POINTERS ON IDENTIFYING THE BEST LOGO DESIGNER

BUDGET

A logo is an investment in both your time and your money so when a design agency presents a money back guarantee try to bear in mind that they can not refund the time you invest which is eminently more precious than your money is.

PORTFOLIO

Many designers talk a good game but ultimately a design firm can only be determined by the quality of their design work, if the work in their design portfolio doesn’t feature real life examples odds are they will not be able to produce a premium logo design.

VISION

A logo’s goal is to be recognized and remembered, and it’s goal is to reflect your unique vision for your business. If a designer isn’t focused on fulfilling your vision, the thing they are actually focused on is how quickly they can get paid.

Faribault LOGO DESIGN

For over two decades ImageCo has been helping business owners develop memorable brand identities. We’ve performed brand design work for mechanics, schools, diamond miners, wedding singers, coffee roasters, retail stores, and just about every other kind of business you can envision. What makes us unique compared to traditional designers is that our background is rooted in the electrical sign industry so we undertake every logo design project as if it will be utilized as an electric sign. Because of our sign first approach our identity designs can, and have been used in everything from fashion labels to neon signs. Our sign first approach guarantees that our logo designs are equally effective whether they are used in television commercials or website applications, they are consistently identifiable, comprehended, and remembered regardless of scale or function.

American Made ★ Design

Something which truly sets ImageCo apart from many of the design agencies that you probably have stumbled upon online, companies like Thumbtack, Design Hill, Upwork, or Crowdspring is that absolutely every project we are contracted to perform, we do in-house. No matter the type of project we undertake, brand identity design, business website, trade show booth, or retail sign, we do not, and never will contract out our client’s work to contractors based outside the US. When you contact us at 1-855-IMAGECO the person that answers the telephone is ImageCo’s owner and designer, not a go-between that increases the cost of your project and imposes the conditions of how my customers and I do business.

QUALITIES OF A GREAT LOGO DESIGN

Nearly every new Faribault business knows they probably need a logo, but few start ups thoroughly comprehend the crucial role their organization’s logo can make in their becoming successful, or exactly why one business logo works more effectively than another. A logo has an immediate and long-term influence on the success of a company, choose the correct one and it will make the door swing and cash register ring, go with the incorrect one and it can be a barrier and an impediment for the longevity of a company. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Faribault companies succeed, they are effective in any given scenario and the main reason they are so effective is because they all have these five things in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logo designs don’t require scrutiny, they can be understood in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from clothing labels to billboards a scalable logo will stay legible and equally emotive at every dimension.
  3. Versatility: logos which operate on any type of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they feel right, and they are suitable for the product or company they represent.
  5. Relevance: a company logo should be ageless and should feel equally relevant today, tomorrow, and 20 years from now.

understand your brand

Brand – It is both a verb and also a noun, it is an identifying mark as well as the process of marking something to make sure that it could be distinguished, its genesis comes from the mark branded onto livestock. These days a brand signifies basically anything with a motive, regardless if it be profit or political parties, a brand is an inherent aspect of defining the worth of a specific thing in the customer’s mind.

Branding – Is kind of like marketing and advertising’s attractive sister, they are each from the exact same family, the difference being that marketing and advertising are about making a promise and branding’s objective is to deliver on that promise. Branding is also a calculated popularity competition targeted at a specific audience, it’s objective is to produce an image that the target market will likely connect to.

Brand Image – An image planted and nurtured through advertising and marketing and also identity design. When someone mentions the names Lamborghini or Corvette what we consider is their brand image, it’s a picture that exists in our minds. That image isn’t an image of a vehicle with 4 wheels that can move us from point A to point B, the image we have (or at least I have) is of freedom, elegance, of something dangerous and unique . That is brand image and that is what makes people purchase those brands. Brand image is why people get specific brands, from Nike to Adidas Chevy or Ford, Democrats or Republicans … all driven by brand images that people can relate to.

Branding Firms – If you reflect on the origin of many branding firms you’ll discover that they are often rebranded advertising agencies. When somebody says they are in advertising and marketing most people will likely have an idea about what they do. However when somebody states “I am in branding”… it just sounds much more impressive, perhaps it’s since most individuals do not understand what it implies to be in branding so it comes off as more mysterious and perhaps even sexy.

Brand Identity – Is a comprehensive term that explains the visual elements of a product or company that influence perceptions. This primarily consists of the name, the logo, the product packaging, the colors used however can likewise include audio, lighting, texture, signs, really anything that can be seen, felt or listened to become part of a brand identity.

