Red Wing Logo Design

Every new Red Wing business knows they require a logo, yet few new business owners fully realize the key role their logo will make in their financial success, or the reason that one business logo functions more effectively than another. A logo design has an instant and sustaining impact on the growth of a company, select the right one and it will make the door swing and phone ring, select the incorrect one and it can be an obstacle and a hindrance for the life of a business. The logos featured in the ImageCo portfolio help Red Wing businesses prosper, they are effective in any given circumstance and the reason they are so effective is that they all have these 5 traits in common.
  1. Simplicity: simple logos don’t require consideration, they can be realized in just a look.
  2. Scalability: from business cards to signboards a scalable logo will continue to be legible and just as emotive at virtually any size.
  3. Versatility: logos that work on any sort of device, in print, on packaging, on a mobile phone, or on a ball-cap.
  4. Suitability: they are appropriate, they are unique, and they are suitable for the company they stand for.
  5. Relevance: a business logo needs to be enduring and should feel relevant today, tomorrow, and thirty years from now.

Retro logo layout of a bike produced for a Red Wing coffee cafe and a coffee roaster.

Ferry Street Coffee Company | Logo Design | Retail Branding

This startup coffee roaster and bistro were actually opening up in an older section of the city and hoped to project a vintage feel without coming across as stodgy or low energy. I achieved both of these tasks via developing a logo concept that uses a man on a high wheel bicycle (aka The Penny Farthing), it is old-fashioned, high energy, and is a ageless business image.

medical logo layout with a microscope slide as well as bacteria developed for Red Wing clinical center.

Mid-Valley Pathology | Logo Design

Pathology is the science that researches the triggers and outcomes of diseases, mainly the branch of healthcare which works with the clinical evaluation of samples of human body tissue for diagnostic or forensic reasons.

The Mid-Valley Pathology logo I came up with is the only instance I recollect in which I was able to integrate a bacteria-laden microscope slide into a logo design.

Typically I attempt not to be excessively literal with a concept and to a point, this specific design approaches the company it represents very literally, but it does it in a fashion that incorporates the slide as part of the name so it doesn’t serve so much as an explanation of what Mid-Valley Pathology does so much as acts as an enhancer to the brand that helps make it more captivating, more focus grabbing and much more meaningful.

logo layout with a jumping environment-friendly frog developed for a family fun center in Red Wing.

Cool Springz | Logo Design | Retail Branding

The Cool Springz Trampoline Park was a really cool project to work on, probably because a trampoline park is all about fun. It’s additionally a project that is way out of the usual of the sorts of projects that come my way, I’ve produced dozens of logo designs for medical professionals, dental professionals, and lawyers but Cool Springz is without question the only trampoline park that I have actually ever had the opportunity to work on.

Given that the name of the business features the word springz in its name the obvious choice would have been to feature a couple of springs into the design but Cool Springz is a fun destination to go and spring does not really resonate an atmosphere of fun does it. My thought process on this logo project went from springs (boring) to what jumps around, kangaroos … but kangaroos are cute and this place is cool, ultimately I landed on a green tree frog and a dimensional treatment of the name itself to provide the logo a better lively high energy impression.

In the end, Cool Springz ended up loving my design and named the frog Jax and incorporated him in to everything they utilized for advertising. I also think this is the only time that a logo I did was transformed into a mascot when they had a staff member costume fashioned to look just like my frog design.

photography logo design featuring a flock of birds, a mountain, a route, a stream, and also a tree - created for Red Wing traveling professional photographer.

Travel Don’t Wander | Logo Design | Website Design

Travel Don’t Wander was a logo project I took on for a travel photographer, which is a pretty specialized field of photography and I think it is a niche profession due to the fact that travel photographers don’t capture locations or things but rather communicate emotional experiences through the photos they record. The thought behind this logo composition was to utilize negative space to convey more than what was visible upon first view, which I think is quintessential of the majority of good photographers in that they often share entire stories through their photography.

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but I think that some photographs convey considerably more than that because their photos often have an emotional fullness which can’t be conveyed with mere words. I made an effort to do something similar to this logo by employing the positive space in the design to voice one thing and then at the same time using the negative space to expand upon what was conveyed through the first impression. I think, in looking back, that my objective was to both brand this photographer with a memorable  Red Wing logo but also to illustrate the depth to her art and in the way that she perceives the world through the lens of her camera.

