frequently have an emotional fullness that can’t be conveyed with just words. I tried to do something very similar to this logo design by utilizing the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Elk River logo but also to reveal the depth of her work and in the way that she views the world through the lens of her camera.

Elk River logo design with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a wireless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The majority of custom logo design jobs that I take on I truly take pleasure in and the Coastal Wireless project was one that I certainly felt good about, but the customer didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A but my customer, even though he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This particular man truly disliked seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, fortunately the rest of his family members did not share his aversion for this particular variety of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I encourage all of them to talk about it with friends and family members as well as with folks that they don’t even know so as to get impartial judgements on the benefit of a concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family and they really liked the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logos are a weird creature in the design world given that the people that have a tendency to hire a professional to design their business logo realize how important a logo design is for their business so they are way more invested in the end result. Every logo project possesses it’s portion of hurdles, however the biggest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the task it’s required to do in branding a business and also giving the customer the image they see for themselves.

a red panda logo style with bamboo in the background, layout for Elk River publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender slice of real estate to work with, but it is the most essential part of a published book due to the fact that it is in most cases the primary thing a person sees in the book store. Regarding a publishing company, it’s the opportunity that they will likely ever get to publicize their brand and get their logo design in front of the people that purchase actual books.

This 3 color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it leaves plenty of space for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo created for an airline company in Los Angeles, the logo design has 2 letter A's with the bars modified to suggest they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart nevertheless it seems like that in many cases 1 of the aspects consumers usually tend to recollect the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a young startup commuter/shuttle airline company situated in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their brand lent itself well to imparting a spirit of air travel and it was definitely a success.

Elk River logo design made use of for marketing and a label layout for Vintage Situation features an archaic font style.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case specialized in new cases for musical instruments, which looked to be much older cases. For this custom logo concept I sought to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid old style feel to it and could be utilized for every thing from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from another generation.

Logo produced for an orthodontist in Elk River, design consist of an arc with lines converging with it to suggest steel dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental care business logos can easily be one of the most difficult logo jobs due to the fact that it appears that every single dentist features a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dental business logos are one of the most cliche ridden fields when it comes to company branding, if restaurants approached their advertising in the same way dental practitioners do every one of their logos would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would most likely have a picture of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating an illustration of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dental professionals logo that litter the branding landscape of the dentistry industry.

I actually love doing dental care logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies the field of dentistry or a particular field of the field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd course of action that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and eventually I created a design that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t obvious, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this design over to the client the only smile that was obvious was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo designed for a household not-for-profit, the logo design includes 4 personalities surprised in height to represent a family with in the design.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be illustrative of the devotion that William McNally had for the folks in his city. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain portrayals of a happy family, a cliche heavy technique to any logo design is to be very literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve found that the best concepts are the ones that are understated and never hit the viewer on the head with what the business or institution wants to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name offered a unique opportunity to do a logo that communicated that they were about families without being overtly corny about it. The objective of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer makes an effort to use the logo to summarize exactly how people should think or feel they don’t understand the mission of a logo. If viewers have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has failed, a logo needs to be instantly understood and a logo design that explains itself will never have the chance to be comprehended.

Logo style developed for a Elk River hair style studio featuring a script font a hummingbird and also a suggested orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios desired a logo design which projected an atmosphere of peace and elegance for their new hair salon. I created a concept that didn’t go the obvious path of creating simply a stylized orchid but alternatively delivered a company logo that implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl featured into the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the concept using the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering above the logo design itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is more often than not the incorrect course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but instead placed the attention on the perception that they wanted to project to their clients.

Arabian steed logo style created for a horse cattle ranch that specializes in breeding Arabian show horses.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed a one-of-a-kind business logo design tailored to epitomize the unique physical traits of the Arabian kind of equines. With an unique head form and high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the highly easily identifiable equine breeds in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Elk River Coffee shop logo layout a little restaurant, style contains a changed manuscript typeface which hovers above a group of ornate lines and dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo design a tiny dining establishment, design consists of a changed script font which hovers above a team of luxuriant lines and dots.

Logo layout for a software program designer the design functions and also famous Elk River element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the principal part of an operating system (OS). Generally, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task control, and hard drive managing. The kernel attaches the computer hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a connection in between the software program and computer hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a couple of miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone regarding what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it intimated something to the owner of the business and in many cases the significance behind a logo design is just as important as how it serves the enterprise it stands for.

Evolve logo design created for a Elk Riverindoor designer, layout feature a series of red circles that converge and replace the letter O in the center of the logo style.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Elk River interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is somebody who prepares, investigates, coordinates, and manages such tasks. Interior design is a multifaceted occupation that involves conceptual development, area planning, location inspections, programming, research, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction supervision, and implementation of the design.

logo design done for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Elk River, the personalities for letter V as well as A in center of the word progressed have actually been customized to tie straight right into words below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Elk River logo design job was performed for a management consultant that enables business professionals to develop into more effective at handling people, expectations, and productivity.

A Elk River business logo style including an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly towards the customer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brand names like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year retailing goods and equipment to outdoor sporting enthusiasts the owners of On the Fly knew the market place was prepared for an outdoor sporting retailer that operates as a consignment company. Whether you are into boating, fishing or mountain climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a place for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all kinds of interests, a spot to sell their previously owned goods to other sports enthusiasts.

I tailored their Elk River logo design design with a graphic that garners the interest of vehicles and projects an image that evokes the passion of the outdoors. With traffic that averages forty five miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and peaceful habitat.

Logo design MQ ranches, this Elk River company logo style has an area included right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo idea wasn’t really composed for an Elk River regional farm it was really designed for a products broker, and this particular creative logo was one of a handful of which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The end goal was to create a graphic that projects confidence, effectiveness, and luxury.

Elk River Logo design for a not-for-profit, Transforming Factor Solutions - the logo layout attribute for externally dealing with arrowhead and the arrowheads suggest that it is a diamond shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was entirely open to what type of logo design they wanted, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it gives a designer the liberty to delve into any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye without realizing where exactly the target is. Fortunately, in this case, I hit a bullseye with the very first try.

Logo developed for using an indication for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate manuscript font that is evocative a famous Elk River sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have designed dozens of restaurant logo designs and business signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the United States, from cupcake bakeries to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a cool project where I worked closely with the proprietor to design a logo which worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it worked on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon sign which hung above their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