Brand Identity Designers
– A brand identity designer is a graphic designer that specializes in a type of visual design that helps form the perception of a firm, a product or an institution. Brand identity designers produce logo designs, sign designs, product packaging, and also collateral products such as business cards, stationery, as well as sales brochures. Some identity designers also build websites as well as software interfaces. The crucial function of a brand identity designer is to develop the visual cues and also an emotional tone with the objective of influencing activities, end results and understandings.

select signs/logos

Retro logo layout of a bike produced for a Faribault coffee cafe as well as a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This budding coffee roaster and cafe were launching in an old section of town and hoped to visualize a nostalgic feel without coming across as boring or low energy. I achieved both jobs via creating a logo design that includes a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is antiquated, high energy, and is a classic business image.

clinical logo style with a microscopic lense slide and bacteria made for Faribault medical clinic.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the scientific discipline that investigates the root causes and consequences of diseases, especially the branch of medicine that works with the clinical evaluation of samplings of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is really the only instance I remember in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide within a logo design.

Normally I try not to be extremely literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it serves fairly literally, yet it does it in a way that integrates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an illustration of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the name that helps make it more intriguing, more attention grabbing and more unforgettable.

logo layout with a jumping environment-friendly frog created for a household fun center in Faribault.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a very cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s also a project that is way out of the norm of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve done dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental practices, and legal professionals but Cool Springz is without question the one and only trampoline park which I have actually ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the full name of the company has the word springz in its name the clear choice would have been to feature a couple springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun location to go and spring does not actually resonate an environment of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, eventually I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a more enthusiastic high energy atmosphere.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and integrated him in to everything they utilized for marketing. I also believe this is the only time that a logo I did was turned into a mascot when they had an employee costume fabricated to look just like my frog design.

digital photography logo design including a group of birds, a mountain, a path, a stream, as well as a tree - designed for Faribault travel photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo design job I took on for a travel photographer, which is a rather niche field of photography and I think it is a niche field because travel photographers tend not to shoot locations or things but instead project emotional journeys through the photos they record. The idea behind this logo composition was to make use of negative space to project more than what was visible upon initial view, which I think is quintessential of almost all good photographers in that they frequently share whole stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a 1000 words but I think that some photographs convey much more than that because their photos often have an emotional resonance which can’t be communicated with mere words. I tried to do something comparable to this logo by using the positive space in the design to suggest one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was communicated through the first impression. I think, in hindsight, that my goal was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Faribault logo design but also to illustrate the depth of her work and in the way that she sees the world through the lens of her camera.

Faribault logo design with a seagull made use of for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The bulk of logo design projects that I take on I honestly savor and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I certainly felt good about, however the client didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the letter A but the customer, while he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This guy really hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, thankfully the rest of his family did not share his scorn for this particular kind of sea bird.

When I turn a concept over to a customer I urge all of them to discuss it with colleagues and family members as well as with other people that they don’t even know so as to get objective assessments on the merit of a design. Fortunately, he discussed it with his whole family and they loved the concept and were able to reason with him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to insert every other seabird he could think of … ultimately I was able to talk him out of his choice of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Custom logo designs are a weird animal in the design world given that the people that tend to hire an expert to create their logo realize how important a logo is for their business so they are way more invested in the result. Every logo project possesses it’s share of hurdles, but the most significant obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a business and also providing the customer the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, layout for Faribault publication author

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a thin piece of real estate to work with, nevertheless it really is the most necessary part of a published book since it is ordinarily the very first thing a person views in the book store. With regard to a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity that they will ever get to spotlight their brand and get their logo design in front of the people that buy actual books.

This three color design is vivid, picturesque and eye-catching and it gives plenty of area for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has two letter A's with benches customized to indicate they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines arrive and depart nevertheless it seems like that in many cases one of the items individuals often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest start-up commuter/shuttle airline company located in LA and while I’m not certain it really “took off” their business logo didn’t slow them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to affording a spirit of air travel and it was undoubtedly a success.

Faribault logo layout used for marketing and a label style for Vintage Situation includes an archaic typeface layout.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in new cases for musical instruments, which looked to be vintage cases. For this brand concept I attempted to come up with a logo that possessed a fluid vintage feel to it and could be used for everything from a web page to an insignia on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different point in time.

Logo design created for an orthodontist in Faribault, style consist of an arc with lines intersecting with it to suggest metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dentistry logos can be one of the most challenging logo design projects because it appears that virtually every dentist involves a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the very most cliche ridden professions when it comes to company advertising, if restaurants approached their advertising in the exact same way dental practitioners do every one of their logos would definitely be a picture explaining something they served, McDonalds would likely contain an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating an image of something mouth related to a dentist’s logo nevertheless it has to be performed subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental profession.