Red Wing logo layout with a seagull utilized for the letter A. Designed for a cordless retail company.

Coastal Wireless | Logo Design

The lion’s share of custom logo design projects that I take on I really savor and the Coastal Wireless assignment was one that I really felt good about, however the customer didn’t quite share my excitement for it. I felt really good about the idea of using the seagull form as a stroke in the character A however my client, while he liked the concept, didn’t care for my choice of birds. This man truly hated seagulls, which he referred to as the “rats of the sky”, luckily the rest of his family did not share his hatred for this specific type of sea bird.

When I turn a design over to a customer I encourage them to discuss it with friends and colleagues and family as well as with other people that they don’t even know so as to get unbiased assessments on the merit of a design concept. Fortunately, he talked about it with his family and they really loved the concept and were able to persuade him and get him to sign off on it, but not before he worked me over to include every other seabird he could think of … eventually I was able to talk him out of his alternative of a pelican and he proceeded with the original concept.

Logo designs are a weird animal in the design world because the people that tend to hire an expert to create their business logo understand how crucial a logo design is for their business so they are much more vested in the outcome. Every logo design job possesses it’s portion of difficulties, but the greatest obstacle is identifying that sweet spot in a design that works really well at the job it’s needed to do in branding a company and also giving the client the identity they see for themselves.

a red panda logo design with bamboo behind-the-scenes, style for Red Wing book publisher

Red Panda Publishers | Logo Design

The book spine is a slender slice of real estate to work with, nevertheless it really is the most critical part of a printed book because it is often the very first thing a person sees in the bookstore. Concerning a publishing company, it’s the best opportunity that they will likely ever have to spotlight their label and get their logo design in front of the people that shop for actual books.

This three color design is vivid, colorful and eye-catching and it gives plenty of territory for the title and the author’s name.

Air LA logo design created for an airline in Los Angeles, the logo has 2 letter A's with benches modified to imply they are wings.

Air LA | Logo Design

Airlines come and depart but it looks like that in many cases one of the traits people often tend to recall the most are their logos. The Air LA logo design was done for a modest startup commuter/shuttle air service based in LA and although I’m not sure it really “took off” their business logo didn’t ground them. The bookend A’s in their title lent itself well to imparting a good sense of airline flight and it was surely a winner.

Red Wing logo style used for advertising and marketing and also a tag layout for Vintage Situation includes an old font design.

Vintage Case | Logo Design

Vintage case focused in new cases for music instruments, which appeared to be much older cases. For this business logo concept I sought to come up with a logo that provided a fluid vintage feel to it and could easily be utilized for every thing from a website to a label on brand new cases that appeared like they were from a different point in time.

Logo created for an orthodontist in Red Wing, layout consist of an arc with lines intersecting via it to suggest metal dental braces.

Kujak Orthodontics | Logo Design | Sign Design

Dental logo designs can easily be one of the most challenging logo projects due to the fact that it seems that each and every dental professional incorporates a smile, a tooth, a smiling tooth, or a toothy smile in their design. Dentistry logo designs are one of the most cliche ridden careers when it comes to small business branding, if restaurants approached their advertising in the same way dental practitioners do every one of their company logos would be a picture trying to explain something they served, McDonalds would probably include an image of a potato and a cow.

I recognize the thinking behind incorporating a likeness of something mouth associated to a dentist’s logo but it has to be done subtly or it will just look like every other clipart dentists logo that litter the branding landscape of the dental care industry.

I actually love doing dentistry logo designs simply because it challenges me to come up with a design that implies dentistry or a certain field of dentistry like orthodontics without resorting to the clichéd solution that so many dentists settle on.

Kujak Orthodontics provided such an opportunity and subsequently I created a concept that does not have a solitary smile or a tooth in it, but even though they aren’t overt, they are still implied in the design. When I turned this particular design over to the customer the only smile that was apparent was really the smile on Dr. Kujak’s face.

William McNally logo made for a household not-for-profit, the logo includes 4 personalities surprised in height to represent a family unit with in the layout.

William McNally | Logo Design | Branding

The William McNally Family Foundation asked ImageCo to help them come up with a custom logo design that would be representative of the devotion that William McNally had for the people in his community. Many logos with the name “family” in them tend to contain depictions of a happy family, a cliche heavy method to any logo design is to be far too literal pertaining to what the name says or the industry it represents. I’ve discovered that the best designs are the ones that are downplayed and don’t hit the viewer on the head with what the business or organization hopes to relate.

The McNally Foundation’s name provided a unique opportunity to do a logo that conveyed that they were about families without being overtly cheesy about it. The intention of a logo design is to be remembered and recognized and if the designer attempts to use the logo design to describe specifically how people ought to think or feel they don’t understand the goal of a logo. If people have to consider a logo to understand what it means, it has fallen short, a logo needs to be instantly comprehended and a logo design that explains itself will never have the opportunity to be understood.

Logo design created for a hair design studio including a manuscript font a hummingbird and also an implied orchid for the letter O.

Wild Orchid Studio | Logo Design Project

Wild Orchid Studios needed a logo which conveyed a sense of tranquility and elegance for their new hair studio. I came up with a concept that did not go the obvious direction of designing simply a stylized orchid but instead crafted a company logo which suggested an orchid in the pattern of a swirl featured in to the letter O in the name and by putting attention on the logo design along with the silhouette of a hummingbird hovering above the image itself. The obvious path in creating a logo design is in most cases the incorrect course and in this case, the design ended up not being about the orchid but alternately put the attention on the emotion that they really wanted to forecast to their customers.

Logo design for a software application designer the design attributes and also legendary aspect of a bridge to the left of the name.

Smart Kernels | Logo Design

A kernel is the central part of an operating system (OS). Typically, the kernel is responsible for memory administration, process and task management, and hard drive operations. The kernel attaches the system hardware to the application software. In other words a kernel is {essentially|quite literally a bridge that acts as a connection between the software and hardware.

The logo design I came up with for Smart Kernels was based on an actual bridge that is located a few miles from the business offices of Smart kernels. It’s a logo design that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to anyone pertaining to what business they are in or how it relates to their specific location. However, it represented something to the business owner of the company and in many cases the substance behind a business logo is equally as important as how it brands the organization it represents.

A logo design including an angler in the middle of the name casting a fly in the direction of the audience.

On The Fly | Logo Design | Retail Branding

With brands such as Cabelas and Bass Pros raking in over 7 billion a year offering goods and equipment to outdoor sporting fans the owners of On the Fly knew the market was ready for an outdoor sporting retailer that functions as a consignment firm. Whether you are into boating, fishing or rock climbing, or even hunting, On the Fly provides a venue for outdoor sports enthusiasts with all sorts of interests, a place to sell off their pre-owned products to other sports enthusiasts. I created their Red Wing logo dsign using an illustration which captures the interest of vehicles and sends an image that wakens the enthusiasm of the outdoors. With visitor traffic that averages 45 miles per hour I realized it would take more than the average logo/sign to get commuters to take notice, hence the image of a fly fisherman in his natural and tranquil habitat.
Logo layout MQ ranches, this logo design has a field incorporated right into the letter Q.

MQ Farms | Logo Design | Branding

The MQ farms custom logo design wasn’t actually created for an Red Wing regional farm it was in reality devised for a commodities broker, and this brand was one of multiple which fell underneath the MQ umbrella … MQ commodities was one, MQ trading was another. The goal was to develop a graphic that projects assurance, financial success, and luxury.
Logo designed for using an indicator for the restaurant (Brewgrrs), it is an ornate script font style that is reminiscent of a famous sporting activities group logo design.

Brewgrrs Restaurant | Logo Design | Restaurant Branding

I’ve created loads of restaurant business logos and establishment signs for restaurants, diners, sports bars, night clubs, dining establishments|eateries} all over the US, from cupcake pastry shops to pizza parlors and oyster bars, out of all of them I believe Brewgrrs was my absolute favorite. Brewgrrs was a neat project where I worked closely with the business owner to create a logo that worked really well and did a great job to brand them, it functioned on everything on everything from coasters, and tap handles all the way to the illuminated sign which hung over their doors, and was highly visible and very legible from over a block away.