I really love doing dentistry logos simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a particular area of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd approach that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics offered such an opportunity and ultimately I created a concept that doesn’t have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still suggested in the concept. When I turned this particular concept over to the client the only smile that was apparent was actually the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo created for a household not-for-profit, the logo design features 4 personalities surprised in elevation to stand for a family with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation reached out to ImageCo to help them come up with a brand identity design that would be depictive of the love that William McNally had for the folks in his community. Most logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain pictures of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be overly literal with regards to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are understated and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization hopes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name presented a distinct opportunity to do a logo design which conveyed that they were about families without being openly corny about it. The intention of a logo is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer tries to use the logo design to illustrate how people should think or feel they don’t understand the purpose of a logo. If viewers have to think about a logo design to understand what it means, it has been in vain, a logo needs to be immediately understood and a logo design that describes itself won’t have the opportunity to be comprehended.

Logo style created for a Faribault hair design workshop including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an indicated orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios required a business logo which conveyed a sense of serenity and elegance for their new hair salon. I came up with a concept that did not go the obvious route of making just a stylized orchid but rather created a logo design that implied a flower in the pattern of a swirl blended in to the letter O in the title and by putting emphasis on the concept with the silhouette of a hummingbird floating over the logo itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is usually the wrong path and in this case, the design ended up not being about the flower but instead put the focus on the emotion that they wanted to project to their patrons.

Arabian steed logo style created for an equine ranch that concentrates on reproducing Arabian program equines.

Dazzo Arabians | Logo Design

ImageCo designed a unique company logo design fashioned to exemplify the unique physical traits of the Arabian type of equines. With a different head shape and very high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most easily identifiable horse lineages in the entire world.

Las Cafe, A Faribault restaurant logo layout a little dining establishment, design includes a customized script font style which floats above a group of luxuriant lines as well as dots.

Las Cafe | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

Las Coffee shop logo layout a small restaurant, style consists of a changed script typeface which floats over a group of luxuriant lines as well as dots.

Logo design for a software application programmer the layout attributes as well as iconic Faribault element of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and hard drive managing. The kernel unites the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that behaves as a bridge between the software program and computer hardware.

The business logo I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a number of miles from the offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to spell out anything to anyone about what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it symbolized something to the business owner of the company and in quite a few cases the meaning behind a logo is just as important as how it serves the business it stands for.

Evolve logo style produced for a Faribaultinterior designer, layout function a series of red circles that converge as well as change the letter O in the middle of the logo design.

Evolv Interior Design | Logo Design | Branding

Evolv Design is a Faribault interior design company and this logo design is representational of the work that an interior designer does in. An interior designer is an individual who organizes, explores, collaborates, and oversees such ventures. Interior design is a diverse profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, site examinations, programming, research study, interacting with the stakeholders of a project, building and construction management, and execution of the design.

logo layout provided for Advanced Leadership Solutions in Faribault, the personalities for letter V as well as A in center of the word advanced have actually been changed to link straight right into words listed below.

Advanced Leadership Solutions | Logo Design | Website Design

This particular Faribault logo design assignment was done for a leadership expert that enables business professionals to become more successful at handling people, expectations, and productivity.

A Faribault business logo style including an angler in the center of the name casting a fly towards the viewer.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands like Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in more than 7 billion a year selling goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the founders of On the Fly recognized the market place was ready for an outdoor sporting merchant that operates as a consignment firm. Whether or not you are into boating, sportfishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly presents a location for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a place to sell their secondhand items to other sports enthusiasts.

I created their Faribault logo design design along with an illustration which garners the interest of vehicles and projects an image that wakens the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the typical logo/sign to get travelers to take notice, hence the graphic of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.

Logo style MQ ranches, this Faribault company logo layout has a field included into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms company logo idea wasn’t really designed for an Faribault regional farm it was really devised for a products broker, and this business logo was one of multiple which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to create a brand mark that projects trust, financial success, and affluence.

Faribault Logo design for a not-for-profit, Turning Point Solutions - the logo design attribute for externally dealing with arrow and also the arrowheads imply that it is a ruby shape.

Turning Point Foundation | Logo Design

The Turning Point Foundation was totally open to what type of logo design that they wanted, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that it offers a designer the flexibility to discover any idea that comes to mind, bad in that it’s difficult to hit a bullseye without knowing where the target is. Fortunately, in this instance, I struck a bullseye with the 1st shot.

Logo developed for making use of a sign for the dining establishment (Brewgrrs), it is an elaborate script font that is evocative a renowned Faribault sports team logo.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I have created loads of restaurant logo designs and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments, and eateries all over the USA, from cupcake bakeshops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project in which I worked directly with the proprietor to develop a logo design which worked extremely well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the neon signage which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very easy to read from over a block away.
